Hi Roy, thanks for your comments, you make a good point about the lights... the answer is Yes and No... you can switch off the lights on the pads in the Editor by changing the pad color to off, or if using the pad as a toggle to only light up when toggled on, but I don't see any way to switch the lights off on the faders, pitch wheel or buttons. Maybe Alesis will add an option to any future software updates??

Colin Hogan Hi, thank you very much for your feedback, I'm glad you like my video. Midi latency is really small, between 1ms and 3ms per 1 metre distance. To give you an idea what that means in real life, it's about the same latency that a guitarist gets down the guitar cable between his guitar and his amp.

I have vortex 1. I connect it to Kross workstation for sounds. How can I map the ribbon to filter control.
@IbandUK5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Firstly download the midi implementation chart from Korg if you don't have it already... www.korg.com/us/support/download/manual/0/86/2689/ Inside this zip file is a folder called KROSS_MIDIimp and inside that folder is a file called KROSS_MIDIimp.TXT... open this one in a notepad or word app. It looks complicated so let me simplify it. Look for the line that has the word Modulation1 in it, it's about 20 lines down from the top of the document. Look to the left of the word Modulation1 on the same line and you should see (01), just before vv and (vv). The (01) is the CC number for Modulation1. This line, and the ones just below it, have the CC numbers the Kross uses when it transmits so you need to look for a line with Modulation1 and (01) again further down the document. The next line down is Modulation2 and has (02) instead of (01). Each line under Modulation2 has a number in brackets in the same column as the (01) and (02). These lines have the CC numbers that you can use on a vortex. I assume you are using the Vyzex App. For example, find the line with Sound Controller 5 (for Filter Cutoff control) and you will see the number in brackets is (74)... so set ribbon 1 in Vyzex as follows: MODE as CC, next line as 74, Min as 0, Max as 127, MIDI CHANNEL as 1... now ribbon 1 will control the Filter Cutoff for the sound patch on channel 1. Sound Controller 1 to 10 are CC number 70 to 79. Sorry it's a long explanation...

Do you need any extra equipment? Does it necessarily need and audio interface or laptop or amp? Thanks in advance !
@IbandUK Жыл бұрын
@holydatingadvice101 Hi, the vortex wireless 2 is a midi controller, which means it does not have any sounds of its own. So it needs to connected to a sound source that is midi compatible, like a midi synth, midi piano, midi sound module or a to a music app on a computer or a smartphone. Computers and smartphones usually have a built in soundcard, so you don't usually need an audio interface but sometimes they generate a better quality sound. Usually an amp is only required if you intend playing with other musicians or to an audience.

Coud I connect it to my MOXF6 to produce sounds, instead of mac or pc? thank you in advance
@IbandUK3 жыл бұрын
Anil Sahin Hi, to connect it to a MOXF6 you need some extra gear as the vortex wireless dongle wont work in the usb port as it is not a midi usb host port (unless Yamaha have made a firmware upgrade I'm not aware of). You could simply use a midi din cable plugged into the vortex midi din out socket and into the MOXF6 midi din in socket. Or for a wireless connection you could use a Kenton midi usb host by plugging the vortex dongle into the kenton's usb port and connecting the kenton midi din out socket to the MOXF6 midi din in socket with a midi din cable... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmrcpZecjLOVj80 Or, use two CME Widi Master wireless midi kits. One plugged into the vortex midi din out socket and the other plugged into the MOXF6 midi din in and out sockets (needs to be connected to midi din out to be powered)... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpCZfHuHr994rrs

My understanding is that the Vortex gets its sound from a computer. How is the sound amplified if you were playing with a band? I'm assuming that the amplification has to come from the sound source - the computer and not from the Vortex. If that is so, how do connect a computer to a keyboard amp?
@IbandUK3 жыл бұрын
Scott Carpenter Hi, the Vortex wireless 2 is a midi controller, so you connect it to a computer or a synth for the sound source. The vortex comes with a free download of music software (ableton live lite) that you install on your computer. This music software provides the sounds for the vortex. If you computer has a good sound card then the sound from the music software can be sent to your computer's soundcard and you can use a stereo cable to connect your computer's headphones socket to a keyboard amp. Alternatively, you can use an audio interface. The audio interface connects to your computer using a USB cable and is like an external sound card, the audio interface has line level outputs that are suitable for connecting to a keyboard amp (using an audio cable). Personally, I use a Zoom u22 audio interface but any audio interface should do.
@scottcarpenter63053 жыл бұрын
@@IbandUK WOW,,...,that sounds complicated! I didn't know that there is a cable that can fit into both a headphone jack on one end and a 1/4" in the other end to plug into an amp.

@IbandUK28 күн бұрын
@sebapaun7896 P01 is the normal message displayed on the screen (it means preset 1 is currently selected). Flashing LEDs is how the vortex tells you the batteries need replacing when they do not have enough power to operate the vortex. Personally, I connect a powerbank to the USB port (using the USB cable) and switch the Vortex to USB on the power switch.

Sustain is one of the few standardised midi commands so CC# 64 should sustain the sound on all synths

@@IbandUK Hi, I would especially need the solo that I am playing on Kronos with the CX3 - hammond sound and I have assigned a Laslie foot pedal there, how could I do that on Vortex?
@IbandUK4 жыл бұрын
ROMAN GRICH Ok, according to the Korg Kronos voice list CX-3 is C054 and according to a handy chart I found, that's MSB 0 and LSB 2, so setting up a pad as Program Change with Program as 54, MSB as 0 and LSB as 2 on the Vortex should do it. The User Bank A is MSB 0 and LSB 8, so if you have created your own sound patch (say with assignments) in User Bank A then Program is the the Voice Number in the Bank, MSB is 0 and LSB is 8. You can link the Vortex to Kronos Controls, like the foot switch with a CC# command (CC# 82 - as stated on page 296 of the Kronos manual) but I don't see a way to send a command from the Vortex to do the actual assignments. Hopefully I have understood your question correctly with this answer.

which is the best software to use the vortex 2?
@IbandUK4 жыл бұрын
asdasd asdasd Hi, thanks for your question. I've done setup videos for quite a few DAWs on my channel and the Vortex worked well with all of them but I would say my prefered DAW to use with the Vortex wireless 2 for live performances is Ableton Live (which assume is what most people use the Vortex wireless 2 for). The Vortex wireless 2 ships with an Ableton Live Lite download license, which is a restricted version of Ableton Live but can be almost as good, with a bit of imagination, for live performances too. The Vortex also ships with download licences for some virtual synths that have a good range of sound options for the Vortex to use. The best virtual synths for the Vortex depend rather more on what sounds you want to play.

@IbandUK4 жыл бұрын
Hi Zeynel, according to the Korg Pa4x manual, you should be able to plug the Vortex Wireless Dongle straight into the USB Host slot on the back of the Pa4x. If you use the Kenton midi USB host, plug the vortex wireless Dongle into the USB slot and connect only a midi din cable from the Kenton midi din out to the midi din in on the Pa4x. You can play the keys straight away but you will need to set up the faders in the vortex preset editor, and possibly the ribbons, tilt and pads too. If the vortex starts playing odd notes by itself, update the firmware by downloading the latest firmware for the Vortex Wireless 2 from the alesis website..
