Thanks so much! This fixed a problem we’d been dealing with for years now. We’ve had mountains of ice regularly build up in the bottom of our freezer. We’d have to break it up every once in a while so the door would fully close. The bottom drawer got busted by the ice long ago. An appliance repair guy told us we just need to replace the fridge. Draining the drain line as you showed fixed it. There was a lot a gunk clogging it. Anyway you saved us thousands of dollars. Thanks!

Fantastic! Thanks for this. I fixed our fridge with this. I should say it works for Samsung RSG5DUMH as well although the back is a bit different (has a fan in the panel and it plugs into the back) it works. You just need to get the hole pipe (I'm guessing about 15-20 cm) until the exit defrosted. So better to put hot water and take it out back when it's cooled down with a simple pipette and repeat until it unblocks. Cheers!

If I had seen this video, I could have saved a lot of $ - Very easy to do and fix. My problem was that I did not know how the water was coming inside freezer -didn't know a panel in back wall was removable.

I get it. It's not a great design by Samsung. Many, many people have this issue and sometimes it can be reoccuring. I still own this fridge, but I'm pretty sure it will be my last Samsung, because now all of the LED lights are going out on the touch screen. The quality of this fridge is very much lacking. Best of luck on your future use of this product and hopefully now you won't have to make any more service calls and can do it yourself.

A good and useful item I use to defrost drain lines in refrigerators is I use a steamer I got from orchard supply with the protruding spout. It gets in there real good and you can usually blast out the ice pretty quick. And you can hear the pitch change as it's going which is kinda satisfying. If you don't have 1 or don't wanna buy 1, a turkey blaster can force the hot water in there and pressure helps too.

Thank you, great video! My drain did not drain after melting the ice so I had to blow air back thru the drain from the rear drain outlet up into the freezer. I used an old bike tire tube and cut it at the leak and used a pipe clamp to attached one end to the drain behind the fridge and clamped the other end closed and then pumped it up with a tire pump and air started bubbling at the condensate drain pan inside the freezer and eventually cleared out as I pumped more air. There must have been calcium/lime sediment that caused the initial blockage and then the water froze. Thanks again for the video!

MC Fit IT I have the same refrigerator you have, not a very good one:( I had this issue 3yrs ago after 350.00$ repairman came out , it did it again. It began a few days ago I watched your video which is excellent!!! I cleaned out the back vacuumed the coils cleaned the tube gross like yours, full of water, will that be enough to fix the problem. I hesitate to take the back off( lack of confidence doing it :) I didn't have a lot of ice on the bottom I put a towel to catch the water that was dripping down ? If I keep the fridge off overnight and use a hot blow dryer to blow on the front could it help melt the ice. I just did it a few minutes and heard some crackle noise. Appreciate your input thank you.
@MCFIXIT2 жыл бұрын
Yes, no power overnight and with a blow dryer should take care of the problem. Make sure to keep the door open. Not a big fan of this fridge at all. I’m staying away from this brand but honesty most brands today are not built to last

@@MCFIXIT thank you for responding to me your video is excellent. I cleaned the tube in the back yesterday and vacuum the coils . this morning for 7 hrs I unplug the refrigerator .I took the back off and used my blow dryer and very hot water and got rid of the ice. Hopefully I didn't over do it I used the dryer all over to make sure so there be no water moisture. Since I did it backwards the tube first yesterday and the inside to day (I got brave:) Is it necessary to do the tube again? Thank you for your input

It shouldn’t be. If it continues to be an issues I’ve read that you might need a new defrost element. That’s what you can kind of see when you take everything off!

Hi MC Fix It. I have the exact same Samsung fridge model and a year after cleaning out the defrost drain, replacing the drain clip, and clearing the drain tubes in back of the fridge, I am having the same issue again almost every day now. Have you or anyone else found a more permanent solution (if one was found)? If so, could you please share what you did here? Other people have suggested replacing the temperature sensor, or the evaporator/defrost heater, or the refrigerator door seal. Thanks!

Hello! Sounds like you have a defrost line issues but it’s hard to tell without being there in person.

