Matt - always love watching you fish.... no matter what style you're showing. Cascade looks beautiful, but I don't know that I'd have the nerve to go that far out onto the ice. But I'd love to catch a batch of those Perch you're hauling in !!! Well Done!! Keep the video's coming. When Spring comes around, I'm looking forward to you demonstrating the Crawdad Rapala near the shore style again.... that looks like my cup of tea!!

So from my research....looks like no live bait there then? Just plastics. Also is it a catch n release only? From all the videos ive seen no one has kept them. Which is a good thing...man they're massive lol. Thanks! @@OLDHATOUTDOORS
@OLDHATOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
@@SaskFisher No live bait in Idaho. It's not catch and release. Actually there is no limit and fish and game has repeatedly stated that angler harvest has relatively no impact on the perch fishery. There are just THAT many perch in there. Pretty crazy.

@@OLDHATOUTDOORS thanks a lot! Thats just insanity lol. I’m so jealous. I’m talking to my buddy for next year if he wants to come there with me. If there’s that many…. Love to do a catch n cook then! I’ll watch more of your vids when I get a chance. Nice to meet you!

I really appreciate that you are willing to share info about your setup (depth, jigs, bait, etc). I’m curious about the shrimp meat that you use…is it just the frozen stuff you can get from the grocery store? Do you brine it or add any flavor or just take the shell off and slap a chunk on the hook?
@OLDHATOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
You can buy it frozen or at the deli. Just cooked shrimp is all.

Great video...looks pretty sketchy still, hopefully some cold weather comes soon. Love the looks of those rods, they don't look like the same ones you linked to in your description, can you elaborate on those. I thought about one of those ION to have to not worry about gas...how does that battery last out there, how many holes along with the cold are you able to get out of it? Thanks in advance for any info...always trying to up my game on the ice fishing front.
@OLDHATOUTDOORS Жыл бұрын
I may have put the wrong rod link in the description. Honestly, most of my perch rods are nothing special (as in nothing new). Passed down from my father and they're just fun to take out. Regarding the ION, it's new to me and I was only cutting through 4" of ice so not much of a test. However I purposely left it outside in the cold all night to see how it would run the next day and it still fired up and seemed to have plenty of power.

@@OLDHATOUTDOORS you know how tough it is getting hands on any decent rods down here in the treasure valley because they are all big box stores. Do you have any advice for what sort of structure you are looking for/what places you are looking for on topo maps? I use iBoating for my cascade map but am not really sure what I'm supposed to be targeting. I went today and tried two different drop offs and all we found were dinks and a trout.
@OLDHATOUTDOORS10 ай бұрын
I like fishing the flats or “benches” near deeper water. For example Friday I fished in 15’ of water but 75 yards away it was 30’. Once you’re on one of those benches there really isn’t much structure but the fish seem to be cruising along there eating other perch.
