I’m so glad it’s continued to be loved and remembered by so many people. This was literally my first ever RPG horror I ever played and it got me into the world the RPG and pixel art in general. Though i do agree that I am sad that the sacrifice ending wasn’t cannon. It was a really good ending branch.

I don’t know why but the “Ib all alone shadow bed” ending for me is one of the sadder endings, and actually humanises Ib. I mean Gary dies, Mary is a burnt mess of ash and it’s just Ib dreaming of one of their happiest days alive. Before giving up into the endless dream. It also shows how important the handkerchief is for Ib and when they give it to Gary, it’s a big deal at least for them. But who knows maybe I’m looking far to into a 10 year old game.

i looked up some guides and some tips from diff sources that was able to tell me how to get said endings in the video so people know what to do specifically for each ending, specifically for people not familiar with the game and the choices that are supposed to be major in the plot. (compliments/credits to a steam post i saw in the internet for the game) *IB ALL ALONE* 1. when you're about to escape the fabricated world through the large painting, choose not to jump in right away. 2. if you do decide to jump into the painting: • if garry is not with you and mary has been burned, then choose to go back with (ib's hallucination of) garry • if garry is with you, then choose to go with the illusion of ib's mother 3. at the end of the cyan area (unlocked after a second playthrough), if garry is not with you, go up to the "final stage" sculpture and select the option to sleep there. getting this ending on your first playthrough DOES NOT unlock the extra dungeon. *FORGOTTEN PORTRAIT* to get these endings, garry's doom counter needs to be at 3 or above. you can achieve that by doing three or more of the following: GRAY AREA: • when you enter the room containing the mirror and lamp piece, check the mirror. Then, pick the option to cover your eyes, allowing garry to kick the mannequin head. • when you are escaping the area and running from the painted ladies, choose to take shortcuts through the headless statues. garry will shove them over and they'll break. you can do this twice for an extra if you take a route that passes by the "hanged man" painting. VIOLET AREA: • after entering the secret passageway, make garry tug the third of the five cords. • instead of moving aside the blue doll, choose to kick it. (you can also add 2 more points to the doom counter by failing to escape from the doll room, but this shouldn't be necessary if you've done everything else up to here.) BROWN AREA: • when mary asks ib who she'd rather leave with, say you'd rather leave with garry. after doing that, progress to the toy box in the sketchbook area. once you get upstairs and mary is done with garry's rose, head back down and get garry's lighter from him. go back up and burn away the yellow roses, then run forward and burn mary's painting. now you can go ahead and leave the fabricated world. this ending will add a piece of artwork to the true guertena exhibit. *TOGETHER, FOREVER* follow all the steps of "forgotten portrait" above, but DO NOT burn mary's painting. instead, go straight to the dark gallery and leave the fabricated world. after seeing this ending, mary can be found in the true guertena exhibit, and some special art will be unlocked. *WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF GUERTENA / A PAINTING'S DEMISE* these two endings cannot be seen on your first playthrough. if your save file has a diamond in the corner, then you're fine. other than that, there are a few more requirements to see these endings: • you need to have inspected the collapsed portrait of ib in the hide-and-seek room. • the doom counter must be at 5 or above. (make every single choice listed for "forgotten portrait", except for mary's question in the brown area.) • garry must fail to escape the doll room. for "welcome to the world of guertena", tell mary you want to leave with her. for "a painting's demise", tell mary you want to leave with garry. i recommend saving in the room just before her question if you want to quickly get both of these if you've done everything right, when you get to the doll room and speak to garry again, you'll now be given two options ("snap out of it!" and "garry...?"). pick the second option and whichever ending you've chosen will play out from there. if you pick "snap out of it!", you will be set back on track to any of the above endings instead. *PROMISE OF REUNION / MEMORY'S CRANNIES* "promise of reunion" is considered the true ending of the game. to get this ending, garry's doom count must be below 3, and his friendship count must be at 9 or more. the requirements are somewhat strict and it can be easy to slip up, so doing this will guarantee that your doom count stays low and your friendship reaches a number above or equal to 9 by the time you reach the toy box. first of all, try to use the talk button (E on keyboard) to talk to garry as much as possible. whenever you enter a new room or interact with something, give the talk button a press. if you see 10+ of his dialogues you'll get one point, and if you see 20+ you'll get two. RED AREA: • as soon as you meet garry, look at the abstract art at the end of the hallway. GRAY AREA: 1. in the room with the teacup puzzle, check the scent-sensitive porcupuss painting after completing said puzzle. 2. when you reach the room containing the mirror and the lamp piece, check the mirror and stop garry from kicking the mannequin head. 3. while escaping the area, DON'T take any shortcuts through the headless statues. doing this will add to garry's doom count. 4. after ib's nightmare, upon waking up in the safe room, pick up garry's coat and return it to him. then, talk to him again at least once. BROWN AREA: • when mary asks ib who she would rather leave with, don't say garry. either say mary or just dodge the question. telling her you want to leave with garry will add a point to his doom counter. VIOLET AREA: 1. look at the milk puzzle on the wall. 2. in the room containing "separation", when the lights go out, say either "im here" or "im not". don't say ".....". 3. after entering the secret passageway as garry, be careful NOT to pull the third cord in the room with five cords. this will add to his doom count. 4. don't kick the blue doll. (even if you really want to.) just move it aside. 5. failing to escape the doll room will add 3 friendship points, but will also increase your doom counter by 2. if you avoided all other doom points leading up to this, it's 100% safe to intentionally fail it. these extra bond points will save you in case you've missed anything along the way. (if you'd rather not add to your doom counter, it's also safe to escape the doll room, but only if you are absolutely sure you've done everything and have been talking to garry with the talk button at least 20 times. either way, save beforehand just in case.) SKETCHBOOK: 1. at the beginning, pick the upper path and take the treasure. 2. in the top left part of the map, stand in the sunlight and look at the large pudding. answer "yes" to garry's question. then, talk to him again at least once. 3. (in the toy box, if garry wakes you up after falling, you made a mistake along the way. if ib wakes up alone, you're on the right track.) 4. after being pushed into the toy box and speaking to garry, say either "im fine" or "hurts all over". dont say ".....". by now, if you followed along, you should have accumulated anywhere from 9 to 12 bond points, which is more than enough to obtain the true ending. go forth and burn mary's painting, and garry will accidentally cut his hand on the glass. for "promise of reunion", offer to give him ib's handkerchief. for "memory's crannies", don't offer it to him. if for some reason your friendship ends up being too low (below 9), he won't accept it even if you do offer it to him, resulting in the "memory's crannies" ending regardless. if you choose to go with the illusion of ib's mother when leaving the fabricated world, you will get "ib all alone". and that's it! seeing "promise of reunion" will play the credits, add garry to the true guertena exhibition, and unlock some special artwork there. . . . this took me 2 to 3 hours to type on my phone, i really hope i helped at least a few people with this guide in my comment

