So I'm actually the author of this mod - it was one that I originally made back in 2004, but it had a number of major bugs and issues with performance. I kind of disappeared from the scene for a while and then came back to try to do some work to at least make it playable. So this is the Special Edition released in 2008 which fixes the bugs and re-works a lot of stuff to fix issues, add features, and make use of GZDoom features. I don't do modding anymore - I planned a sequel for this set a couple hundred years in the future in the same universe, but life got in the way and I never did more than proof of concept stuff - but I'm glad to see people still playing and enjoying it. I had a lot of help in terms of playtesting, advice, and general feedback from the ZDoom community, which I'm very thankful for. Personally, I wish I had added a bit more variety to some of the areas (the barracks and staff housing are low points IMHO) and enemies, and balanced the difficulty a bit more. Still, overall I'm pretty happy with it and how it turned out. I was trying to do something more survival horror themed in Doom, and I hope I succeeded at least a bit! Mr. Icarus, this is an honor - I've actually seen your channel around and was wondering if you'd stumble on my mod! It makes me happy to see people discovering and enjoying it.

For those interested this mod seems to be based off an old US military base called "camp century" during the cold war located in Greenland. It was supposed to be a scientific research center built into the ice but was later discovered to be apart of and a cover for "project iceworm". The purpose of project iceworm was to increase the US nuclear missile posture against the USSR. Both are good reads and videos can be found on KZbin about them.

I do like how the mod places the player in a rather helpless role in a tried and true genre of demon/alien invasion. I mean, most of the time the player gets to be an incredible powerhouse of destruction for reasons that may or may not be provided. No BFG 9000, no HEV Suit, and no otherworldly powers. It's just the player and a handful of World War II era guns pitted against a foe they have little chance of defeating. It's really rather cool how broad the scope of Doom mods can be; there are plenty of mods that provide power fantasies and there plenty of mods like Cold as Hell that not only deviate from standard fare, but actually innovate on classic video game genres.

TayEdge Most of the footage showed the Thompson; however, at the end, there was some footage of a full-auto Garand alongside the BAR and Thompson. It had a distinctive ping when it ran dry.

(mod's creator here) There were technically some experimental select-fire Garands, which is the in-game justification. In terms of design, I wanted to add another powerful late game weapon to deal with some of the later fights without necessarily having a completely different weapon/ammo selection. So I came up with the idea of having a select fire M1 that the player could find that would give them an alternative to the semi-auto M1 and the BAR as far as high-power weapons. There's one of the select-fire M1's available, and you can find it in the weapon product/R&D area that opens up when you're gathering the stuff you need for the end-game section. I researched some of the select fire M1 variants to provide some in-world justification for the weapon.

If this was canon to Doom, I'd imagine it's a sort of first contact scenario, where after this situation gets out, the governments of the world are able to hold it for a bit, until the demons finally garner their strength enough to break out into the UAC base on Mars

Then you have stuff like Hideous Destructor... oh what "fun" it would be to see Icarus forced to play the mod with its "fans". does it have a cancerous community/fans? I would be surprised if that's the case. I'm not familiar with the mod except for knowing that it tries to be hardcore and realistic. A lot of hardcore and realistic games have really cancerous communities, like ArmA and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I love those games but I can't stand the majority of the community.

Also, as a random bit of trivia - one of the reasons the original CaH ran so poorly was the system used to spawn snow was horrible and inefficient. So I ended up writing a whole new set of modular code to do weather in ZDoom (this thing: www.doomworld.com/files/file/15443-jonnyfives-weatherfx/) that spawns snow locally around the player to keep the system from locking up - also, it makes building the levels a lot easier and lets the modder control things like density and speed.

Cold as Hell is one of my all-time favorite mods and I'm surprised it took you this long to do it given how old it is. I'm glad you enjoyed it too; was surprised you did, given you sometimes dislike things for requiring a bit of a slower pace than the usual Doom fare. ^^

There was a mafia doom long ago, it replaced the zombieman with a pre-rendered guy in a zoot suit that looked like he was made of plastic... that was it. It was going to be a TC but that was all they released.

The first time I've played doom i didn't know it was a mod I can't find this mod. Basically it's the same vanilla doom but it changed the sound effects all i can remember was pinkies while roaming around saying something like dick over and over, when you fired the shotgun said fuck you and many more sound effects that i can't remember (i was 4y/o) back in 94.i would appreciate if you can help me out. It's a GZDoom mode which does support floor-under-floor under some circumstances (tables and such, mostly) as well as using 3d models for chairs. The mod also uses some trickery for more complex architecture that simulates room-over-room (like the elevators that go into bunkers).

3D floors are old news. but that isn't 3D floors, the elevator just seamlessly teleports the player to another identical elevator in the middle of the trip

That's the stuff! It was actually kind of a pain in the ass to set up (to make sure textures lined up, lighting was consistent, etc.), but the ultimate effect was worth it!

Remember that this mod originally came out in 2004, around 16 years ago, and the final version came out in 2008, about 12 years ago. This is _very_ impressive for the time. 2004 was the time of Dues Vult, Hell Revealed 2, Claustrophobia: The Walls Close In, and Action Doom. 2008 was the time of Urban Brawl: Action Doom 2, Dues Vult II, Eternal Doom IV, and BGPA Missions: Liberation. While the remake on the GZDoom engine was less impressive when it was released in 2008, it still featured some novel concepts even then, and you have to keep in mind that it was still technically a 2004 mod, just one that had been fixed up to, you know, actually _run._

In this video and many of his other videos, the commentator uses a mod that changes the color of cacodemon blood to blue, and hell knight blood to green. Special Edition - the regular one is a broken, buggy mess now. I had developed it for a very specific version of ZDoom and it turned out to not play well with later versions... or most people's PCs. SE also adds tons of balancing and technical improvements, along with new graphics and effects.

In real life it was semi automatic, but there were prototypes (like the Springfield T44E1 rifle chambered in .30-06/7.62x63mm) loaded with box magazines that would later on become the M14 (chambered in .308/7.62x51mm)

The in-mod explanation is that it's a prototype M1 as part of the development of the M14. There's an M1 Garand you get earlier, but I wanted to add a fully automatic rifle using the same ammo that would give the player some more firepower in the tougher end-game sections. So I threw in this fully automatic M1 as an optional weapon. It's not exactly a secret (it's easy to find near the section leading to the final act), but it's kind of out of the way and not essential.
