Ice fishing 2014 (almost 2014) starts off really well with some very nice Northern Pike through the ice and just a great day on the lake here in Minnesota. Things get a little out of control so be warned there is a little profanity here and there but not bad. After the day on the ice you will get a graphic couple short clips of cleaning the fish, you have been warned. It was a GREAT DAY!!!

What dedication for a few fish. And all that equipment! Wow. I never knew you could even do this and I'm 85 yrs old now. I must have been living in a box. Some tough folks up there. These films are so good, quite professional. I love watching this guy go through life. Good luck to you.

Thanks SSGTJAB. I will be heading to Louisiana in a few weeks and will spend a while down there. I love the snow and ice but it gets old and I am looking forward to tossing a line in water that is not frozen as well lol. Im will have videos from down there as well and then be back up here ice fishing. I have more ice fishing videos to post, I have been out two more times so please stay tuned for those. Thanks again. nice fishing! i always hated getting my line cut off by pickerel here in nj. what i do is i have a leader of heavier line at the end of my line. i have 5 pound braid on all my reels, and a leader of 40 pound braid.i don't really get cut off anymore, but when the little bluefish are around in the summer they sometimes can shred even the heavier line pretty good.thankfully they aren't in lakes i go to.

a good method for ice fishing and not possibly losing your rig(like what could have happened when that big one tangled your lines and pulled the other line down the hole) is to set up a handline holder out of 1/2" to 3/4" plywood. just cut a rectangle shape about 6x15", cut out a 1x4" piece out of both short ends and finally make a slit on one of the wide sides nearly to the middle .this thing will never fall down the hole and will hold a lot of line if you're deep fishing. when fishing, just spool out as much line as you need and set your rig up, then just lay the holder over the hole and put your line in the slit so when the fish takes the line, the weight will be in the center of the holder rather than being on either end, giving the chance for the fish to drag and pull the holder into the hole length ways. been using this for years. we normally have these rigged with circle hooks so the fish hooks itself, giving you more time to catch the fish.

Hey Joe, Those are some nice size fish. If you bleed those fish right after catching them you would probably have snow white filets when you cleaned the fish. While I have almost no fresh water experience I do have 20+ years salt water fishing and bleeding always improves the taste.

Thanks for sharing your ice fishing with us. Great camera work! I would love to do this sometime. Question: Why don't you use a reel with your line to reel the fish in instead of hand over hand? You would avoid frustrating line tangles.

Have you ever froze your filets the frozen block of water way to seal all the air out, we put our walleye in a quart bag then fill 1/3 or so full of water the squeeze the air out and freeze laying flat then you get nice flat frozen slabs that taste fresh when you thaw em out? Just checking... Everybody has there own preference.