It kinda makes sense that you have to fail the doll room for the true ending, ib saving garry would totally increase their bond with each other, to the point where he doesn’t hesitate to take the handkerchief when she offers it. He even gets some extra lines about her saving him in the next “talk to garry” option in the sunlight

I think it makes more sense if you think like this: He didn't accept the handkerchief because their bond increased when she saved him, they were already very close either way, but because his sanity and awareness were damaged from failing the dolls event, such as not the thought of the handkerchief being an important thing to Ib nor the fact that he was about to stain it striked his mind as fast as it does in Promise Of Reunion path. Since his critical thinking was slower due to mental damage, he didn't think all that in time to stop his hand before touching and staining it like he does when he succeds in the doll room (ergo, when his mind is well). This is proven when he says "I suppose i'll borrow it... Wait, isn't this real lace?! I wouldn't want to make this dirty! *Too late, though*" in the true end path, differently from when he straight up refuses Ib's offer in Memory's Crannies path.

No, you don't have to fail the doll room. It just adds +3 to the Garry bond counter so it significantly increases your chances of getting it without too much effort.

Imo after the ending where you stay in the other world forever, it's the worst ending in terms of fate (it's still an amazing ending in terms of writing). You go back to the real world with no memory of your friend who cared and looked out for you, he is dead. His killer has become apart of your life as your sister, and you are none the wiser. What's worse? She eats the last memory of him, the candy he gave you.

My older brother showed me this game, and I think it's really cool! I loved the story and the characters so much. I'm just glad to know about this game and be able to talk about it. My brother said it's harder to get the Promise of Reunion ending. He said that you have to do more things than the original game. We tried beating the game 5 times to get the ending and we have 20 hours on the game lol

You want to try and talk to Garry in as many rooms as possible (I think 20+), return his coat, stop him from breaking mannequins, and interact with objects. I think if you avoided anything that boosted his danger meter you can fail the doll room for extra bond points (if you did anything else wrong he'll die later but otherwise only failing the doll room should get promise of reunion pretty easy). I had that problem initially too. If I remember right, you need to 1) let Gary kick the mannequin head in the gray area by closing your eyes, 2) have Gary push both sets of mannequins when being chased (each one is a point for Gary's danger meter - I initially was only pushing one set), 3) pull the chain that breaks a mannequin head, 4) kick the doll, and then you should get the two bad endings from failing the doll room.

