Ethan gave me a Fenwick rod with a Pfluger president reel last year during my first Ice season. I like it a ton and mostly used that all season. Looking to expand my horizons and try out more rods and reels, but need help with lures and how to fish them so yall should totally make that video haha. Thanks for all the info guys I appreciate it!

Tickle stick 27" UL with inline real. Most of my fishing is pan fish in depths 8 to 25 ft. Use 4lb monofilament and tungsten jig. Jig should have a minimum size 10 or 8 hooks. Metric sizes 4 to 5mm. Prefer a bigger gap for plastics. Usually use local bait manufacturer called BCBaits plastics. A plastic called the Teddy or Stinger and then add a magot or two. Rod has great sensitivity. Caught panfish, smallmouth , catfish, and walleye on it. But nothing bigger than 15"...yet.

You guys are the first I’ve heard to use smaller rods. Me personally I can’t stand anything below 24 inches. I have that 23 UL tickle stick and I only use it in my shack. Most of my rods are 30-34 inches. My go to panfish rod is a 30” noodle rod from Elliot rods. It might be because I’m a taller bigger person so the 30 inch range feels more natural to me

You're not alone, we are hearing more about this. I am 6'1" 225 and have never used a 30 plus in rod.... Maybe I'm missing out lol
@discgolfer1roc1412 жыл бұрын
All depends on where you are fishing. If you are in a shanty with limited space. Go with a shorter rod. But if you have the space. Go with the longer rod. I have room in my 3i eskimo. So I like having 28+ for pan fish. 32-42" for walleye/pike/lakers. The longer rods help fighting fish.

I was debating between the 23 and 27 inch UL Tickle Sticks. I called 13 fishing for advice. The 13 guy made a point.. a rod is a lever. Shorter levers offer more fighting power. I went with a 23" for my super hard fighting blue gills... Gotta watch that wrist strain.

28/29 inch rods are great, imo. Longer lever and more shock absorption. That surprise pike grabs your jig and you’ve got a 12 inch rod it’s basically your forearm and drag fighting that fish! I hear you on the shorter gives you more control but it’s probably superfluous, vis a vis the longer rod, for panfish.

I've been ice fishing for 30 years now and I'll say something about this the new guy like this guy's just get a Ugly GX2 or Ugly stick dock runner medium power 36"rod and switch the reel to ABU Garcia MAX Z size 10 reel or size 20 reel is My go to rod for most fishing but got the Big Smash medium heavy rod, Dip Sitck 39" medium, Dump Truck 45" medium heavy rod Mister Big 43"Heavy some of the one I use. The ZEBCO dock Demon 👿 for the guy's first year 26" medium light but ZEBCO has two kinds one 36" medium power the one I have from the 1999; works great still. You want sensitivity get a rod that stiffer thas all it is me love the fiberglass rods won't brake ezy on me. The graphite rod is great for bass not much for ice fishing 🎣🤔

New in ice fishing. What's behind UL , L, ML , M ....? IF I go for bass I want pretty strong back bone rod, my lure is big but light spoon .I want him play in water in time of sinking. So should I take UL for bass? Why not to do a test on rod tip for lure weight? Otherwise ul, l ,ml , m dosen't say nothing.

I am lucky enough to live where I can drive less than 50 miles and choose between about 300 lakes. I can be catching 10" perch and on that same body of water hook up with a 36" pike or 40" Makinaw...26"Walleye...I mean it is all here. I need a rod at about 36" that will have the sensitivity to detect a Walleye bite but while fishing for Walleye it needs the backbone to handle a 25+ pound Walleye or 40"pike. I can only fit about 6 rods in my load out. I fish depths of up to 100 feet with lures up to an ounce do i want too much? I looked at one rod that i thought ticked my boxes... but 160$...
@MedicinalAngler3 жыл бұрын
I think you guys have it backwards why are you getting smaller rods. I started15 years ago with 24" rod before that just a stick. i now have over 20 ice rods and I don't even touch any of the ones under 32" although I do go for a lot more walleye, whitefish and lakers . my go to rod is a streamside 42" medium fast paired with a 2000size reel. my next upgrade will be to a frostbite rod, would love the whole series their designed by ice fishermen for ice fishermen they're all bigger not smaller rods, the run and gun rod is 50" . in all Paul said it right it is all about the action of the rod. I just use ultralights and fast action for pan fish. So if you guys like the inline reels have either of you thought of getting a baitcaster ice rod?
@aaanglers3 жыл бұрын
Interesting... And your targeting Panfish? I've not seen that from anyone around me before, but I'll look into it

@@aaanglers i live in Canada between two of the best perching lakes in Ontario. usually I'd be on the one by next weekend perchin until i can get out for the bigger walleye and laker's but the ice isn't co-operating. but yeah i use a 36" ML with a very fast tip when out for perch my friend uses the same but 32" baitcaster rod. the longer rod also allows the use of lighter line i use 8lb max main line and as light as 4lb 2' leader

I dont agree at all with ur point on a long rod being for noob anglers there benifits for any angler to use a longer rod outways a short one fish dont stay pinned nearly as well on a short rod need the length to play them better
