Little food for thought on what went down today on the Ganaraska river. It’s scary to think the regulations can be changed so quickly. What could this lead to next? Hunting and fishing is a way of life and regulation changes need to be discussed and talked over. Not a rushed decision for votes in a local area but a decision that will affect everyone who enjoys the outdoors in the future. I really want to hear from everyone on this topic. If you agree or not they are all our rivers, lake and Forrests. I want to hear from you all. #fishing #salmon #ganaraskariver #porthope #ontario #lakeontariofishing #changes #whatdoyouthink

We pay for fishing licenses to the Province. In return, the Province is supposed to service the fishery by doing things like hiring people to enforce the regulations. They're not doing that, so what the heck are they doing with the money we pay them? Their solution when problems arise? Shut down rivers like the Ganaraska. Bad policy.

Licences stopped paying for conservation efforts decades ago, all that money just goes into government pockets.

What I hate in today’s society is that instead of policing these situations people just decide that everyone is banned. If you really want to stop people from poaching start have more law enforcement in those areas. It’s not hard or complicated.

I disagree it’s actually impossible to fish ethically there when the kings are in they’re packed like sardines generally there is next to nobody ever fishing legit there I signed the petition I think anyone who fished steps is a greaseball

It has nothing to do about poaching. don't you know the situation is worldwide? the salmon;s stock levels are at a critical low. It's about time people start doing something. And this guy on this channel is a liar. A local politician cannot modify the rules from the MRN. There's a strict process to follow when changing rules.

Maybe people shouldn't snag fish, leave gutted fish, and garbage everywhere? You have to respect the fish and the places you choose to fish.

you are right we don't know how the extended season will effect Steelhead , perhaps more pressure , more catch and keep , I see more pressure to many fisheries making me think tighter regulations in the future. Biggest problem I have seen for years is not having the right people in those political positions

I live on the river and it's not fair. I litteraly live 200 yrds from the river and I know it's terrible what people do to the salmon but I catch the browns and bows and grilse and have educated so many people about ethics. It's not right.

I dont fish there, but im worried about the extra pressure on the rivers i do fish. Noncompliance would be my choice if this was the river I had fished for years.

Salmon fishing in port hope is dipping smelts. Might as well just use one big net and give all the human seagulls 100lbs each. This isn't fishing

Was pretty obvious something like this was going to happen eventually after everything that started during you know what. Remember when a certain KZbinr went upstream from the lake in a canoe and the drama that ensued? 😂 I for one was proud of that guy This my friends is like “stealing deer from the kings forest” in the story of Robin Hood. I got a question for ya if people won’t be able to fish the ganny won’t every other creek/river in the area get slammed that much harder? People gotta go somewhere!

I will say the gong show that has been occurring there should have stopped a long time ago . Nothing but line running , snagging , netting . It always hurts the ethically minded folks . That stretch should be a sanctuary.

What a precedent this is going to set for other cities and towns that have a migratory salmon/trout river in their city. When the loogans and poachers show up and don't fish with some sort of integrity and leave the place a fucking mess, these things will happen more often. Too many worm containers, Tim's cups and probably discarded fish bodies are making their decision alot easier. So not only are we losing places to more people limiting access to private property now cities can restrict and change fishing regulations.

I can understand why this happened, there is not enough law enforcement to protect our river. I was just down there and people were netting the salmon also it was past 8 so no one should have been up past Robertson bridge but they were. I well never look the other when someone is poaching. Hunting and fishing is my life and i believe if you see someone hurting our fisheries or wildlife and you say nothing your just as bad as the one doing it. I know no one likes this but it was because of the Disgusting behavior that has been going on down there is why this happened. I feel if people stood up when something illegal was happening this would not have happened

Biggest mistake in the history of fishing in Canada. Last minute rules and no policing. Tons and piles of carcasses. Smells worse now than it did when it is open. Also when oct 14th came around the residents on the street across the old factory were telling fisherman all the way from ottawa and montreal that it was still illegal to fish. Most know which house it is that started the harassment. We got there and told the people why would these fishing regulation signs be up if it was not allowed to fish here? They stayed and fished. However, the ones before them left. It stunk so bad all the rigamortis and gas coming from the expanded carcasses of the dead almon. Plus not many went up the ladder as usual. I would not buy a house on that road if it was given to me. Usually those fish would have been caught and harvested. They came stayed died and wrotted. Thanks to the ignorant who 14k who signed a petition. Ministry did have a plan and officers to patrol 2024 however that all got cancelled when this last minute by law was set up. Think this should be rescinded.