@@theamazingimptini No, I doubt it, since I'm still trying to get the ending on my second playthrough. (I think I don't have enough "Garry's doomed" points.) Although, I heard that, in the original, if you told Mary that you'd rather leave with Garry, it'll also increase Garry's danger meter by 1 point. However, this would also mean that Mary's bond with Ib will not change, so you'll have to do other things with Mary to raise it up enough again for the Welcome to The World of Guertena ending.

@@theamazingimptini Okay, nevermind, I just checked, apparently the ultimate factor to getting Garry stuck in the Doll Room is actually that piece of dialogue with Mary when she asks who Ib would go with. Answering that you'd go with Garry leads to A Painting's Demise. But, answering with you'd go with Mary leads to Welcome to The World of Guertena. (I'd also encourage you to increase your bond with Mary.) Still, you'll need to see the sinister painting and have Garry's doom count high enough. (Also see the "Hanged Garry" message just in case.) Finally, don't choose "Snap out of it" when encountering insane Garry, that'll just make Ib slap him out of it like the other times. Hope you'll get the endings.

Man, I wish an ending like in that one IB comic was real. It was an ending where all three of them made it out of Guertanna's gallery... You can probably still find the comic by looking up "IB comic", though I really do wish there was a bigger Fandom for this game, mods would be interesting to have. Anyways, the plot of the comic is as follows: - Mary is trying to take Ib with her to escape the painted world - Ib asks where Gary is leading Mary to breakdown and spill her turmoil - Ib convinces her to do the right thing so they go to find Gary - They find Gary passed out as his rose has been entirely plucked - Mary decides to do the only thing she can - She paints her yellow rose blue and it works as Gary wakes up - Mary in-turn faints, so Gary and Ib rush to the exit while carrying her - They make it out, but don't remember anything - Eventually they confront each other with their respective belongings - A handkerchief (Mary), a lighter (Ib), and a painted blue rose (Gary) - After exchanging back their belongings, they remember and damn do I wish there was more to that comic (having an after ending would be nice) There is also another very interesting, maybe not so happy Ib comic out there called "Labyrinth of the Blue King" where only Ib made if out and returns much older (around Gary's age now). Not sure if there is still a voice over of the comic on KZbin or if the comic was translated (written in Japanese, I think) outside of the voice over. There might be translation panels on its page though

All endings ranked from worst to best imo 7 - Ib All Alone (All versions) : Just kind of bland and abrupt 6 - Memories' Cranies : It just feels... Really hollow. 5 - A Painting's Demise : Pretty good, could've been done better. 4 - Forgotten Portrait - Really Creppy and well put together 3 - Promise of Reunion - A great ending for Garry and Ib, but Mary desserved better. 2 - Together Forever : I'm just really happy for Mary, even if it is at the price of Garry's life. 1 - Welcome to the World Of Guertenna : One of my favorite endings in any horror game. It's both weirdly poetic and beautiful as well as downright horrifying. The track that plays is also one of my favorites in any game period.

Gary will die in the Toy Box if you boosted his danger meter slightly. Kick the mannequins and dolls once and fail the doll room and he should die. From what I read they changed some mechanics from the original for how bonding with Gary works. You still want to prevent him from kicking the mannequins, pick up and return his jacket, talk to Gary in as many rooms as possible, tell Mary you want to escape with Gary, and check paintings/items he'll respond to. I also read saving Gary when he fails the doll room boosts his bond but that's not essential (and unless you avoided all other instances of raising Gary's danger he'll die in the Toy Box). I did intentionally fail the doll room to get promise of reunion for this video.

I always felt like Mary wasn't given a fair hand in the game and I think additional content that expanded upon her character to either make her irredeemable or to give her a chance would've helped the overall story. Sad that the dev of the game seems to be fine with how things are.

You couldn't in the original either. You may be thinking of the Sacrifice ending, which was a fan mod to the original where Ib destroys her rose and dies, becoming the one left behind, and allowing Garry and Mary to escape. This ending is not canon and was even taken down by Kouri.

Nope that ending doesn’t exist and you have to burn the paint, if you rip it Mary kills Ib

The description provides most of this info. Have Gary break as much stuff as possible, fail the doll room, and don't say you want to escape with Mary/talk to Mary much.

@@CrankyTemplar ive done all that but somehow i still saved garry in the doll room? i told mary i want to escape with garry. should i not talk much with garry in the break room to get painting's demise?

I didn't talk to Garry at all trying for a Painting's Demise so I'm not sure if that influences it. The biggest thing I missed in my initial attempts to get it is that I needed to break both sets of mannequins during the chase sequence as otherwise I would keep waking Garry up in the doll room.
