Great find! I also had a brand new SRX705 from 2002, here is my story: Pros: - It was extremely cool bass that time - 18 mm string spacing and the neck profile made it well playable. - Punchy pickups - It had good resonance and tonal character. Cons: - EQB2DX preamp was mediocre. - Frets were buzzing even after luthier setup. I found interesting that much part of frets has already been levelled factory new. I tried couple of other new Ibanez basses in the shop where I bought that SRX705 and I had the same feeling: buzzy necks everywhere, poor factory setup. After two years I rather switched to the Ibanez DWB35 model. Basically it had the same construction, same materials (veneers were bubinga instead of walnut), but the neck was thinner and it was equipped with EMG pus and custom eq. Despite the fact that it also came from the Korean Cort factory, it was a much more solid bass with seemingly better wood and build quality. In Europe, that quality difference is also reflected in used prices: DWB models held up well contrary to ordinary SRX models.

UPDATE: I sprung for the 705, and am glad I did. 4 hours of driving to Toronto and back home, plus about 2 weeks of slowly tweaking the bass into the correct setup (the previous owner had it tuned about 2 steps sharp and had never had it set up, neck was bowed like you wouldn't believe... good ol' F clamps & patience got her in place). Now I have her set up with D'Addario NYXL 45-130s, downtuned a half-step... the 34" scale means they're a little too low tension for my personal taste, might switch to sadowski blacks, BUT she sounds INCREDIBLE!!!! Highly recommend this bass, for anybody thinking about it. Thanks again for the demo, Lobster :)

are those pickups wired in series or parallel?

I think they were in series but I don't have the bass anymore

Those pickups are EMG shaped huh.... I wonder what that means...

Hehehe, that's an idea! This bass is already gone though, but perhaps a SRX project in the future haha

Dear Mr Lobster - question for you. We bassists tend to think "oh, this bass is good for metal and this bass is good for R&B and this is great for prog... oooh this is a VERSATILE bass" and on and on. But really, REALLY, honestly with some eq-ing and careful playing can't we get any well set up bass to work in any situation? Or is that rubbish? I'd love you to do a video where you actually show which of your basses works best in what musical application and why - honestly, that'd be hugely appreciated AND a good chance for you to show us your treasures!!!

Ibanez basses are a lot of bang for the buck, and they're designed to be playable no matter what level you're at. But the SR body style is really tired now, I wish they would adopt a more contemporary body shape.

I agree. I honestly liked the SRX with its flatter face as opposed to the heavy contours of the regular SR.

i bought a edb 605 about 15 years ago ,that cost about 4500 rmb at that time , string distant are too narrow for slapping ,then i bought a edb 604 ,cost 5000 rmb ,and the neck is too bowed ,couldn't have low action , so i felt regret about buying them , that money can buy 2 fender mim or a fender usa ,,,,,,,that was silly ,,,,,, i sold 605 at 2000 rmb 10 years later , trying to sell 604 once at 2000 rmb too , but body was broken in delivery and returned ,i have sanded 604 neck and cavity ,and surgery it using ab glue ,and could not have good action ,now 604 was abandoned and lying in my closet ,i think pickups and elctronics are still funktion now ,,,,maybe using them diy a cheap bass ,,,,,, silly me ,,,,,

Oh mannn..... the EDB600 was the third bass I ever owned... it was stinky and sounded blah. I do not have fond memories of that bass

Unfortunately, my personal experiences with Ibanez basses have been abysmal. I have found them to be fancy-lookin’ but cheesy, cheap-feeling, noodle-necked pieces of junk that move all over the place. They all got sold in short order. More left for the folks that dig ’em and no offense intended.

Thanks Sam! Mine have been... inconsistent. I love certain ones, but others have been flawed in design or execution. I thought the SRX was one of their more well executed lines IMO but I definitely understand how you feel.

Can you buy those pickups anywhere? I'd love to swap out my stock pickups on a cheapie Ibanez sr305.
