This was the most clear and comprehensive course on the various philosophical difference the ummah faces today and how Ibn Taymiyyah seemed to, through clear proofs and definitions, reconcile differences. At least this is one aspect of what I understood from the entire lecture. I especially love the takeaways, that we should assume the best of our opponents basically and not demonize them which seems to be so prevalent in debate circles.

So many upset Asharis and then they accuse "salafi" for having a save-sect-syndrom while they are actually the one with this syndrom. And when people say Asha'irah and Maturidiyyah are not from Ahlul Sunnah wal Jama'ah they start crying. However they are the first to say that Ibn Taymiyyah and his students were either Kuffar or Mubtadiah and outside of Ahlul Sunnah. Ashari's have also many extremist people in their community. If someone barely knows about those beliefs, they shouldn't watch this video in the first place and instead watch the basic first because lots of the points assumed prior knowledge else if this video was explained throughly it would've necessitated more than 100 videos because this is not a simple issue.

After the two hour mark, the sheikh mentions ibn Taymiya's idea about events without beginning. How is this idea different than ibn Rushd's rationalization of ibn Sina's idea of the eternality of the universe. As I understand it, ibn Rushd says God is eternally creating the universe. This was quite informative, but why complicate a simple concept like that? Tauheed is easy. We are only required to acknowledge that the Creator is One, and there's no way creation can comprehend everything about Him. We only know what He Himself has told us. The purpose of our creation is to recognize His Magnificene. Not to figure out what His hands look like n what does it mean that He ascends or descends the throne. This is beyond our scope n has nothing to do with the requirements of iman. God knows how many universes are out there that are full of the wonders of His creations that are nothing like us, but we want to fit Him into this tiny box of our very limited human understanding which is mostly based on our 5 senses. There is no way we can do that. Only He knows Who He is. Our job is to believe in Him n to work on developing a character that is reflective of His sifaat, n that's all that matters. May He have mercy on people and scholars who spend their lifetime worrying and debating about these irrelevant details. For simple laymen like myself, the knowledge that He made me n to Him is my return is all I need.

The Prophet (pbuh) said: My Ummah will never agree on error. He(pbuh) also said: "Verily, the Hand of Allah is with the united community, for Satan is with one who secedes from the community, running after him". The overwhelming body of scholars rejected Ibn Taymiyya's views. Sure, he repented towards the end of his life but whatever his mistakes were, it's better to keep it to the confines of academia and scholarship.

1:39:40 This whole thing is such a rediculous semantic argument... at the end of the day your interpreting things metaphorically just like the Asharis do. Its just a different articulation. This slide literally agrees with everything the Asharis claim. The issue is not affirmation or non-affirmation, its literal or metaphorical interpretation. As you said, due to the nature of language we are all forced to interpret it metaphorically, you just take an extra half mile and contort yourself into a pretzel in order to do so while still "not going outside the boundaries of what the salaf said." We all agree its just the way in which we articulate which is different.

It is the height of irony that ibn Taymiyyah considered himself an Athari. Atharis claim that creed (aqida) should be simple and should be the apparent meaning of the texts. Any Athari would be mortified if he had to resort to philosophy and hours of exposition to explain his position as they believe in the apparent meaning even if its anthromorphic. They have spent centuries criticizing others for using logic and they almost consider philosophy as blasphemy, when here comes their defender using philosophy to explain his positions!

@@amanthinks374 Imam In Hajar al-'Asqalâni (d. 852/1449) said, "The fame and renown of Shaykh Taqiy al-Deen as an imam is clearer than the sun, and giving him the title of Shaykh al-Islam in his era remains until our time upon the righteous tongues. It will continue tomorrow just as it was yesterday. No one refutes this but one who is ignorant of his lofty status or one who turns away from justice."

@@Khaldunii Ibn Hajar quotes several scholars with different stances on ibn Taymiyya in al Durar al Kamina. That sounds like him quoting someone else. Please post original source. Many scholars who held a balanced or favorable view of ibn Taymiyyah did so on the basis of many correct and beneficial things in his writings. However most of those who read him in detail acknowledge the gross errors he fell into. This is why many scholars feel only scholars should read his works as they can avoid the errors and benefit from the good.

Theology is the study of an invisible, unknowable being that is beyond human comprehension. Theologians write and lecture about the deity's gender, his qualities and what he expects from his creations.

I learn nothing After watching this series, i now fully understand why ibn taimiyyah regrets. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said at the end of his life: ”I regret losing most of my time in other than studying the meanings (or explanations) of the Qur’aan.” If you read my comment, then stay away from philosophy, or trying to refute philosophy, its not worth your time

Not your fault.. the speaker is doing huge mental gymnastics to defend the indefensible .. ibn Taymiyyah spent his life in enmity of Asharis and used philosophy to try to prove them wrong in the process digging holes for all those who try to follow him...

@@udaramalam7348 yes akhi but ibn taymiyyah was the first hanbali scholars who read the books of the asha'irah and the philosophers and refuted them. The Hanabilah usually just boycotted them and even forbid to read their books. So if you actually ready any Aqeedah Books of Ahlul Sunnah, its automatically a refutation against Jahmiyya, Mu'tazilah, Kullabiyah, Asha'irah and Maturidiyyah. Our scholars always wrote books for a reason. However the best who refuted the other Aqa'id was Sheikhul Islam ibn Taymiyyah. He read all books of the salaf and the philosophers. Noone did that before him. Allah chose him to bring back the aqeedah of ahlul sunnah wal jamaah, alhamdulillah.
