Other detail: several songs of Gillan's solo carreer are as a proto-speed metal. Incredible!
@markrago72174 жыл бұрын
And Glory Road is trippy acid rock album. Clear Air Turbulence is great jazz/rock fusion, as was Scarabus. Starting with Secret of the Dance, then Lucitania Express, Bite the Bullet, Hadely Bop Bop, I'll rip Out Your Spine, and a few others though, definitely a speed metal thing in there. Digital Bitch from Gillan era Sabbath too, almost thrash.

@@markrago7217 Toolbox is so badass because on his previous album Gillan didn't really scream much and the songs were pretty "ordinary". When he read the reviews, Ian Gillan said, "right that's it, I'm gonna scream my lungs out on the next album". And he did! Yes Candy Horizon is on there.

And that is why, of all the Deep Purple spin-offs, it was the Gillan albums I actually bought. It was the no-nonsense edge of punk, the humour and the fact that Ian actually sang about stuff I could relate to. This music helped me survive the '80s, thanks guys!

Not many people hate Janick. He's a great player and a showman too. It's just that Maiden really didn't need a third guitarist.
@TheEternalWayfarer2 ай бұрын
The guitarist who originally recorded this song, Bernie Tormé (a great guitarist!), actually defended Janick saying that this is a hard song to play and that “there isn’t a single guitarist on Earth who can play Bite the Bullet without struggling” because “this is what happens when the keyboard player writes the damn riff”. Also check Iron Maiden’s bootlegs of the TXF era. Man on the Edge in particular, the pre-solo riff is very Blackmore-ish.

Jonah Fuerstenberg Yeah Janick can definitely play, quite acrobatically too. He definitely was a Iron Maiden candidate clear back to White Spirit and Gillan. I think I prefer Bernie Tormes tone and technique in this particular band, but Janick was certainly a solid replacement. Bernie had a more chaotic technique and a bit more treble and high end in his riffing and shredding. Janick had more of a bluesy feedback vibe to his playing (think Sunbeam or Bluesy Blue Sea), but that never stopped him from keeping up when playing Bernie era songs with Gillan.Both were in the dawn of their prime back then. RIP Bernie. Keep holding it down with Maiden and company Janick.
