I watched this nodding my head the entire time. I don't think mine leaked the first time, but even when it functions perfectly, the amount of ice is paltry. I think they say it can replace 7 (some ads said 10) trays by the NUMBER of cubes made in three batches, not volume of ice! haha. Of course the cubes are tiny! Good job Cathy.

The Ice Genie has got to be the silliest contraption I've ever seen. Five years ago I bought ice cube trays similar to the ones shown on this video. They were 2 for 99-cents at the 99 Cent Store, and they work like a charm. It only takes a couple twists of the tray for the cubes to be released. The Ice Genie infomercial makes it seem like removing cubes from regular ol' ice trays is nearly impossible. That's not the case at all.

I agree!

I agree too! "Silly" is the perfect word for the Ice Genie. I'm sticking with my humble dollar store ice cube trays. These trays provide good sized ice cubes, which usually release easily. If they are being difficult, just let the tray sit on the counter for a minute or two. Not a big problem. Making ice cubes shouldn't be a complicated hassle. KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid.

A little warm water and easy-peasy! (That's for regular ice trays.) Those cubes are waaaaaay too small, silicone bar cube trays are the waaaaaay to go if you are an ice-head and used with a thermal bottle, you can have cold drinks - with the ice still solid 24hrs later!

I bought one of those silicone iceball makers that's supposed to make 2 1/2 inch iceballs but when you set the top half of the iceball maker over the bottom half and fill it with a TINY funnel through the small 4 holes on top of the iceball maker it leaks in between and forms a thick layer of ice between and connects the iceballs together instead of having separate balls of ice. Even though it does make iceballs you'll have to chip off the rest of the connecting ice to free the iceballs...I put it up and never used it again.Maybe one day I'll think of something to use it for other than what it was intended for.

I am copying and pasting my comment from a previously viewed vid. Have added a few insights here to this one. This thing does work.!! Very well, in fact.!! This ice mold makes the perfect sized and shaped ice for 'White Russians', my preferred drink, and works as good as any ice tray. It is just a step or 2 up in technology from previous 1 piece ice molds and not immediately appreciated. It is as simple as: Step 1 insert clear sleeve into blue sleeve Step-2 fill 40 hemispherical grid pattern mold volume with water Step-3 put on lid Step-4 place in freezer Step-5 remove ice and replace clear sleeve, place ice 'hemis' in inner storage volume Step-6 repeat until inner storage is full The following is a step by step, explanation of the above 6 steps: 1-place blue outer container on flat stable surface 2-insert clear inner sleeve into blue part with '3 evenly spaced tabs' end first Top end is identified by two thumb grips for use later. 3-press down firmly on thumb grips on clear sleeve until bottom of inner sleeve (clear cylinder) is fully pressed into the sealing rings molded into the bottom inner diameter of the blue sleeve. Note: the bottom of the clear cylinder with the 3 tabs does not seal against the bottom of the blue cylinder. It is sealing between the clear cylinder and the molded in seal rings at the bottom of the blue cylinder. 4-take lid, note 3 internal holding tabs for locking to the outer blue body, push down over top rim of the blue outer cylinder until 3 internal lid tabs 'pop' over blue container top rim, locking unit together, keeping bottom water seal intact. 5-Fill outer 'ice ball' molds with water, takes very little. inner large space takes no water and is designed into the unit for use when crushing the ice for disassembly after freezing. 6-place in freezer until frozen 7-remove from freezer and squeeze entire assembly gently to 'crack' the mold. disassemble and remove ice. This unit is like traveling 100 yards to a well for a cup of water. Not much return on investment, but may provide a quick turn around if you are making 'White Russians'. UPDATE: just took it out of the freezer. It worked great. Larger inner volume is for storing the ice as you make more and more.

This is the 2nd review I've seen for this, 1st one didn't have as much of an issue with the leaking, but the only use I see for this would be to make cubed ice for coolers, which my boyfriend makes using old storage containers or empty washed out sour cream, type containers then fill them with water, put them in the freezer then when done pops them out and puts them in the cooler instead of bag ice - he does this because it lasts way longer than bag ice, he does for his week long trip in the middle of July which is typically our (Indiana) hottest part of Summer, and the ice lasts him all week, even when it melts it stays freezing cold, often when he gets back and I'm empty out coolers I'm tossing still have frozen chunks of ice into the sink but for that price I'd still stick with reusing cottage cheese, sour cream type containers lol

That’s a great idea! I guess I need to start saving my containers. Thanks!

Thanks for the excellent review Cathy. That had to be a very frustrating one since there doesn't seem to be any redeeming qualities to it. Also a lot of work for basically nothing. The little bit of ice you got in one batch wasn't enough for one drink. It would take a week to have enough for any practical purpose. Best use looks like for the wine bottle but even that wouldn't keep it cold for long. Only other thing I can think of is to use it as a mold (without the inner part) for a giant cube to float in a punch bowl or drink dispenser. Or let the kids use it at the beach to build sand castles. Basically a $24.95 solution to a $1 problem.

@donapedersen31816 жыл бұрын
2¢ Chicks, there are different sizes, one type of model takes about the size of a stand mixer and one bigger takes up more the size of a bread maker. There are many different brands but seem like they are manufactured in the same place. I had one that I liked but it started to act up, which was the smaller model. I purchased another larger one. It made the same amount of ice but held more and didn’t have to be filled as often. The bigger model which was an Igloo I bought after that was less finicky. You’d have to use one to know what I’m talking about but the ice is worth the small aggravation. There is an ice maker that is really expensive that supposedly makes Sonic ice. Much different model than the more common ones.

