Nice Lex. Strangely, I have only had three Refrigerator work orders this summer. I talked one Property Manager into buying 2 new refrigerators, and I sold a used refurb refrigerator to a different PM; a Section 8 slum lord. The same slum lord has just gave me an order for a used electric range. I like to sell those but I stay away from used gas kitchen stoves. The liability on used gas stoves is horrendous. The missing back of the refrigerator... One of the hardest things for a perfectionist to learn in this business, it that you have to often walk on by damages, missing parts and repairs that you can easily do, but don't have an order, or won't get paid for taking care of it. Especially if it's an expensive, "pre-approval" type repair. I have one, (of my three) Property Manager clients, who will pay me for anything I decide to do on his properties (144 rent houses), he trusts my judgement. But, I am very careful not to abuse his trust. My old mentor, Chester, told me years ago... "Look, we ain't building the Taj Mahal."

I can imagine just the tiny grain of minerals holding that valve seat open a little. Ohms would be fine, continuity would be fine, but its a physical problem with the valve. That there is a pattern failure

Great job on the repair! I saw you ran a continuity test on the old inlet valve the electronics still work but the mechanical part is shot i see. That was interesting because I would have ran the test and said the valve is good. I have to keep in mind that continuity test don't tell the whole story.

Not all the time is it the water valve. Some that have the water filters built in will do the same when not changed out. That is a simple ice maker and your Diagnosis is 100% right.

Think all the ohms would really tell you would be that the coil was either shorted or open. Could be something that caused damage to the waterway letting a small amount of water slip by. Thanks for the video. Had a similar problem with the cold water dispenser on my in-laws fridge. Found a video that showed using a syringe and small tube to inject some hot water into the spigot till it freed up. I looked like a hero. 😂😂😂 My own fridge has had this video’s problem for years. Going to see if I have the same problem. No more buying bags of ice. 😂😂😂

I've had this happen multiple times. Most times I have found the inlet tube was pushed into the ice maker too far and that causes the water to stay in the tube long enough to freeze. I always use the tubes with the top cut out as it doesn't allow this. Edit* are your refrigerators not on a dedicated circuit?

Lol the back of my fridge doesn't have the cover anymore either. Movers broke it when moving but the fridge is shoved uo against the wall dosnt seem to affect it at all. With uce makers with ice i the tube its almost never the icemaker. I need another fill valve on my ice maker it has started buzzing when it takes on water still makes ice thoug.

Usually the valve gets minerals in it, causing it not to close all the way, thus getting the leak through. If it was a bad solenoid, you wouldn’t have any water at all, because it wouldn’t open. Good vid, skid. Edit: I wrote this about 20 seconds before you explained pretty much the same thing 😂

Sounds like you have a bad fill valve solenoid. It's in the back bottom of fridge where the water line goes. Turn water off and replace it.

That damn pipe going through the back also can get ice around it to where it doesn't pull out and then you are stuck with a pipe partially pulled out with ice preventing it from going back in. You're way is the way to do it. For sure!!

Hi Lex, Just replaced the valve and plugged back in. Now there is no power to ice maker. Tried the text probes and then the harness. Searched for a wiring diagram and it looks like it is powered by a thermostat. I read in a manual that it could take up to 24 hours for a new install to come on. Could it take that long after a repair? Thanks.

Love the vids skid I got the same ge fridges had a few that froze and the setting was on the coldest let it melt and adjusted the setting and never had any issue after but I have had to replace the inlet

I use peg board, keeps the cats from hiding there after scratching cheap thin cardboard off. I use the cardboard it came with as a template to line up the screwholes. Darn cats, always have to stay a step ahead of them.

It keeps the dirt and dust out. I've seen some without it and it gets disgusting in there. The dust builds up on fan motor and blades back there and sucks the life out of them.

If I were to guess the ice maker calls for water. If the valve below is faulty it won't open to allow water to come to the ice maker. The valve is directly connected to the water supply and feeds into the ice maker above.
