I have my exam tomorrow and watching your videos just to make sure that everything's ready has tranquilized me so much thank you. I just have a quick question, would you recommend utilizing the words "product, context, audience etc" in the actual analysis? If so, our teacher has always told us to include all of these brief analysis' in the introduction to show understanding and to help us decide what we want to analyze more deeply in the 3 upcoming paragraphs. Do you agree with her statement or would you structure it differently? Thank you again for all the help that you provide to us for free.

Hi Dave and Andrew, Firstly, thank you for these videos. They are truly informative and fun. Could I request you to do a video on Conventions of different Non-literary text types mentioned in the guide so as to ascertain what are some of the must-haves of each of them? For example: Manifesto, Pastiche, Travel Brochure/Writing, etc. I have seen the video on Political Cartoon and it was mighty helpful. Once again, thank you!

Hi Rashmi. Thanks for the positive feedback and request. You're right that each text type has slightly different aspects to explore. David and I will be sure to put out more videos in the coming months that hit a range of non-literary text types. We will try to hit as many text types as possible as we approach the May 2022 exams. Thank you Dave and Andrew for bringing such an informative content! Regarding to the subtext, I'd like to add a bit here. From another perspective, Tide may also be selecting the perspective toward a father and his daughter sleeping to appeal to the target audience - the moms - with the emphasis of family value.

Great point! It is also perhaps a subtle message that women are the ones doing laundry while the men are sleeping? This was brought up by another viewer. Being a present and nurturing father is probably the main message Tide is making. Incidentally, Proctor and Gamble, Tide’s parent company have made some GREAT video ads recently about equality. I think their most recent is called “The Choice”

Well if we’re adding things, what about the fact that this kid in the image is very little. And at that age, children are known for being extremely hyper and a real handful and here is this very young child maybe in the “terrible twos” relaxed and asleep. The tide and downy is responsible for him finally resting and not making a mess all over the house

hi. if I were to write an introduction, what is the contextual information that I can integrate. also can I say it is primarily targeted at house wives by showing them a scene that they desire - sweet loving peace and comfort, as well as secondarily to ethnic minorities through addressing them and showing inclusivity . thx

Thank you for this video, I was wondering if I were to do a ad/PsA for my IO, should I refer to all these points (PCAVTEVS) or is it sufficient to only go into the ones that correlate with the global issue since that is the backbone :)?

Probably not. Focus on some and consider VISUAL ELEMENTS as well as TEXTUAL elements that help to show your global issue. Use the acronym to do some deep thinking about your PSA and really analyze the features carefully.

I'm wondering, as far as audience, it might be deliberately intended to also appeal to people of color, not just men and women. There's not much downside to building in a deliberate appeal to people of color. That will probably attract more business than the few xenophobes that might be turned off by it.

That's a great point, Ralph. Lots of companies and businesses have shifted thinking to be more inclusive. Do you ever use vintage ads with your students? Those have sparked some great conversations in our classes. Great for exploring how cultural norms have shifted over time!
