IBIZA SNAKE CRISIS

I catch up with Dean Gallagher, who's helping tackle the snake problem here in Ibiza. The horseshoe snake arrived on the island about 20 years ago, and since then, strategic trapping programs have been set up across Ibiza. These involve widespread traps with mice as bait. The real concern? Snakes are wiping out the native Ibizan lizard. As the lizard is a primary food source for the horseshoe snake, its population is now endangered due to the predator’s growing numbers. In my last video about snakes in Ibiza, Dean and I came across quite a few in the north of the island. But the problem's spreading-this latest snake was actually found much closer to Ibiza Town. Snakes are becoming a real issue here.

I seen a few by the town hall last week in the public, they have little holes to house them around that sneaks can’t fit in

I was in Ibiza last week. Ten years ago I would see lizards everywhere. This year I barely spotted one. 🙁

How did these snakes start populating in the first place? I’m assuming they were originally pets which escaped/freed and basically went from there?

They came in with imported olive and palm trees mainly from Morocco.

Living in Scotland I have never encountered anything bigger than a large dog…any animals I encounter…I always say hello Ma wee pal❤❤❤…when I come across any insects in my home they get the same welcome…God gave us the authority to trample on creatures…but it was not an order…it is a choice…Ma Wee Pal=76=Contact=Welcome=Humans=Master…Among Others❤🙏😇.

Had a lizard sitting on my bare ass for 10min on the nude beach......he found a high point for observation😊😊😊 Had the girls around me rolling in laughter......till it ran their way.......then just screams. 😂😂😂😂😂
