The more videos I watch, the more conflicted I become! First it was Super Distortions, then PAF Pro, then PAF Master, then Duncan Alnico II, then Duncan Seth Lovers, then Pearly Gates, then back to PAF Masters. I may have even considered Tone Rider Alnico IV pickups and even Duncan Saturday Night Specials as well as the Slash Signatures. I’m just looking for a set of pickups to liven up my Eastwood Esprit.

Its nice to see Paul back with the RG PGM, never really liked the fireman. By the way which pick up is in the middle? I know he doesnt use it in this video but I wonder which one would fit well with these humbuckers.
@LarryDiMarzio10 жыл бұрын
Hi, Paul’s guitar doesn’t have a switch position with the middle pickup on alone. The middle pickup is a single-coil designed specifically to work with the PAF Master in split mode. A True Velvet middle model (DP175S) is a good choice if your guitar is wired in the standard HSH format, with the middle pickup alone in position #3. Hope that helps, Larry DiMarzio
@nathanfrank4239 жыл бұрын
His Fireman comes with an Area 67 in the middle. I personally would go with an Area 61 ot a VV Heavy Blues 2 for more of a SRV sound when in pos 3.

Larry, I love the website and the pickup picker feature is great. If I could suggest another helpful feature I would suggest a pickup comparision. It would let people compare power, treble, mids, bass, and description side by side to choose between pickups they're considering. It would also let people get an idea for what pickups might go well together together such as a neck and bridge combinations that would suit their needs. Thanks for all that you guys do.

How can you not love Paul Gilbert. Even if you aren't a fan of shredders, or a fan of Paul's music, you have to admit he's a badass player and a helluva cool dude!
@McGuire406959 жыл бұрын
Tim Murphy Oh, I agree! I mean, I love his stuff, but most of the licks he was playing aren't like his "younger, shred days". Paul's playing is amazing, and I prefer the more "mellow" playing from him. Hell, Paul's playing in this video and Slash's style are my two biggest influences.

Pickup Question for a H/S/S guitar -> I like medium output pickups, PAF style... Its my goto sound 90% of the time. I LOVE the "2" and "4" positions on strats, my other 10%. I never use middle coils, and rarely use neck pickups alone I am looking for a setup that would give my beefy rock tone, but splits well and the other pickups give it that "quack". Im looking more for "the Edge" type tones, not so much hendrix or SRV.
@nathanfrank4239 жыл бұрын
If you want Dimarzios 4 that I would recommend Area 67s for the singles and a Bluesbucker for the humbucker. The Bluesbucker just might be their best humbucker. I have it in both the neck and bridge of different guitars. PAF output. Most of the output comes from the screw coil so it sounds like a real strat single when split. And you can make it sound significantly brighter or darker by putting the screw coil closer or further away from the bridge.

Well...though I am quite surprised nobody was willing (or able) the answer your question, I just will: back than when this particular guitar was released (don´t remember the year) Paul had a piece of MOZART on one of his records. And that particular piece required a (you guessed it) HIGH F-Note....hence the 25th fret. You see...sometimes it´s that simple.
