My Mother is the woman playing Sid's Mum in the audience in this video. She was made bed-bound 5 years ago and its been my pleasure to be her carer through that time. She passed away back on the 11th of this month (11/12/2022). I will miss her a lot.

My condolences! My father passed a few years ago and we feel his absence daily, so I thought I'd extend my sympathies to you and your family. It's cool that your mother got to take part in something so culturally significant! My mother would probably be a tad jealous, she is a sex pistols fan and laments the fact that she was born too late to ever be able to see them in concert (not that they would've ever come to our tiny country).

I'm sorry to hear that your mom passed. It's very cool that she took part in this. She must have been a cool mom. I love exposing my kids to punk, I find the humor in it makes us all laugh and takes some of the seriousness out of parenting. Sending healing thoughts to you and yours. I hope you all are well in spite of your loss.

Sorry the original song is French, "comme d'habitude" lyrics by Claude François and music by Jacques Revaux. The heirs are cashing in the copyrights by millions ! Sid Vicious did the best cover and video clip, "killing" the audience at the Olympia, Paris, at the end, so funny !

This is unironically the best version of this song. It really, truly is. Sid doesn't just sing it, he performs it. He inhabits it. He IS the song. He brings so much passion and honesty to it. This man really could have been something special had he not gone out the way he did.

+redospure Quite a few similarities there actually (see my comment above about how they are both often mistaken for the actors who expertly played them in 80's movies). Altho I have enjoyed both of their music and stage presence, I have to agree - Morrison might not have been the best singer of his era (still better than 99% of the horseshit being sold today tho) but in addition to his amazing stage presence he was definitely one hell of a poet/lyricist.
@negativeindustrial

+A. Nonny Mouse It was Sid too. I've read a few accounts of people in and associated with the band reporting this. To be fair tho he learned to play specifically so he could be in the band and had only been playing somewhere around a month before they hit the road on his first tour with the band. Apparently he learned pretty quick to play well enough that a short time later, just before they broke up, he was actually playing on the road. Also, it's not like anyone in that band was a gifted musician - Punk Rock in general, especially the first wave in the '70's, was characterized by pretty shitty musicianship.

@PazuzuStalker I partied with Sid Viscious one night at an abandoned club on Hollywood Blvd called the Masque. Us punk rockers used to hang out there do drugs, drink, have sex, etc. I'm not sure how he found his way there but we partied all night! I had great connections back in the day when coke wasn't stepped all over and I drove to a liquor store and got us a case of beer. We snorted coke all night, drank, talked, laughed, etc. He was a degenerate junkie and broke as a joke so I comped him all night. We did an ounce, I should asked him to sing My Way while I was laying out those lines!!! He was a real character!

LEONARD COHEN ABOUT SID VICIOUS: "I never liked this song [“My Way”] except when Sid Vicious did it. Sung straight, it somehow deprives the appetite of a certain taste we’d like to have on our lips. When Sid Vicious did it, he provided that other side to the song; the certainty, the self- congratulation, the daily heroism of Sinatra’s version is completely exploded by this desperate, mad, humorous voice. I can’t go round in a raincoat and fedora looking over my life saying I did it my way - well, for 10 minutes in some American bar over a gin and tonic you might be able to get away with it. But Sid Vicious’s rendition takes in everybody; everybody is messed up like that, everybody is the mad hero of his own drama. It explodes the whole culture this self-presentation can take place in, so it completes the song for me."

Yeah it wasn't a joke. Heres a story from his flatmate. "One night I went round and saw Sid, and there was a cat that was in the flat. And for no reason he decided to put a noose around the cat and hang it up in front of me... ...it didn't last long as far as ticks on the clock but it seemed like an eternity. The cat was struggling and was trying to get away but obviously it couldn't. It was whining. It was absolutely fighting to get away and just before it passed away, it urinated and defacated right on his feet. Sid was holding it in front of me. I utterly regret not stopping him doing that. Why he did that, I don't know. I have no idea, it's the most disgusting thing that I have seen in my life. If I could have my life over again, I would've stopped him from doing it. It was horrible... ...we finally put the cat in a plastic bag and took it to the bin downstairs."

Been clean since 2012 and never want to go back to using, but I can't lie when I say I miss the confidence I had when I used. Stimulants for me never had that affect. Always made me paranoid instead. Actually, there was the top of the pops, the oldest ancestor of Mtv. But the videos they played weren't music videos, i would describe it more as a visualised version of the song. It was called "Promotion Clips" back then and the bands didn't get paid for the network to play their promotion clips. The only benefit of this was that hopefully someone would see your face on tv and go buy your record.

The song "My Way" has a fascinating history, rooted in French pop and reimagined across musical genres. It was originally composed as "Comme d'habitude" in 1967 by Claude François and Jacques Revaux, with François contributing to the lyrics. The French version, performed by Claude François, is a melancholic reflection on a fading relationship. In 1969, Paul Anka discovered the song while on vacation in France and purchased the rights to create an entirely new English version. Anka wrote reflective, deeply personal lyrics inspired by Frank Sinatra’s persona, transforming the song into an anthem of self-determination and dignity. Sinatra’s rendition became iconic and solidified "My Way" as a global classic. However, the song took an entirely different turn in 1978 when Sid Vicious, bassist of the punk band Sex Pistols, recorded his version. Vicious's chaotic, sneering take flipped the song on its head, turning it into a punk rebellion anthem. His cover was deliberately raw and irreverent, embodying the ethos of the punk movement. Paul Anka, while acknowledging the universality of the song, found Vicious's version both amusing and crass. He reportedly saw it as a "crass" interpretation but admitted it was a testament to the song's adaptability. This contrast between Vicious’s anarchic rendition and Sinatra’s dignified version highlights the incredible versatility of "My Way"-a song originally born as a French ballad but which has become a canvas for wildly different artistic expressions.

J'ai adoré,quand j'avais 15 ans, 4 ans après leur album ' Sid Vicious était déjà mort quand je les ai découvert C' était le côté rebel dans le début 80". Grâce à eux, plein de groupes mythiques ont émergés !

He took the message of "My Way" and warped it to suit himself completely, encapsulating what the entire song is all about. Fucking bravo Sid.

Sinatra died almost 20 years after Sid. They were living at the same time but probably very different lifestyles. It’s wonderful how they still managed to communicate through music. Beautiful ♥️
