The original lineup in Sabbath is the best Sabbath. Dio kicked ass as well. ✔

I'm surprised he sold Ritchie Blackmore out. In rock is heavy. Just as good as Sabbath and Zeppelin. Just another jab at Ritchie's riffs. 😂❤🎉

Ian Gillan is such a f*cking legend. He has the cool confidence to give credit where credit is due, because he knows his face is on the mountain. I agree with him 100%. The new Purple record, BTW, has some *kick ass* songs on it. "Bleedin' Obvious" is especially badass. Their new guitarist is a perfect fit, Gillan can still hit the high notes when he has too, and Roger is as solid as ever. And I'm gonna say something controversial here: When it comes to technique, Ian Paice could drum circles around John Bonham OR Bill Ward.

Beside my dad having the animated "Heavy Metal" Soundtrack and me loving the song Mob Rules on that too, the first Black Sabbath record I owned was Born Again. I was aware of Ozzy's legacy at 12 but Born Again has a place for me front to back.

Musically and sonically, DEEP PURPLE is my first choice, as a drummer. I couldn't really enjoy BLACK SABBATH (original line-up) because it sounded to me like demos. Thanx Ozzy for ''Speak Of The Devil''. And I remember, they were also a visual band, which is cool for kids. Neither LED ZEPPELIN or THE WHO could compete with them, because they had no thematic to add to their great music.

All three bands have made phenomenal music. I love all three bands big time, but Black Sabbath is my favorite. Their discography is almost flawless in my opinion. Every era of Black Sabbath is awesome to me, but the original lineup is the best. Those eight albums they did in the 70's are timeless. I agree with you that Born Again is a phenomenal album. Definitely getting the renixed/ remastered boxset when it eventually comes out .

he's spot on. BS brought something new to music. which birthed almost all of the many metal subgenres. the other 2 were a lot more rooted in the past

Born again sounds murky like it was produced in the early 1970's. Which I really like, but the production value does not hold up to Diary of a Madman or The Mob Rules, and other metal albums being released in or around that time that were getting more and more radio friendly and "poppy" by 1983.

I’d say Sabbath is most influential just look at the genres and sub genres that band members say either Sabbath or Iomi influenced them … asa guitarist / musician sabbath and purp have had the biggest tug on me besides kiss then more recently Clutch and nocturnal rites Born again is my favorite album and I’m going so far to say Ian Gillian is my favorite Sabbath singer I guess partially because everyone says it’s their least favorite but its Ian Gillian folks 80% Sabbath 20% Purp lol how can you go wrong …. Thanks … GOD BLESS !!!

Agreed don't mess with perfection, but a box set would be exciting to hear.Gillians vocals are demonic. That was a great tour as well. I was born mid 60s dabbled late 70s and I'm with you Ralph all bets were off and my inner beast was unleashed in the 80s.

When talking the Heavier side of Metal Sabbath undoubtably. Deep Purple are also a big influence, Yngwie once said on That Metal Show that in Europe Deep Purple were twice as big as Zeppelin and Sabbath put together. For all-round popularity I've got to go Zep because they are loved by the classic rock crowd far more than Sabbath and Purple.

Of the three... I agree that Black Sabbath is the most important and influential, as without them, you don't get several categories of metal. I think the most influential band in classic rock history is without doubt... The Who. The Who influenced and were important to the development of Progressive/Thematic Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Pop ( guitar centered pop, that is ), Power Pop, Garage Rock and Punk Rock... I think Heavy Metal began in October 1965 when My Generation was released... You can read so much about how bands like Alice Cooper, MC5, Blue Cheer, Sex Pistols, The Jam, and even the likes of Nils Lofgren and Elton John etc., etc. etc. ... ... cite The Who as a major or the major influence. Im certain that Simmons and Stanley have written about The Who as an influence on doing an outrageous stage show.... Townshend has said that David Bowie came back stage after they played Tommy at The Royal Albert Hall... and said that ' he now knew what he was going to do... or could do... ' and Ziggy Stardust was the result. After The Who came to their town with their extreme loudness and aggressiveness in concert... these guys knew THEY HAD TO FORM A BAND, that is to say. The Who/Pete Townshend and John Entwistle developed the Marshall Stack, too! The Who drove the train in the development of the extremely loud and aggressive rock stage show. The Who were the measuring stick for these three bands, too... Live... The Who were, essentially, a Heavy Metal band... LZ's form was copied from The Who. Plant copied Daltrey. Bonham was an admirer of Moon's and attempted to be a theatrical drummer, and a Loon like Moon, but that didn't really work out for him... And Deep Purple attempted to be as loud in concert as The Who... Idk if Townshend influenced Iommi, but it seems logical to think he did...the SG, power chords and all. Of these three... Sabbath is without doubt the most substantive unit in lyrical content, and the most influential in the development of metal's varied genres. DP... great band, and I love a few of their songs... but I never got them... never understood their reason for being, if you will. LZ... as a low level musician that tried original music with his band... the plagiarism just sticks in my crawl, but I loved them prior to learning of that shit... A vid on how influential The Who were across genre's and in the development of the rock concert would be cool!

Is that picture of Dusty Rhodes with the Sabbath shirt real? Believe it or not, the first time I ever heard Black Sabbath was as a kid in the 80’s when The Road Warriors came down to the ring with “Iron Man.”

When an icon like this shows humility it makes me appreciate them more. Gillan could easily say Purple is the best and he has done enough quality work that he could get away with it.

Black Sabbath was certainly a bigger influence on Heavy Metal. Led Zeppelin was a bigger influence on everything and was a FAR bigger band. It's not even close. Without Zeppelin there would be no Black Sabbath. Zeppelin never put out a bad album. The other 2 bands groups can't make that claim. Deep Purple had some good albums but is clearly third of the 3 groups and their late 60s albums pretty much sucked..
