I mean Macau is also very interesting because od the European (Portuguese) influence you will find there. I mean, it was a Portuguese territory 20 years ago (it was handed over to China in 1999 exactly). And even if people don't really speak Portuguese (like 1% of the population speaks it) the sites are still very well preserved and Portuguese is still an official language. All streets signs are in Portuguese, there's local Portuguese newspappers, radio stations, schools... They still keep that legacy I guess as it is really a distinctive point for the city (and it didn't happen that long ago, really). And I really find this mix really wacky and something I'd be interested in seeing. I mean gambling is a HUGE thing in Macau but it goes beyond that if you go there as a tourist.

Like if someone in Britain says they're heading down to London, only in Dubai's case it's international. Hum, I wish you'd say "part of the Danish kingdom" instead of "part of Denmark" The difference is kind of like saying Scotland is part of the UK rather then that Scotland is part of England. The Danish Kingdom being a bit like the UK, while Denmark (the nation) is kind of like England.

Greenland kinda isn't trying to be independant, because they've stated that they are ok with being tied to the Danish Government, and have their own "country" status, as they are an independant teritory with much more priveleges than most territories. Although there are some people who want it to become independant, they're mostly situated on the northern(ish) west side where Denmark can't get to them quickly.

Or hey, there's a bus that goes across the bridge linking Hong Kong and Macau, perhaps you should take that. It's interesting because majority part of the bridge is administered by the PRC government and is part of chinese national highway, so even both Hong Kong and Macau drives on left side of the road, the bridge follows Right-Hand Drive traffic rules

At 12:09 when you mentioned Guam. The United States Of America got that from Spain after 1898 in the Spanish-American War along with Cuba, The Philippines, and Puerto Rico. But one thing I love about The Northern Mariana Islands is it's World War 2 History when under the Japanese Empire, They have allot of tanks, Japanese Flags, an d United States of America Flags represented on that island. But not to forget, some of the most gorgeous beaches you'll ever see as well as an incredible culture with super friendly people. Well worth it if you can afford going to either the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, or both.

@ibx2cat So about Northern Ireland been a province, as you showed us in black/blue and white, I sort of "understand" that... But I'm now wondering how a "province" can have a national football team playing international games against other nations for a spot in European Football Championship or a spot in the World Cup! Because I remember being in the National stadium seeing Denmark playing against Northern Ireland back in 1993, for at spot in 1994 World Cup [spoiler: none of the two teams advanced to the 1994 World Cup], and it wasn't because it was good match I remember this, but because we where seated in the mixed part of the stadium, and us four guys got to "party" with six guys from Northern Ireland, and even the fact that Denmark won 1-0 on home ground, we ten still "partied" on for the rest of the night in Copenhagen, and the only thing I was thinking was "Woow, this wouldn't had happened if it was England that Denmark just had won 1-0 over", so Northern Ireland have some fantastic and laid back fans... But okay, I've got sidetracked, back to where I was wondering how a "province" can have a national football team, so do you have any explanation of why this is so ??

Some provinces do have them; scotland, wales and the faroe islands for example do also have national teams. I think it's just something that FIFA decides.

"country" is not the requirement for a football team, if it was then "sovereign state" would be enforced, like how the UAE has a football team instead of Dubai The UK is a weird exception to the rules of football teams, with England and Scotland both historically having their own. Therefore Northern Ireland kind of "needs" its own to have representation, because you can't exactly have England + NI Also, as I understand it NI athletes can choose to compete for GB or Ireland at the olympics, so it gets more confusing in more sports

They do actually say that each "country" can only have one team, and a country is an "international state recognised by the international community". But there are a couple of exceptions. One is for dependent territories. They can have their own teams if the FA for their parent country agree to it. The other exception is specifically for the four "British Associations", allowing them to be members in their own right despite not being "countries" by FIFA's definition.

It is confusing with northern Ireland because they are there own country when they play football. Then again so is the faeroe islands. Still it can be kinda confusing.

That is because the "home nations" as they are called (NI, Scotland, England and Wales) football associations were separate (and still are) and they got together to codify the rules. This meant that as they were the only 'countries' playing each other they got to keep the separate 'nations', as these 4 have 4 of the 8 committee seats that make the rules.

(1:20) Old video, but a lot of people disagree that Scotland is a country. Because why would it? Basque calls itself a country, but I doubt you call it a country. The German "states" are countries, but you probably call them states for some weird reason. So it's easier to just call sovereign states as countries.
