That would mean giving back the ability to manipulate games. VAR is by far the greatest threat to manipulation, that is why it is almost never implemented as it should. Why should they want to manipulate games? My guess is betting, almost certainly from abroad, a long way eastwards of the UK. If everyone ''knows'' who's going to win, nobody will bet on others winning, (though they might on goal timings, yellow or red cards). Things are then evened up by ''human errors'' further own the table and the waters muddied further by ''mistakes'' motivated referees' personal bias. I personally think there is enough evidence for detectives to closely examine the PGMOL and PL officials.

Their needs to be an independent investigation into the PGMOL and refereeing in the premier league. Their is a consistent pattern over many seasons of Liverpool and Arsenal being on the wrong end of big decisions. However, I can't think of any going against Man City. It would be naive with the money and betting outlets in football that there isn't any corruption. The credibility of the officiating in the premier league is now in question.
