The great Norman Watt- Roy on bass is still going strong, one of the best bass players of all time.

Best so-called backing band ever in my opinion , even better when Wilko joins them . But what a bass player , the best ? Probably one of the very best along with Fernando Saunders

Peter, I caught them early 80's in Wellington New Zealand and they were just unbelievable, after I was lucky to join him at the function and asked his opinion of our crowd. That is the best crowd we have had since...i cant remember where he said but it wasnt a small place like here,I explained to him that they just BLEW US AWAY. Since then it still remains my favourite concert of all time although The Pretenders were hot when they were still intact with original members, of whom I was lucky enough to meet Pete Farndon the Bass player, before he died,I tried telling him to not use the whole Cap at once when it was new gear in a new city,he was okay at that time but i was concerned at his strategy to do with this, didnt seem to realise it was not a game, and to hide it from mum, RIP Pete Farndon, lovely bloke from what i saw when we spent 5 hours together, such a pity. That's Fame for some folks.

no doubt, shame they were mostly underground and under the radar for so many years with the exception of Chaz Jankel who got the attention of Quincy Jones & also Motown, When they first came out they were mislabeled, New Wave, Punk, Sex Drugs & rock & roll, the breakout track almost didn't make New Boots & Panties LP, In the states top 40 stations wouldn't play it, only cutting edged progressive rock stations like WMMS cleveland "buzzard" would play their stuff. I always considered them a British funk rock jazz fusion, but even hesitate to use that even though these guys are funky as heck, laid back and can groove

Norman Watt Roy is a MONSTER, he also played on The Clash "The Magnificent seven" and on all the Franky Goes to Hollywood hits. Producer Trevor horn who is a bad ass bass player in his own right, made sure that he got the best.

Gallaghers keyboard solo is lit! Had to view again! This band is so incredible, Even how they followed Durry when he missed his cue, apparent off night but just sayin' how they flexed with it, a mark of true professionalism, pity they were so much under the radar. Band was in exceptionally rare form here!

I vividly remember a kid at school being dragged out in front of the class in 77 by a straight laced Christian 40 year old virgin type of teacher. Then asked to sing what he was humming under his breath. So out it came "SEX AND DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL!" We all rolled on the floor laughing so hard. Classic!!!!!

I had the privilege of working with and introducing Ian's fantastic Blockheads a few years ago. I was always a drummer and, as such listened to Bassists in every band. There have been many Bass Stars but Norman Watt-Roy is the best of the best as far as drummists are concerned....you can relax because the Bass is driving the band and all you have to do is have a ball! The bassist definitely believed in the drugs part. Pretty sure you could freebase the sweat from his greasy hair. He is so eager to scream backup vocals and the singer just has a look like "ugh get outta here."
