Check out the song “sellout” by Bigwig. I always really liked the way he put it into perspective as a band member. 🤘

Ian has always been that way. I’ve lived in the DC area since the mid 90s and Ian was very often showing up at shows of other small local bands (for example at the an annual show at Fort Reno Park, a DC punk tradition), just supporting the scene like anyone else would. Great interview by the way congratulations on all the views!

Hello, Ian if you see this, I was your terrible basement neighbor in 93-95, I was friends with Paula & rented from C&L too. I am extremely embarassed to this day that my friends liked to scream FUGAZIIIII every time they dropped me off at 3 am. I was out being a lesbian avenger, grad student, and lush, and didnt quite appreciate the situation. But lol, i always get extra attention whenever I meet musician and tell em I lived next to you... Logan, you did a great job interviewing Ian. I've met him a couple times and he's the most down to earth dude and has an incredible memory. Fugazi is my favorite band of all time. I remember when the Coriky album was delayed because I had pre-ordered it on Discord. Ian wrote a release explaining clearly what was going on and we waited a little bit of extra time. ian was my first interview straight out of journalism school, working for street press that were promoting an upcoming evens tour. we had a 30 minute slot but we spoke for over an hour. as a 21 year old, i was dreading it; that i'd say something stupid, get something wrong, you name it. but he cracked jokes, was very easy to talk to and gave me lots of material. i couldn't imagine having the guts to do that at your age! hats off, chap. keep going.

Minor Threat was hugely influential, & stood out to me, as I was becoming immersed into “punk” (late 80s, early 90s). Fugazi came to town with Nation of Ulysses, and HOLY COW (Cows were always mind blowing, too)!! I’m most thankful for Ian putting out the records of, & touring with NOU. That was a “born again”, eye opening moment. “Punk” is a lot of things. But, a lot of things called “punk” are definitely not. Dudes, in suits, with crazy slick hair, lighting strips of firecrackers & wailing revolutionary rhetoric, between random horn blasts & chill jazz dabs, is punk AF, IMHO. Did Chomsky do a Brittany & shave?

Being from the DC area, I saw in real time the influence Minor Threat and the local punk scene had on the kids. Even though I was a classic rock, heavy metal kid at the time, I had a secret respect for it. I know now that Ian is a modern philosopher. Evan as a kid, he was wise beyond his years. I'm fascinated by his dedication to archiving everything. What's that about? Frank Zappa did that too. Some kind of genius trait maybe. By the way, Logan, great questions great interview.

excellent interview, worth watching more than once. logan, there is a book i think you would enjoy reading if you don't already have it. "Threat By Example", have you heard of it? i don't have my copy with me so i can't give you the ISBN, but you should be able to find it. i found it inspirational, the different stories and articles submitted by people like Ian and Chumbawumba for the book.
