One of those rare films where I felt connected with not only the car, but the owner as well. Relatable humans in the car world are getting harder to find, but glad you interviewed Johanna! You can really feel the passion coming from someone who said they initially were not into cars! The filming style really helped drive the story home too. Great work!

Sublime! A Lotus Exige is the only model that I should swap my Honda S2000 for. I understand how it feels just because driving this kind of analogic cars challenge drivers. The driving experience that you are feeling is not well compared to modern digital cars that substitute the driver habilities. Motorsport is all about it, not only been fast but you have to be part of the car. Wonderful video, love it.

@markd325015 күн бұрын
I'm not so sure I'd say "TRUE Lotus", more like "original Lotus" which were road car versions of Colin Chapman's racing car philosophies. At that time Lotus was primarily a racing car company, and a very successful one at that. That's changed over the years, and I don't think Lotus today is missing the point, it's just that the old days are gone. New regulations makes it impossible to do what they used to, and even then, what they used to do wasn't profitable or sustainable as a business and that's where the problem lies for today. What they're doing now is adjusting to the desire to become profitable which requires change. If Colin Chapman were still alive, I think he'd be on board with this. I hope Lotus Hethel continues to be viable, because Lotus Wuhan isn't producing anything that's even remotely appealing to me.

Lotus deserves more credit for staying niche even 20 years ago, preserving the essence of what made older 70s and 80s lightweight cars so enjoyable to drive, right on (or beyond) the edge of crash saftey requirements. The real problem for enthusiasts is that there are fewer and fewer people left who are able and willing to buy pure sports cars new. Back in the day, fun cars were not as compromised in terms of comfort and practicality, relative to the average econo-box most people bought, which made the choice easier.

When she said it took her parents years to understand why she bought the Porsche; I felt that. It always amazes me how non-car enthusiasts have really no idea why actual car enthusiasts like to spend lots of money and time on cars that aren't just practical, everyday SUV's or Sedan's. To the point where they just see you as someone trying to show-off or compensate for something. Some people really have no idea how someone could just want to drive a car for fun.

Power steering is soooo overrated, especially in a car like this! And it doesn't matter if a Lotus has AC or not: Mine had AC but it was so useless. Or just defective. Had to sell my Elise S3 for family reasons. It was a wise decision to replace it with an M140i, which is a really great car (at least it keeps dry inside when it's raining). But it lacks the spirit of the Lotus, the feel of direct driving and so much else. Wish i had the opportunity to get another Elise or Exige one day...
