I think top water lures for pike is the most exciting way to go! At my local reservoir my rat is my first "go to" lure as it very rarely lets me down. With frogs I find it best to wait 2 or 3 seconds with a little slack line after the take before I strike, I get a better hook up rate that way. Great video, keep them coming!
@nothin5294 жыл бұрын
With the frog style lures you need to wait until the fish has taken the bait properly before you strike, I’ve found maybe a second or two is best and a good hard strike to expose the hooks! 👍

Hi guys thanks for another great video love watching them, they really make my day. I’m a keen angler myself but still new to the game and I was wondering if there was any chance you would consider making tutorial videos? I.e suggestions for the right type of lures for certain waters and weather conditions etc. I understand you guys are incredibly busy but if you managed to have a look at this comment and consider it for future ideas I would massively appreciate it. Thanks again guys.

No problem the reason I suggested this is because I blank like 95% of the time I fish and I’m convinced I’m cursed haha, I love watching you guys because you actually show when this happens and you also show when fish get off which makes for good viewing because of the honesty factor.

If you set up the baitcaster for each time you change the lure you won't get any problems.. 👍🏻 It's only a matter of using the spool float tensioner in free spool letting the lure drop from tip to floor 👍🏻 when it falls gradual at a nice pace and the spool doesn't over run when the lure hits the deck .. you are then set .... Take the magnetics off slightly to add a bit more speed and ..boom your ready
@IBandAndyFishing5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, the difficulty is that I'm trying to cast 15g lures with 80lb braid! I fouund that by tension flipping it I could get reasonable casts out there, super impressed that the reel has such a broad range of uses!

@@IBandAndyFishing There are variety of yellowish species around southern Africa. That range widely in size, behaviour and feeding patterns, so yes they are great to catch. And the Tigers are simple mind blowing when it comes to speed and aggression. So yes I miss them a lot. I do a fair bit of pike on fly too. But this season has been all about topwater for me. Morning mate. I’m intrigued by the choice of leader you’re using. As you know whenever we’ve fished for pike I use the SG finesse titanium leaders as I’ve lost lures when using polymer leaders before. How well is that new stuff holding up to the teeth? Did you have to change it during that 3h session due to teeth damage, etc?
@IBandAndyFishing5 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon! It's very advanced copolymer called Regenerator. I've been using it all year for all of my pike fishing and haven't had to replace any of the traces yet, very impressive stuff!
@MrMuckyPaws5 жыл бұрын
That’s great to know. I’ll have to give it a try as the Finesse traces (as good as they are) don’t last that long.

Well done Andy, some of those takes were awesome especially that distance wake and take 👌. I’ve yet to catch from the surface but whilst here in South Wales I have the perfect venue to try. I to have the fruck but in natural colours. I was surprised about the hook up and fails you had 🤷♂️. As for the ducks I recon your spot on mate, I bet they’ve been nailed already and they have had another nest. Then again she could have been an early nester and had another. As the weathers been so good. Once again, congratulations on seeing I’ve 3k subscribers, you both deserve it. Dare I say I think bigger things are to come for your duo team 👍
@IBandAndyFishing5 жыл бұрын
that really kind BCP, thank you so much! Yeah I was surprised about the hook ups, I do think much of this is about luck and holding your nerve, I'm not always on it with either of those things! The nest of duckling was very odd, no "teenage" sized ducks anywhere. It definitely stood out as odd.....

Andy quick question, when is the best moment to use topwater baits?
@IBandAndyFishing5 жыл бұрын
that's a great question Rick! I like it when the water has warmed a bit, so spring and early summer, particularly either early morning or later in the evening. I find some waters just don't respond to it, even if they look perfect, it's a question of just keep trying!

I liked the video - thank you. You keep the fish out of the water for too long, no need to film it in the net on the bank with lure in mouth. Last fish was oxygen starved as a result when it went back - fish care in summer should come above longer lifts for the camera. Cheers
@IBandAndyFishing4 жыл бұрын
How long was the fish out of the water?
@lyrialrs65084 жыл бұрын
@@IBandAndyFishing Long enough for the shot in the net with lure in its mouth, to measure the length, for you to tell the story of the take, to hold it up twice for the video. Too long. Whilst I appreciate it's a fine line as you need to capture the action, it doesn't need to be like that. A sign fish was struggling was the gill plates flaring consistently. Reason I know is that I have had them out too long in the past too and have learnt from guys like UncutAngling about minimising that bank time
@IBandAndyFishing4 жыл бұрын
You're assuming here that the fish wasn't rested in the water for 5 minutes between being unhooked and being lifted, which is actually what happened. Totally appreciate that everybody wants to see the best in fish welfare, but you've got you make sure you know what actually happened before you start throwing this around bud. Fish never out of the water for more than a few seconds. 👍
@lyrialrs65084 жыл бұрын
@@IBandAndyFishing I'm not going to say you're lying as I dont particularly want to argue, when I see your channel is a passionate project for all types of fishing which I admire the dedication to - I think it's great. But either my eyes are going and that last fish wasnt oxygen starved after being out of the water too long, or it wasnt rested. I wouldn't like to think I was one of those annoying internet people so let's leave it at that. I watched the video in anticipation of a canal topwater pike session tomorrow - if I can get a fish or two like the last one I'll be a happy man. Tight lines
@IBandAndyFishing4 жыл бұрын
I just watched it back again, even the part where I'm talking about the capture again, the fish is actually in the net in the water at that point, I used the shot of the lure in the mouth as b-roll to connect the talking shot and the lift shot. I can see why you might have misunderstood the shot but please do rest assured we take fish welfare very seriously 👍 Tight lines for your next trip, hopefully the fresh water will have got them going!
