As a new hockey fan it’s amazing to learn shifts happen so frequently. Crazy

And it is very very depending on the age, level of hockey and amount of team focus. Rolling back to back shifts at max tempo, jumping the boards, entering through the nearest entry (Defense don' t HAVE to enter on the defensive side door for example) ... there are soo many nuances. Minor hockey can get into an organized rhythym, but frankly one really bad line change can lose you the game. In fact a bad line change just lost an Overtime Stanley cup playoff game. Two true rules for success though really are, the player on the bench KNOWING and WATCHING the player they are replacing and changing when our team have puck possession are basically core behaviours.

Exactly what I was looking for. Such an amazing and overlooked part of hockey. Thank you

Glad you liked it -- there are certainly exceptions to the rules above, and even more advanced topics like jumping the boards and "Not" going on to avoid an offside until the puck has re-entered a zone, but hopefully folks share some of their tips and wisdom in the comments here too.

My beer league team sucks at changes. This video was very helpful.

There are certainly lots of variations on the nitty gritty guidleines here (level and capability based ... jumping the boards, entering/exiting from the other doot, but pretty much changing when your team controls the puck is pretty much a cardinal rule to strive for in my experience)

You need some better markers, homie.

Thanks for the feedback - I took a shot at updating them (I actually think they were autogenerated). Again I appreciate the comment. Have a great one!

@@kalsorcwow I mean your board markers :) everything else looks great! But I also think it could just be your writing style. It looks like you kinda use the marker like a calligraphy pen, haha. Hope you’re well!

@@Southboundpachyderm ROFL ... if you have ever played minor hockey, then you should know coaches NEVER have good whiteboard markers ... :P

@@kalsorcwow haha I only played a few years of rec when I was a kid, but I definitely know the struggle to find markers that work and clean white boards lol. Unfortunately no one ever really took the time to teach me my position or how to score or anything so I pretty much just got bullied out of the sport. Didn’t help that i wasn’t a super jocky type kid either and had never worn a pair of skates until I was 13 lol. I always worked harder than everyone else on the team, think I managed to get one goal in my 6 years of playing and it got taken back because of the old crease rules that no one uses anymore lol. Though now that I’m turning 30 and just finished losing over 100 pounds I’m trying to go join a beer league (helps that I actually understand the game a lot more now) . I enjoy your videos and have learned a good deal. Thanks for uploading!
