I wonder why otters like ice so much. It's not like their habitat is in the arctic. Funny how it's such a consistent thing they love.

One of the care takers has a KZbin channel called wine and wins and she said that it helps keep their teeth clean. Otters in the wild is their teeth to open up shells and other hard stuff so the ice is simulating that for them.

They have an extremely high metabolic rate and the ice is cooling

These are northern sea otters, though, so they live in the water off the coasts of Alaska, British Columbia, and Washington. Those are not warm waters. In Alaska, they can get as low as 35° F (1.67 ° C), which is almost freezing. And heat loss in water occurs 27x faster than heat loss in air at the same temperature. So they are built for cold.
