Look for large muddy flat where mayflies larva comes out out of the mud. Usually mud flat in the main basin of some lakes all the jumbo perch will roam all over the flat. Where I am I do fish them in 22ft of water in Mississippi Lake in Canada. Have a look at navionic charts to get an idea. You can also have a look at Simcoe Lake in Canada to get an idea... completely different lake... very popular for jumbos.

I love perch fishing.....I live in Iowa, so we don't get to do much of it. My father in law has been to South Dakota and over to Big Stone many times.....mainly to go after the bigger perch. Our local lake is starting to have an upswing in perch (thanks to lake improvements years ago). I usually catch nice ones while we are walleye fishing....and we put them back, because we want the population to get better. Great video......looked like your dog was snacking on minnows on the ice, haha. My in-laws had one that had a lab that had a bad habit of doing that......gave her really bad gas, so the ride home from the lake was interesting, haha.

When I was a kid somebody told my grandpa while we were fishing in a deep Pennsylvania trout lake, "Perch are in the walleye family." My grandpa said. "No. Walleye are in the perch family." Grandpa was right again.

Perch fishing is my favorite. Only been doing it through the ice two years and i've already caught a 1.3 pound 14 incher and a TUB 1.7 pound TWELVE INCH... Ontario has some of the best perch fishing in terms of quantity and quality!!! (Those two fish are still pretty unheard of in my area in terms of sheer weight other than lake ontario, even out of the really large lake i caught it out of. But there are jumbo perch (12+ Slabs) abound for those skilled enough to catch them)

Perch is the best. Bleed them out and don’t over rinse them and definitely don’t soak them in salt water or lime or lemon or anything for that matter. There meat has a hint of sweetness. Catch. Bleed out. Clean. Cook. Eat. Yum.
