The clarity & honestly of this version is just magical. If you close your eyes you can just imagine so clearly a way of life as it was for a travelling nation. Luke captures the spirit so well. There will never be another. Gone but never forgotten.

What a great singer, every song he sang was pure magic, gave it his all. Rest in peace, dear friend, left us far too soon.

Bless you Shaun for the blessing of Luke Kelly. He was truly great. I don't think he was a Traveller himself but he sung this song from the depths of his heart.

I remember buying this song on a 45 record by a band called The Johnstons. This was before I heard the proper version by Luke! Both are good but Luke is incomparable.

If I had my time again I would go homeless and take my chances; I've no wife and kids and no mortgage so I live simply within the system. At least I've lived a different kind of life

How come Irish? Written by an English song writer. I think it referred to English travellers.
@christaylor20702 жыл бұрын
written by Ewan McColl, born in Scotland lived most of his life in Manchester and later London. But quite a few of his songs, Dirty Old Town in particular have been adopted by Irish musicians.
