Nepo has my respect. He played like a machine for the first 5 games and gave the champion one hell of a battle in the 6th game. He underperforned later yes, but that has little to do with his skills, and everything to do with the stress. He is still an elite player, one I didn't really like before, but after that I became a fan of his as well, being a big Magnus fan.

This line is actually covered in Jan's free e5 chessable course. After Bd6 instead of Be6, white has apparently has no strong discoveries and the best white can do is Nc3, after which Jan's mainline simplifies to a pawn up endgame for black. Surprised Alireza didn't know the theory, especially since he knew the beginning of the line.

IMO Nepo didn't really have good chances. Yes, game 6 crushed him, but if all it took for him to tilt is to lose one game, then there is no way he wouldn't have tilted later from a loss. Psychologically he wasn't prepared, and psychology is a huge factor in chess. Magnus is just a better player and has won 4 world championships consecutively. He has only ever lost 2 games out of all the World Championship games he has played in. He was definitely the favorite. Ian's a fantastic player, but his chances of winning against Magnus were pretty slim: maybe 20% at the most.

@@hypercubemaster2729 i agree, although many people would say 20% DOES count as "good chances" against someone so dominant, and clearly not past their peak yet : ) of course Nepo didn't have 50% chances. "He has only ever lost 2 games out of all the World Championship games he has played in" true, although these WC formats have been too short (ironically, now that they extended it a little bit - from 12 to 14 games - for Nepo, it turned out there had been no need even for 12 games :) ). eg. Carlsen's 2013 & 2014 matches against Anand are equivalent to just a single match back in the 80s/90s. this being said, it's pretty clear at this point that Carlsen's successful challenger won't come from his own generation. they've had their shots, being at their peak (look like Karjakin faded after the WC match), and they've failed. the next champion will be someone younger - maybe Firouzja (despite this particular video not making his prospects look very well, but he's been improving very fast).

I don't know her, so I don't care. I referred her as a commetator which is not different from what she is doing here. Its only you who are getting offended. Get over it and grow up. I know Judit though, brilliant player!
