That "stud" is what we considered a keeper in the 80's. Threw anything less back, but that lake has changed a great deal since zebra mussels got into it. The perch were always much harder to find than the walleye, (no electronics) but if you got into them, it was a good day. Nice vid. Miss that lake.

@ @ thanks! Sorry i get excited when i catch any perch over 10” no matter where i am 😂 I’ve heard a lot of story’s from the 80s and early 90s. Not sure if we’ll ever get back to those numbers but it’s definitely improving.

I have only open water fished Winnebago in the past and I look forward to getting out there and fishing through the ice. Driving around hole hopping and jigging looks like a blast, but nailing down a hotspot and camping for the day is always the best! Bago is a fish factory! Good video! 👍🏼🎣

Yes, I think the whitebass numbers are the up swing. Last week it was like that just 1 day for me, but could not get a hit on the bare hook and minnow, clown rap was good for me. Went back out the next day same spot and never caught a one had to move again. Agree they are huge this year!

@@DWSOutdoors could be a possibility but i honestly don’t think the Bago system ever really runs low on forage. The fish just follow it so sometimes they end up in places you’d never think to look. Either way, lots of fantastic fishing to be had this year!

@@jerlor45 most of what we fish on Lake Winnebago is featureless. Best thing you can do is go out with a group of buddies and move move move till you land on fish. Most days it’s not uncommon to fish 20-30 spots. Fish just roam in schools out in the mud flats 16-18’ of water

I have the stainless steel guides which are nice and easy to get ice build up off. The recoil guides would be even easier and more indestructible, just depends how much you want to spend.

@@CNCoutdoors A properly set drag will give line when a big fish runs to prevent a break off. A bluegill or perch should never ever break you off. So if your drag is properly set, it should never need to give line on a bluegill or perch but will for a walleye/pike/burbot/muskie.