Add $75 and get yourself an electric ice maker. They are all pretty much the same. They generally last about a year +/-, but so worth it and you have to buy another one. All the ice you want, every day, all day long. Can't beat it. Cleaning it out once a week, however, is mandatory. Use a spray bottle of white vinegar, remove the little filter thingy and clean, wipe down with a sponge, rinse with the spray nozzle and back in business. Make ice and throw it in the freezer in a storage bag. Bang it on the counter. . . poof. . . use for Cosmos, Maragritas, Ice Tea, Smoothies, Snow Cones, etc.

Tray = 12 oz. Thingie=4 0z. It holds 3 fixings. 3 × 4 = 12. Same amount. You would need to store bbn several fixings in something else to accumulate enough ice. It should still take up less space. Try making flavored cubes i.e. make Coca Cola cubes to out into your Coke.

THINK ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A ICE BUCKET" IN CENTER. NOT A OPEN CYLINDER TYPE INSERT.. THER ARE TABS SO BOTTOM LID IS MISSSING.. ( THINKIN..?) A FREEZER... CAN HANDLE FREEZING ABOUT 2" ALL WAY AROUND PRETTY EASILY .. SO THAT PART SHOULD BE GOOD.. .... I STACK S/S BOWLS INSIDE EACH OTHER AN FREEZING (FASTER..)W OVER INCH WATER IN EACH...
@jamie5146 жыл бұрын
Before you showed the bumps on the bottom of the insert, I was gonna comment that maybe the blue material is too flexible so when you fought to get the lid on is when it leaked. Looks like just really bad design. I’ve seen ice trays with the small half-sphere shapes like that at dollar stores tho so theres that :)
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
Yes, a very bad design! I went to my dollar store looking for ice cube tray and they didn’t have any! Lol

Bummer. I just saw the video on this yesterday and was thinking of asking you to review it because I was thinking of getting it, well that wont be happening now.

For some weird reason I thought it might actually work. Silly me! Lol

Oh I would have been so frustrated with that thing too. What a joke that is , right? Can you take it back, I would. Pricey too. I watched the commercial, and I gotta say, I dont see where they get that it replaces 7 trays of ice either lol. You said you buy sonic ice? Do you mean the drive in sonic???
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
I might look into returning it but I would have to pay for shipping I’m sure. Yes I do mean the sonic drive in, sorry about that.
@sshhh26 жыл бұрын
Hey would this product work better if you turned it upside down when freezing ? Means it wouldn’t leak at the bottom that way ? Just a thought.
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to try that! Thanks

While I am NOT endorsing the following, it worked for my buddy. He carefully, using an X-acto knife, removed the three nubs at the bottom. According to him, it now works great, but like YOU discovered, the capacity claims are false advertising. It is a piece of junk.
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I did think about doing that, but for $24.95 I shouldn’t have to. But now that I’m stuck with it I just might try it. Thanks!

2¢ Chicks ORRrrrr... what little-ol-me would do, if I had channel like yours, is once a month, I would either have a 'give away' for the fans, or offer to sell for half price. Hey_ I'm just sayin'.

You should do the no spill chill. Also you should do a day in the life vlog, that night be interesting. Good video.
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
Someone else mentioned that, but I heard it was discontinued. As for a day in a life vlog, it would probably put you to sleep. LOL Our lives are not that exciting. However, in Oct we our going on a cruise have we have talked about vlogging a little on the cruise.

Thanks for the review. Seen a few reviews on the Ice Genie and you are not the only one that had that trouble. I call that product a piece of c**p. Waste of money!!

Yeah, I dont see how it could sit flush on the bottom with those tabs. So w/o being able to see the insts, which you are more than intelligent enough to follow them, it doesnt look like ya did anything wrong. I was feeling bad for your getting frustrated! Clearly wasnt worth it, and plz let us know you got your RA nr fm their Cust Svc for your refund!

🇬🇧 - I have bought this as a present for my dad, we currently have a white silicone traditional, big & small ice cube tray which we have to wrestle the cubes out - tend to stick to the sides and now has a crack in one corner and a chip in one of the cube moulds, as a result of the wrestling and age of it. 🧐 In case of this ice Genie, if there are not slots for the tabs on the bottom of the inner sleeve I’ll sand the tabs off to make it flat myself 😉

I watched the video of it after watching your and the insert doesn't look the same as yours, yours looks like it has handles on the side and the product video one doesn't? maybe that's one of the problems, wrong insert?
@stitch-xx2oo6 жыл бұрын
Sorry it didn't work... I'm hope you got your money back?
@THATHATSALLFOLKS6 жыл бұрын
would have made sense to have the inner part be a cup,not a tube that snapped in place so the water/cubes would freeze on the outside. then when done break them up.. fill the cup with the new cubes then start your next ones by filling outside with water again..BUT...NOOOOOOOO

love the review I kind of knew it was "shit" lol from watching freaking reviews, but my question is what do you mix with your Rum Chata , I'm a bartender and people always ask, I say coffee or rootbeer because that the most requested
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
LOL good eye! I don’t mix it, I just shoot it. I have heard of people mixing it with Fireball.

I hadn’t heard of it until I saw the latest Aldi circular tonight, where they have it for $9.99. Sounds like a clever idea, but what a POS! Not worth 99¢! Thank you for being our guinea pig. Great review. Sorry you lost the $25 plus whatever the Jello costs.

I really like the name, it reminds me of another genie product. Let me think... Oh yeah, the diaper genie. Perhaps they could combine purposes called the frozen diaper genie, it could make ice cubes and preserve those stinky diapers until you have time to throw them out.
