I know that the orange RG 565 is almost identical to my yellow RG 550 (especially with stock pickups) but I want one anyway. This is because when it comes to guitar I don't make rational decisions. I miss living near a good guitar shop that does setups and lets you try before you buy. I order everything online now and almost every guitar needed some work.

Funny how the wife always says she loves a stiff knob - but that's a whole other story. In 1988 or 89 I bought an original lefty RG550 and it cost me something like $1300 CDN (huge money back then). I had to sell it a year later because I needed a car for a new job - but the (used) car only ended up costing me like $400 plus a 2400 baud modem. Never got that guitar back... such a shame.

I am contemplating doing the same. Got a new DY 550 Genesis which I love to death. And there’s an LTD MH1000 Deluxe (the new stainless steel frets version) hanging next to it…that I’m not sure I’ll keep. Might trade that one for a purple 550, or an emerald 565. Daft, as they’re the same more or less. But I love them… 😁👌

I'm 100% with you on the oldschool neck joint. I like it more than the All Access Neck Joint (AANJ). The neck feels more stable/stiff with the oldschool joint. I particularely like how deep the neck goes into the body and that there is no lip on the fretboard. The fretboard ends where the actual neck ends. This counters potential issues like a lifting/sinking fretboard. Yes, the AANJ offers better playability but the old neck joint is rather accessible to begin with. I also share your enthusiasm about the 550 Genesis. I have the Purple Neon version and I love it. It's the quintessential Ibanez RG.
@ACMusic2 жыл бұрын
The purple is so nice! I'd have definitely gone purple if I didn't already have the purple 3250!
@rentblop80702 жыл бұрын
@@ACMusic Is the 3250 a solid purple or is it flip flop like the 550-PN? The thing with the flip flop is: viewing it in certain angles reveals some "cloudiness" / blotches. Every Purple Neon finish has this and once you notice it you can't unsee it. It's hard to describe but you can even see it on the official product photos from Ibanez. It's not a big deal at all and doesn't take away from the stunning look but again, now I just can't unsee it. :D I still love the color, though. Having said that, I love the RF color just as much. I want one in that color, too. Especially after watching your videos with it. It looks sooooo good!

Nice video - thanks! I only found out about the Genesis series in my milestone age year. I'd bought a Jem Jr for myself and then I found out the RG550 was reissued. I admired the 550s since my early guitar years, so I had to get it (mine's in Desert Yellow). The heel joint is true to the original, but compared with modern designs it was like hitting a brick wall at those higher frets at first! I don't notice it now though. The only design flaw I do find on it is...the volume knob! I find mine is super smooth, which is nice, but like the classic Stratocaster, it suffers from the same problem of accidentally hitting on a downstroke and turning down. I guess every guitar has their own idiosyncrasies, but for me the volume knob is the one on this model. I kind of missed the 565 the first time round. I saw a video on the Genesis re-issue about a year and a half ago, someone else who always had their eye on one. You can always drop a different humbucker in the neck of the 565, like a ProTrack. Have a look at Joe Satriani's set-ups for inspiration!

Thanks for watching, pyra! Yes the joint is an acquired taste I think. I will definitely be changing the vol knob on the 565 though. I love that easy slick feel!

Though I've been a long time subscriber and a previous import Ibanez owner, I've never owned a Japanese Ibanez. I recently picked up a white RG 550 Genesis that was, of all places, at a pawn shop just down the street from me and I got it for half of retail. I couldn't pass it up. Skip to a couple months later and I literally am selling my most expensive guitar to get more Ibanez wizard Japanese guitars in my arsenal, lol. Genesis line is just phenomenal value for the money. It's basically a prestige with a little less polish on the fret ends (something I enjoy doing as needed anyway).

Hello Anthony, your comparison is not stupid at all, I went through the same experience and indecision when I had to choose between those two guitars in a store, and it was very difficult for me because as you say, they are very similar, only the configuration changes of the capsules, and after doing many tests in the store and annoying the sellers for hours, like an apparently indecisive stupid man, but deep down I am very detailed and perfectionist and I did not want to take the wrong guitar because it is the one that I will have for a long time. time and I will not want to regret it later, I chose the RG 565 because with the Chorus effect it has a better sound and intensity than the RG 550 in my opinion, I also found that the neck of the RG 565 guitar has a slightly better construction, and in this video What have you uploaded, let me tell you that you look much better doing solos with the RG 565, your hand seems to be doing better solos and in a more advanced and skillful way than with the red one, maybe it's because of the regulation or type of string The different on both guitars but this has been my appreciation, thank you and for me it is an intelligent video detailer.

Love both! You can put a pickup from Dimarzio's "track family": Cruiser and Fast Track 1 are single coil sounding and Chopper is thicker, like between a single coil and a humbucker. Or a Pro Track that is a Paf sounding single coil sized pickup (perhaps you don't want that by what you said). If you want examples, Andy Timmons has Cruisers in neck and middle and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal has a Chopper in the neck along with a Tone Zone in the bridge and no middle, pretty much what you want. Enjoy your Ibanez guitars!

Ironic, Most Indonesian Ibanez Premium today comes with stock Tone Zone / Air Norton , including the $800 Ibanez SEW761. I'm not hating the V8's , I had it on some of my guitars in the past, they're ok, but once you put a Tone Zone or a PAF in there, massive difference in nuances and feel, It's like there's a subtle wah going on. I'm GASsing over these re Issued GENESIS, I wished it came with DiMarzios though. But considering you'll have to spend almost $300 for a PuP upgrade made it harder for me to justify the entire cost. Got a Premium with stainless steel frets instead. The 2017 RG6PCMLTD model HSH with sock TZ /Velvet/ Air Norton, almost the same vein as the Genesis couldn't be anymore happier, snatched it for just $800 almost new because there is a high fret that the owner couldn't fix
@solidus3172 жыл бұрын
It’s kind of pick your poison on which high end feature you want stock for the money. While you get stock Dimarzio with the Premium, you also get the cheaper Chinese made Zero II trem. It’s consists of softer metals and will inevitably wear and need replacement where as most Original Edges are going strong 20+ years later. Genesis you get the Original Edge made by Gotoh in Japan that’s also featured on the higher end Prestige and J Custom models. Buying a new Edge Original and modifying the guitar to accept it will cost much more than upgrading pickups and that’s before we even touch upon the craftsmanship of the Japanese FujiGen factory. Premiums are cool for what they are but you are getting what you pay for.
