There is something about the RG550 and dimarzio's that just do it for me! I have a old 1987 RG550 in white with a set of PAF pro's and i love that guitar as much as my LP goldtop. it just will do any style i throw at it.

Hey nice setup! I have a 89 rg550 and i need to change the pickups. What do you suggest? Oh, by the way i tried the combo JB - 59 on this guitar. They were clearer, 59 wasnt bad at all but Jb didnt impressed me alot. I think i need a more vintage sound overall. I love Andy Timmons tone and these pickups were too far from it. I should try dimarzio next

Nice, I love how the older RGs feel and sound. Really depends on so many things. What style of music do you play?

@@guitarist6494 I dont really play high gain stuff anymore. Im looking for good clean sound and a distorted sound that doesnt compress too much. I like alot the sound of single coil in the middle. I was thinking of tone zone and maybe paf pro. Tnx for the fast reply!
@guitarist64944 жыл бұрын
The tone zone is very heavy on the bass (and apparently quite compressed) so unless you’ve got a maple fretboard to balance out the tone I personally wouldn’t go for a tone zone. Any PAF pickup is great for that type of sound (clean tones and not too much high gain style of playing). I’d personally go with another PAF pickup in the bridge but that’s just me. Go with whatever you want!

Any Chance you can do a Video on how you set up your Guitar, String height, neck relief etc...
@guitarist64947 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking about making a similar video where I go through all my guitars and recording gear and give some description of them. Not sure if I'll go into that much detail where I talk about string height & neck relief, as I never worry about that too much. I know it's important but I have all my guitars set-up by my local tech and just leave it at that. ...But I probably won't be making that video for a while yet just, still got a lot planned for now.

RG550 necks are finished, though they are known for staining and getting a lot of "finger tracks" embedded. I had to repair a crack (by the locking nut holes - classic 550...), so decided to refinish mine with Tru-Oil on the back, poly on the fret side. So in doing so, I can verify I had quite a bit of sanding to do to remove the factory finish AND clean off the "finger tracks" If carefully played and maintained, it isn't that hard to keep clean and new looking. I beat the crap out of mine and that's what I get for it 😁

I have also RG550, but it's so hard to play, it has had .10 strings and now i'm back on .9 . Still that is like fight against metal bar. Attack so weird that my fingers goes under the strings on bendings and have never happened before with any guitars. How many strings you have on the other side, what are they and how strong? This is exactly the type of sound I'm looking for when it sings so beautifully and still has some EVH attack but not too much black metal chord jamming.

Yes, Dimarzio strives to maintain that on the low strings, even my more modern sounding PAF pro's have twang on the low strings! :)

@@Murphy_R9 does the PAF master twang more than the PAF pro? I mean when overdriven, neck pickup.
@Murphy_R92 жыл бұрын
@@ibzmav Yes the PAF pro will be hotter and has more low end. IF you want a extremely accurate P.A.F and the most "twang" get the dimarzio PAF 59. These are "clones" of the old Gibson P.A.F.