Thanks for the video! Moral of the story - NEVER EVER BUY ANY SAMSUNG PRODUCTS! WE'VE HAD TWO DIFFERENT SAMSUNG REFRIGERATORS, A SIDE-BY-SIDE, & A FRENCH DOOR MODEL. THEY BOTH SUCK BC OF ISSUES LIKE THIS. OUR $1600 SMART WASHER WAS THE DUMBEST PURCHASE WE EVER MADE. IT NEVER REALLY CLEANED OUR CLOTHES & WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH IT DEVELOPED THE INFAMOUS SAMSUNG MOLD ISSUE.

I've had some luck with their TVs and computer monitors. But I have heard many not satisfied with their appliances. I'm not sure I would buy another one. Many appliances are made cheap today and do not hold up like many of the previous models. We had a Maytag "smart" washer and ended up going back to our original one that was not high efficient but worked sooo much better. I'm glad I didn't sell or have the metal scrapper guy near pick up the old one. Have a good one.

LG washer presented accumulation of residue beneath the basket and gave off the same tell tell bouquet. My Sammy fridge is leaking as indicated. Gonna take this DIY approach to attempt a fix.

hi MC FIX IT this same Samsung refrigerator in this video , there is ice building up on top behind the back panel ? what to do or is this more than I can repair and need a new refrigerator ?
@MCFIXIT3 ай бұрын
Where at on the back panel? You may need a new defrost line. They aren’t super expensive (less than $200) and it’s a doable project but takes a bit more time than this repair.
@GeorgiaLyons3 ай бұрын
@@MCFIXIT Thank you so much for responding to me. Yes on the back top of panel ice was forming on the outer. I got a hairdryer melted as best as I could . I only was able to do the last repair from your great video we had the exact same refrigerator. The Samsung is 10 yrs old, lots of dissatisfied customers that own a Samsung, I think I'll take my 200$ towards a whirlpool no bells and whistles no ice maker with thermostats knobs i can control refrigerator. 🙂

After doing this does this reset my ice maker or how long does it take to have ice again?
@MCFIXIT Жыл бұрын
There is no need to reset. I have not needed to redo this since I recorded.

I cut the end of that white V tube so the water would drain out & not freeze in there, but the freezer still has to be de-iced with your method about once a year. Mine has a top fridge and freezer under & it's an absolute b&^%$^%d to work on, I'll buy a different brand next time!

Earned it all out and within a month bottom was frozen thick again , floor was wet. Had emptied drain pan last time. Does the seal on the door need replaced?
@MCFIXIT Жыл бұрын
It’s probably your defrost line. It’s that thin metal that raps around the aluminum and comes near to touching the bottom vent. I’ve actually just done this but haven’t had the time to edit it. I’ll try to get it posted as soon as I can.

Thanks for the tip. I go back and forth on how long and in depth to make videos. Some like every screw taken out while others like which ones to take out. Thanks for giving me feedback! Maybe I need to the quick overview and then a full length in-depth one. What would you think about that?

@@MCFIXIT - Cheers Bro. Sounds good. Just speaking from my experience (at the watching end), I urgently need to address my freezer as its pissing on the floor, really need a quick summary vid but appreciate that's a tall order and its somewhere in between. Thanks for the video! I did all of this 2 months ago and it's now frozen up again. At this point do you recommend adjusting the freezer temperature up some? Could the issue be a faulty defrost timer or something else you think? thx!!
@MCFIXIT3 жыл бұрын
Does your door even not seal properly? Like: Kids leaving door open? Too full and it doesn’t seal properly? Or maybe a faulty seal due to a bad or broken seal? Doing it often is not a good thing bc it can ruin food if temperature is not kept properly. You could definitely try turning the temperature down a bit and see if that helps as well.

Does this issue effect the ice maker from making ice and freezing food solid?

No it doesn’t cause that in my experience. It was more of just ice forming and being annoying more than anything.

But why is it doing this? Is it that defroster that goes around the coils? Did it on the fridge side.
@MCFIXIT8 күн бұрын
Yeah, the defrost is behind the freezer on mine. I think it’s a design flaw that’s causing it. I’ve never had anything like this go wrong on the fridge side.

UPDATE: Followed you VIdeo, took me about 1.25 hours. Trying to use hot water to clear the tube once all the frozen ice in the bottom hidden tray got clear. After 20 mins of using hair dryer, I ended up going to the back. I do believe I could have save at least half hour by just going to the back. That little white drip cap was clogged. Not frozen. I do now think it is a good idea to go to the back anyway just to clear all the Dust Bunnies! THANKS for your time, instructions, and the uploading of this video.
