My husband and I were returning to Tennessee from Florida on Friday night (01/06/17) on I 20 near Birmingham. There was an accident ahead of us that we couldn't see, but the traffic was forced to stop. That's when the roadway froze over and we were stuck. We sat on I 20 for 16 hours before they finally allowed the traffic to clear. Imagine 16 hours in a car that's stuck on an icy road, with half a tank of gas, with temperatures at around 15 degrees! We were stuck in what seemed like a remote area, between exits, from 8:30 p.m. until around 12:00 noon the next day (Saturday). Thank God there was also a stranded Greyhound bus behind us and the driver was kind enough to let me use the restroom on board. It was horrible for us, but I can't imagine how bad it must have been for the elderly or young children, or people who may have run out of gas, who were also stuck on that roadway. Also, there was NO INFORMATION on the local radio stations to let us know what was going on. When the sun finally came up the next morning, we saw police and military vehicles travelling on the other side of the road. The police car went back and forth on the westbound lanes several times, but still NO INFORMATION. Alabama, you need to do a better job. People could have died out there!!

In a situation like that, this is when they should use the EMS alert, and put out a text message to every cellphone in that area, much like how they do with Amber Alerts. That would be a quick way to relay information.

Yeah I can't believe that they made you guys sit in your cars in that cold of weather for that long when you could've run out of gas at any point!

I am a simple man, I hear James Spann, I begin looking for tornados. Where are the tornados?

They're not on this video. This was winter weather.

If you ever find yourself on black ice, which I have, get over to the grass - at least you won’t slide. My car was sliding at zero MPH with the brakes applied. I eased over to the grass and had traction, if only to sit there out of traffic and wait for the salt trucks.

I’m in Wisconsin and know exactly what it is, Alabama however, doesn’t have the salt trucks to improve this or plows to clear snow on the few occasions they get it
@rainers.20804 жыл бұрын
Wow! It gets that cold in Alabama? I had no idea.
@tylerjerabek52042 жыл бұрын
Plus the fact they have no salt trucks or anything to help improve the road conditions

I cringe every time James starts talking "milk and bread", and this is why.
