jbutterz it definitely is, I used to have a beater GMC s15 Jimmy i used to haul parts. It came with a 4cyl and 5spd manual and every winter when the roads were slick but plowed I would take it on the back roads and ice drift for hrs. Its such a different experience than drifting on asphalt, you don't need or want speed really because its such a fine line between being in control and losing grip all the way around and spinning like a top. You can get some pretty crazy angle too because the rear just doesn't want to grip or push the front like normal.

Oh woah we do this all the time in Canada!! No studs either but not because they’re illegal, just cause they make the track bumpy apparently. We also do ice races with motorbikes and rally’s with cars that are held about once a week by our local rally club.

Modern studless winter tires are basically as good as studded in 80% of situations. All of our taxis in our company use studless winter tires and I would be using studless myself on my BMW if it hadn't come with few month old studded tires. regards a taxi driver from Finland
