Hiii I personally like DX170 and DX320 the most sonically. Dx240 is a big improvement over dx170, similar to dx320, it is totally worth the upgrade if you already have expensive headphones and iems. If you don't have some really good iems or headphones, you could get dx170 and check out ibasso sr2 hesdphnss, which are rather spectacular

DX170 would be a bit upgrade from q1. V6 is similar to DX170. DX240 is similar in tuning and somewhat better than dx170.

Sonics alone, I prefer DX170, it is a bit better overall in detail and resolution, but differences are not dramatic. I think they have about the same warmth for the sound, DX170 maybe a bit smoother and more dynamic, which can make V6 seem warmer at first, but they are about equal in warmth.

I recently replaced my Onkyo dap with the 170. The balanced out was an absolute necessity; I can easily hear the difference. One thing you didn't discuss: implementation of micro sd card. The Onkyo was clunky because all the music on the cards were only accessible as a separate folder. My understanding is that implementation on the iBasso is seamless. Is this true?

Can you please experiment with wavelet, poweramp, etc. to eq the sound when listening to apple music? Or if there is a system wide eq can you test it to see if it works for streaming music? I only listen to apple music but I desperately need an eq for my Sundaras (bass boost). I'm tired of dongles. I want to use a dap.

Hiii, I really don't think any EQ works system wide with apple music. Especially for DAPs where the audio kernel is typically separated, it is complicated to find a good EQ that would work for it. Roon would maybe be an option, but I don't quite remmeber if it has apple music integration.

Hii, DX170 is much better than M300, and it is also better than V6. IF your budget allows, I would instead recommend iBasso DX260, right now it has been my daily DAP for a while

Thanks for the review. I bought one because of you. But I have a question. Do you have any test regarding bluetooth range? My wireless earbuds starts dying at around 20 feet which seems pathetic and is making me think that the unit I got is defective.

20 feet seems typical for the Bluetooth range. it is lower power than most smartphones for Bluetooth...

Good review, but you're not correct about bluetooth. For example, I have Momentum 4 which is aptXHD. With my iPhone, I can only use AAC. With DX170, I can actually use aptXHD which is much better sound quality.

What are you driving with them? I have both, M3 Ultra is a bit wider and more splashy sounding, DX170 is a bit warmer , more natural sounding, more dynamic. Software, they are both good, I'm more used to ibasso than shanling

@@AudiophileHeaven i listen to mostly metal so it would be nice to have something more geared towards that, battery life matters, and i use apple music a lot so that is also important

I do not have apple music to test which one supports it better, but battery life is about equal in practice, M3 Ultra slightly better. For metal music, if you like it thonk, with a lot of low end, and a smoother treble, DX170, while M3 Ultra sounds a bit more neutral, has more treble sparkle, but lower bass. I would generally go for DX170, slightly more dynamics and slightly more impact, also better driving power.

Hiii, in that situation I think I would get something like DX170 or even a simple DAC AMP and use it with a tablet where you'd have text to speech services for an easier navigation. No DAP has those as far as I know, but a tablet using tyhem as a DAC aMP should work pretty well

@@rockmusic8550 As far as i know yes. But you could get a dac Amp with an analogic volume wheel so you can feel it turning and get a good idea where the volume is. With DX 170 it is clicks and you don't know surely what volume your at usually . But it should work theoretically, I don't know with what adapters though

R6 Gen III sounds a bit more overdriven, more contrasty, while DX170 sounds smoother, more natural and more organic. Both are great. Get R6 Gen 3 for streaming, DX170 is faster for saved libraries

DX170 is awfully slow! It's like old androind phone from 2010. And it feels cheap. The sound is very energetiс indeed, but the interface is crazy slow!

Well, it ain't as fast as a 120 or 144Hz smartphone, but it is similar to any 60 Hz smartphone... Like say, HUAWEI P30 PRO , it is exactly the same thing in speed, so it is a limitation of the display more than anything I think. Most DAPs feel the same, you may want a smartphone + a DAC / AMP for a quciker experience.
