.....Sorry I wanted to say "oya" is also a commanding word it literally means "let's go!" This is different to Oya the sacred deity mighty river that is worshipped by the people that you correctly refer to as Oba Oya because she has mystical power as are also powerfully fierce. Her mythologic symbol is a fierce looking strong and powerful female holding an axe arm stretched out above her head in a striking pose depicting a strong sense against injustice

Santeria is the American term for what is Lukoumi, or Regla De Ocha....Don't forget Obatala, Yemeya, Oggun, Ibeji (twins) Shango, Obba.......I could go on. Always who's first and last is Ellegua, and NEVER put Oshun/Yemeya and Oya together like that (nor do you put Shango, and Oggun together (mine were sepatrated by a word at least, describing it to you)....You didn't know, and good observation!

Gives me Sevdaliza vibes, although I understand how people could associate Bjork with the vocals in the chorus. However, this is not Iranian or Icelandic, it's Yoruba. It's Afro-Cuban. It's their own culture and I love it. Unique and inspiring, makes me proud to be of Yoruba heritage.

I'm here from the tv series underground season 2. I fell in love with that song 3 years ago. In the series underground she was so tired of being a slave and ashamed of being forced to be the master sex slave to make her kids comfortable in slave life, and just the hardships of slave life to where she walked into the ocean with a heavy log to weigh her down and tried to commit suicide. That's when they song was saying take me oya. Such a powerful scene to and also heartbreaking. 👍👍👍👍

My brother who once lived on Earth asked me what this meant to me. This song spoke volumes of life to me, of what exists on this Earth exists because of me, and also because of everyone else, due to God, or in this case, Oya. The truth of life being that it’s special for each individual and each person is so important that when one person doesn’t do their part, societies collapse. That, brother, is what it means to me. Matheus Pinto Hi MAtheus you are totally right... It's only a simple reflection about your lines.. it's great that you've identified with this "ancestral" musical performance in which Ibeyi twins have evoked their great musical talent within a very deep and sensual ritual to Oya (as part of our Afro-Cuban believes and cultural traditions)... However, I don't know how or why the neophyte people still insist to saying the same bullshit, trying to compare OBEYI with Bjork. Come on, men. I think people must inform about they want talking before open their mouths to express so nonsense criterias. In fact, it's become a common big mistake try to compare the Obeyi's fantastic and original (and why not, so fresh vibe too) vocal tessitura with Bjork (who also is an excellent singer too)... I particularly hate this kind of cliche that always reins inside and around the "Occidental Critic Mentalities" when they try to compare them with something that they usually (sight over their shoulders) calling "the Rest of them" (It means "the Rest of The World" / as their Stupid Occidentals consciences have classified to someone who are not part of the select "First World Class... it means: British, Americans, Australians, Europeans, etc) as their typical and "standard" obsession to present "something new into the music market"...Simply, pathetic!!! By the way, I just want to refresh and let you know something that it could be useful next time. I'll give you a tip: 38 years ago, when no one knew this kind o music, SINTESIS (a Cuban progressive-rock band) started with this experimental process inserting Afro Cuban Ancestral lyrics + different musical elements fusion-ed with jazz, symphonic rock and Cuban rhythms and classical Music... This is the real begging from this kind of music..... Sorry MAtheus, But, of course, it's nothing personal against to you. OK?... Hope you understand my point. By the way, I'm letting you know that my dear friend MIGUEL ANGEL "ANGA" DIAZ (R.I.P.) (OBEYI's father, is considered as one of the greatest all-time percussionists and congas players ever. Also, he was a very deep connoisseur of Afro Cuban Religious Rhythms!!)

Beautiful song, it honors the goddess! Best of luck to you both in your journey. This song and River have helped me to find a deeper connection with Oshun and Oya. You ladies have blessed me and I'm sure many others.

I get really disturbed when BLACK Dominicans, BLACK Cubans, and BLACK Puerto Ricans say they aren't black. Who taught y'all self hate? I meet a Dominican girl who looked just like me, same texture hair, same skin tone just a tad lighter & look me in my face & say "I'm not black", with a stink face. If only these type of people knew how they looked denying their roots.

+Shut up I'm pretty About 50 years ago a girl my age told me that no she was not black she was Cuban. But it was very clear to me that she was being extremely proud of her Cubaness and in no way trying to hide her blackness. She knew what "color" she was (very dark and very beautiful), but didn't want me thinking she was American. It was pride in who she was and self love, just not love of Americans.

Asé oh , Oya guides and protects me .... the warrior goddess of the storms , winds , rains and cyclones and other winds of change . The door keeper to life and death. Goddess of tactics and warfare... the Greeks named her Athena... the Mesopotamian names her Ishtar and saw her as Venus star... i see Oya as the weather energy.... Oya oh 🔥🔥🔥🔥

The song is hypnotic... I wonder what she means with 'Take me Oya'... for the ATR community, that could mean take me to the land of the Egguns, and I sure don't want to go there right now. I like the song though, very hypnotic.

Love can make us feel so desperate.... I think thats what it means... i think it's sort of a love spell or a cry out. Not literally saying I wish to die... but instead reflecting the depth of the pain.

I love reading these comments and learning about their culture. African culture is one of the most interesting in my opinion. I know they’re Cuban but as a comment states Cuba is heavily influenced by African culture. Also this music video is astounding
