Ice machine with multiple problems

Little tip, if you get a display that isn't responding and/or shows a bunch of odd characters across it like $$$ or ??? All across it, reach back and unplug then plug the display back in. It's worked several times for me, a couple units are going on 3 years now

Hi Chris, I recently work on my first quiet cube IY1874C-161 and it has been an butt kicker. It freeze it ok on both evap. My pressure on low side and high side are within specs. I had recovered everything out and weight the factory charge of 15 LSB in today But it doing the same thing The problem was my left side evap would harvest and my right side evap never did. My question is should the right side evap (the one with the ice thickness probe) drop ice first. And, then the left side evap (the one which the curtain switch drop right after. I have brought a senior tech with me today and he condemned the harvest valve on the right side evap. And we will order the harvest valve and filter drier to replace it. I hope that is the issue because i have been out there 4 times. 1st time clean, 2nd times replace ice thickness probe. 3rd time replace T3, T4 sensor, 4 times recovered the charge and weight in 15 Lsb of factory charge I hope u read this and reply. Thank you sir.

ive had multiple issues with those displays. Typically ive found the display wont respond when you press the buttons and the display just displays a bunch of random characters.

Si senhor Mexican music, I’ve been working on a Manitowoc self contained ID1402A3-263 again Freeze pressures within range but in harvest my low pressures are a little too low 80-90/High150 also this is an air assist ice machine and one of the compressors is not running during harvest, basically to brake the the vacuum between metal and ice I believe; and I noticed that the temperature from one of the hot gas valves doesn’t even reach 100•f during harvest to help release the ice off the Evaporator, on the touch pad display when in harvest also says that only one gas valve has power the other one doesn’t but I check power (208-230v) and there is power on both hot gas valves when in Harvest , does any one has any idea what’s going on ‘HELP’. I love this trade and I’m not giving up on this Ice Machine I’ll fix it don’t matter how many trips I’ll have to take to this business and how people look at me when they see me come back to work on their Ice Machine, I’ll fix it Thanks in Advance

I have a question. I have never heard of a cool vapor valve. Is this set-up unique to Manitowoc ice machines? Our cafeteria at my jobsite uses Hoshizaki machines. I would think the TXV would go straight into the evaporator with of course a hot gas bypass line that bypasses the TXV for the harvest of ice. I don't understand the purpose of this control. Can you explain the cool vapor valve a little more? Thanks.

The cool vapor valve does the same thing as a hot gas defrost except it uses cool vapor off the top of the receiver instead of Hot Gas from the discharge lines. I'm pretty sure Manitowoc is the only ice manufacturer using it right now, and they only do this on their Quietcube Ice machines which are remote machines where the compressor is on the roof and the evaporator section only has a receiver and txvs in it. Manitowoc also makes a traditional remote machine that uses normal hot gas defrost.

had a question I wanted to ask a refrigeration guy, I been doing commercial industrial hvac for my pops for 5 years now, but have been wanting to do more refrigeration which is what my uncle does strictly restaurant refrigeration, anyways when I ask both of them about there opinion they tell me I'm nuts for wanting to leave industrial and go to refrigeration if cheap customers and dirty equipment doesn't bother me would u recommend I make the switch

So I like restaurants but I typically do work on chain restaurants. Only a few small mom and pops. The work is definetly smaller equipment and the kitchens can be dirty and greasy. I've never done heavy industrial, 35 tons is the biggest AC I work on.
