I mean there are villager trading halls that rely on workstation path finding and they just fall on an open trapdoor. This is just for early gameplay or you just don’t want a fancy looking trading setup
@travcollier

It is very elegant. A lot of the overcomplicating comes from the olden days when a trading hall was much more difficult to make. Back when villagers were born with their professions and trades locked in, you really did need efficient ways to breed, sort, and dispose of massive numbers. Since the villager update, I've been pretty much doing a simple design where every villager is just standing in a 1x2 stall on a bed. There are a few tricks to be aware of, but it is so easy I haven't bothered with anything else... Except for adding some 3 villager mini-iron-farms into it. Honestly, keeping it on golems only spawning where you want is the biggest headache anyway.

man, every time I watch this I pick up something new. From keeping track of the sun position using F3 to the end bit that shows how to lift the villager and put a job sight block back underneath him using a trap door and bucket. The explanation vs "do this" style is excellent and unusual in KZbin videos and I thank you for it.

I would suggest using scaffolding instead of the usual stairs for access to the trading hall itself, as this prevents villagers from occasionally entering the trading area and claiming a job without being trapped inside a hole. In addition, this makes a one-way door such that villagers who aren't supposed to fall down into a jobsite hole (such as baby villagers or farmers) can escape with some minor player interaction (breaking the jobsite and opening the trapdoor). Overall, this trading hall and breeding method is one of the best and by far, the simplest.

Thank you for making videos about your designs. They are awesomely simple and cheap to build. I imagine if someone wanted a real trading hall rather than a trench in the ground they could just build up stalls above ground that the villager could climb up and jump into. There is so much amazing stuff about this one but using the trap door to block other villagers and zombies (usually?) getting in, and allowing any workstation to be used for the luring and then swapped out is priceless. Lifting them with water was a sweet move that you didn't even comment on :)

I found that if the trapdoor is still closed, I could not put a block over the villager's head. Then I opened the trapdoor, and found that if I close it again, the villager's feet remains standing on the job site block -- i.e. I cannot reroll the job site by destroying it, since the villager would immediately escape. So I put a stone slab just above the head instead. It protects the villager from hostile mobs, as well as prevents more villagers from falling in, as well as protects against lightning. Is that a good permanent measure?
@ianxofour
@ianxofour 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cosmia! Great observations and question. I do not recommend using top slabs over the villager because it allows trapped villager to socialize with other villagers that could otherwise be searching for an unclaimed job site in the trading hall. I recommend using a full block instead over the villager's head, as shown in the video, or any other block that will block the view (such as bottom slabs). You can raise the villager to be on top of the trapdoor again by using the water bucket trick at 5:52. Also, lightning affects anything within 4 blocks of distance (including below it) of where it strikes, so a protective roof over the trading hall should be at least that height. Let me know if you have any more questions.
@CosmiaNebula
@CosmiaNebula 3 жыл бұрын
@@ianxofour I decided to just use a lightning rod since I'm too lazy to make a roof. The Wiki states that the rod will attract all lightning "within an area of 32×4×32 blocks above a lightning rod".

I use this concept too when moving villagers in long distances. I just plop down a job site block to a fairly separated villager, wait till he adopts the job, break the job site, move a little, place down job site and repeat. The good thing about this method is the terrain height is not a big problem. As long as there's a way for them to get to the job site, they will follow you.

I made it one block deeper. When you put a trapdoor on the seeling infront of the villager, it wont fall out, you can see him fully and if you want to release him for some reason, no problem. reason f.E. zombifying. Just place a boat in front of the villager. lead a zombie into the hall. When he´s in the boat, realease the villager, by opening the trapdoor. Push F3 B for the hitboxes, so you can kill the zombie and not the villager after the zombification. Now you can heal him. Also, if you just lead a zombie into the hall it will zobify all villagers at once and you can save time. This is by far the coolest and easiest Design for a villager Farm. Thanks man!!!!! Love your stuff! greetings from Munich

Just a note about this trading hall design, be carful about pillager patrols spawning near your villager setup, without blocks above the villagers in the holes, the pillagers have clear line of fire to shoot and kill and the villagers you worked so hard to get the trades right. I haved used this trading hall design for every new world i've made, and pillager patrols are the only weakness, (besides lightning ofc lol), i have lost a whole trading hall to this (upwards of about 40 diff villagers O_O), and it was totaly my fault, i stress that you cover up your villagers as soon as you lock in the trades you want, a slab works best

@@ianxofour ok so I've been cracking away all day. It still works in bedrock. The way villagers link to the work stations isn't as simple, but i like this setup a lot more than other trading halls I've seen. Great stuff

Really good video. I was wondering how you were going to put the workstation back at the end. I doubt I ever would have thought of using water like that.

I was thinking of putting a piston below the dirt block, but when he just used water I felt stupid lol

LOL, digging holes for the villagers, specially the librarians to get a nice collection of spells, is exactly what i've been doing all that time. I was actually looking to see if I could find a better trading hall, but I see we just use the same stuff XD

Going to have to say your farms are a way to re-start a new world and get going quick. Sometimes i think we get so trapped in the "big boy designs" that we fail to see a solution that gets 90% of the way there with 10% of the effort.
