I had the same relationship with my Dad that you seem to. Really fun, pretty ornery, some trash talk, and I too called my Dad “old man”. Seeing you hang with your Dad makes me a happy guy and reminds me of times when my Dad was still around. Really doesn’t matter at all if the fish aren’t biting. You are making some really IMPORTANT memories that will carry you through your life. Take it from me-that’s incredibly valuable stuff. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t give to fish with my old man just one more time. Thanks for a great video.

This is awesome! Some of my favorite times fishing was with my dad. He can't go anymore. Breaks my heart sometimes. Do this together as many times as you possibly can. There will come a day when you can't anymore, and it's an awful feeling when you're out there, and you miss him. When that happens, you can look back and remember some of your favorite times when you were fishing together. That tends to take the "edge" off :o)

So,I know this video is a year old or more. Never actually fished through the ice on a river. I do fish every winter for Catfish. 100% right, Catfish are much better out of cold water. I start freezing shad 2- 4 inches long about 20-40 in ziploc bags with no water. When ready to go fishing,throw a bag in warm water or just turn the heater on and put shad on the dash. They will unthaw on the trip to the lake (about 20 minutes). I rarely ever use cut baits in the winter. Just run the hook down from mouth to tail along the backbone and throw it out there. You might give it a try. Been watching your videos for quite some time, first time I've posted. Love your videos, please keep em coming!

The first 10 minutes of Casey's pizza is awesome. The next two hours suck. Maybe I eat too much haha. What were you traveling around for?
@MissionaryInMexico4 жыл бұрын
@@RiverCertified I was doing government contracting... traveling in-country for most of it from 2000 to 2008. That's when I found Casey's pizza. And come to think of it, the pizzas were so big and sometimes undercooked that I seem to remember having stomach trouble for a few hours after eating one. I've pretty much switched to 7-11 pizza 🍕 which is also $5, and slightly smaller and fully cooked, next to a Casey's pizza. I retired to Mexico and my friend in Santiago Chile has invited me to Patagonia for river trout fishing. I'm going, but in two months when it starts cooling off there. Who knows I might decide to move to Chile... If the trout fishing is good. Would you believe me if I told you I caught trout in a lake above Pachuca, Hidalgo state, in Mexico about 4 hours south of my house, up in a cool alpine zone... I caught 11, actually, in one day, and the others with me averaged 5 fish each. My friend who is a "very high-up" in the federal police in Mexico City, she cleaned and cooked the fish for us. What a treat. Because, 6 months without trout can cause depression. Enjoying your vids, glad to see you spending time with your dad. Do it all you can because my dad was taken from us by gun violence, and he was a widower 7 years before it happened. Cherish those days and hours with the parents! God bless.

I know the rivers and areas I trap I only try too walk over the places that are less than 3 feet deep and I’m pretty sure of it as I have been wading it with waders trapping all fall . And I also fish them . I remember where I’ve seen fish darting around and try and target those places if the ice is good . The eddies of that certain place we share also present great ice fishing . That electric auger is all sorts of neat. Be careful on that river ice. Many years ago now i went through and due to the current unfortunately came back up under the ice. Swept along under the ice for what seemed like an eternity until I hit a rocky shallow spot with thin enough ice I could force my way through. Left my auger and gear where they lay and made the long mile walk back to the truck in single digit temps. Been back on the ice a few times since but those memories of being under the ice just kinda took the enjoyment out of it.

We have a lake that gets like that over here. I'll hopefully find some time to hit it and do a catch and cook this winter!

How do you stop catfish from getting rubbery, I didn’t over cook it.

Was it frozen? I've never had that problem with fresh catfish

@@zacharythomas6134 weird. I have no idea. Might have been something with that particular fish or maybe that body of water. Id try a different cat from somewhere else.

@@RiverCertified ok, also my hook up ratio has been bad, I use the same rig as you but with circle hooks. I don’t set the hook I reel down like your supposed to with circle hooks.

Great video. Especially the father son deal. You could have just lit a stick off the buddy heater and lit your burner?! Oh well easy for the peanut gallery to chime in hey. Thx for the video.

Great vid. River ice can vary in depth very suddenly so be cautious. Don't dismiss the shallow water especially for cats. We catch cats in three feet of water alot of the times on minnows. Learned that by accident years ago. We mainly fish the steep ledges and alot of times there on top instead of bottom. Say hello to your dad. Great to see you guys enjoying the time together. And the food. Keep your powder dry young man 💪😎
