After 2 weeks of "meh" I'm jazzed we've gotten a thrilling episode! There's TONS of cool stuff going on in this episode, from Faunus jail, Bashful Klein, keeping the sillies "pure" and ruby's inceptioning, Lets dive in!

I will say one of my favorite bits from the episode is how we don’t see Jaune’s “fight” against negative Weiss, it just cuts and he and Pyrrha are being put back in the cage, we didn’t need to see how it went down because it was a forgone conclusion.

1:26 While I did indeed watch Digimon, and the Pokémon scene with the tentacrule. The thing is the Attack on Titan still fits best because there dealing with Giant humans. The Digimon and Pokémon are more like Kaiju so it doesn’t work as well. However I would accept “Honey I Blew up the kids.” 1:50 Nice someone else noticed the thing Weiss makes her dad say. Still kinda sad. 2:14 Interesting enough, my own fantasy head cannon story for RWBY had Weiss fight her father in his own Armor Gigas in a climatic fight. So sweet to see it here. 2:37 Kinda have to disagree with you on the semblance Retcon bit. Yes, Weiss technically doesn’t have the ability to use her Gliphs to telliport. But technically nether does she have the ability to turn buildings into a giant robot, make huge storms, or turn a statue into a armor gigas. But then again this is a dream. Weiss can pretty much do whatever she imagines herself doing. It doesn’t have to follow real world logic. 5:08 Ah yes, power scaling. Something we never get proper in the actual RWBY show. Quite a thing isn’t it? 6:08 The place were Weiss has apparently put all the Faunus has me really interested. Is it just going to be white fang there? Or will we get other Faunus as well like Velvet, or Sun, and if so what would they look like? Is Blake going to have to fight a nightmare version of Adam in Weiss’s dream? The possibility’s! 4:35 O.K. So apparently the big fancy sword is supposed to be the Immunity that Jaune is supposed to have that keeps him undirected to the nightmare. That’s why because it’s still stuck in the train it can act as a safe Haven from the grimm. It’s not supposed to be his regular look in the dream. Don’t ask me why it takes the form of a big fancy sword. 6:22 I also really appreciate this actual growth and questioning herself Ruby does. It shoes so much we normally never see in the show as they usually just stay the corse. 6:27 Not going to lie, I got major Evengelion ending vibes when everyone just showed up and clapped for Ruby. Over all this was a great episode. Things have gotten really dark and dire, and it’s going to be interesting to see we’re it all goes. Saving Ruby, saving Weiss, Blake’s trip into the Faunus cage, and finally taking down the nightmare. I feel like the child Weiss and Dream Pyrrha are going to play a significant part. And maybe they’ll have to fight the nightmare after it takes over the Big Nicolas Mech. The Inception edit at the end was just perfect! 👍

The teleportation thing i dont really see as a recon but more as you said earlier. Its her dream so uts obvious that she gonna be stronger, i see her semblance as a extension of that. Her semblance cant do that at all but in this setting it can kinda like how weiss somehow made a big storm cloud outta nowhere

Jaune’s presence is still weird to me, because it’s not like he’s actively making the show worse, but he isn’t doing a whole lot to make it better either. It’s kinda like if I was eating a chocolate cake and someone gave me a bowl of m&ms. The m&ms are nice and all, but I’m eating a chocolate cake. It’s more of the same, just needlessly extra. It’s not bad, but why have it?

@@thejudgmentalcritter6584 The best thing I can think of is that he really just walked/ran there. With the path that team Ruby made, not closing behind them. And then he just used his skills as a past infected to track down where the team is. But yeah... The speed in which he got there, and the fact he doesn't look like he's having a allergic reaction- even though the nightmare is just beyond the door. Is a bit of an issue. The pacing of this and some of the other scenes is one of my biggest Irks in the entire series.

My god, the answer to making RWBY good was literally just "remove Miles Luna from the equation" It's so refreshing to see someone else's take on this show, especially someone that understands how to write compelling characters. If RWBY was a 4/10, Ice Queendom is an easy 7/10.

@@crystianvasconcelos1951 Kerry is the lead director, Kerry, Burnie, and Matt are executive producers, Laura Yates is the supervising producer, Joe Clary and Sean Hinz are the Co-Heads of studio. All of those jobs I would say qualify more as "Boss" over 1 of the writers. He's not even credited as Lead writer or anything.

The writers are in charge of the direction of the plot, but the directors are in charge of how that ploy actually gets shown to us. The producers dictate how much money they can or can't spend which can end up changing big details of the plot, or direction. The executives can change things on a whim to meet their standards if they wanted to. And above RT there's also Warner Bros who also can change things if they wanted to. The creative process is so involved and has so many people involved, that it's literally impossible to try and put all the blame or praise onto one person.

It's a bit weird. Some people are saying that the teleport this is an actual thing in the main series. Although since I stopped watching the main series I can't really agree or disagree about it. But considering how they have Jaune warp to Ruby. This might be the few times the anime was like "eh... Feck it." And yeah. I was not that satisfied with what the sword represented here. But with the few episodes left, still hoping it has another use that properly explains why Jaune has it.

I don't know if you've noticed it but in the episode jaune mentions how the nightmares vines can't get in the train because of the sword in the roof, so his giant sword is essentially a representation of his immunity from being infected before. I still think it's kinda weird to make it a giant weapon but it's not really like he can use it since it's so heavy so atleast there's some kind of drawback to it

The theory I keep hearing is that the sword is supposed to go to Pyrrha given her semblance and how much both Jeane and Weiss look up to her, possibly with the addition that it would've been one of Jean's relics if his team had had more difficulty getting at the nightmare

The more reviews I watch of these latter episodes the more I don't understand "jaune' s rules"; - Previous nightmare infection makes it so the new nightmare won't notice you/see you as a threat meanwhile he's been a direct target from every single enemy besides one robot in the fair ground area. - if his "immunity" is actually the fancy sword like viewers have said why is it more of a ward AoE than cloaking like Shion, the profesional nightmare hunter, described. - The closer he gets to the nightmare the worse his symptoms get, potentially fatal. Meanwhile he meets back up with ruby outside the auditorium aka one room away from the nightmare's core with no symptoms, not even a sniffle. - His leaving the train also makes no since we are shown the door used to escape the sillies fairground jail (the closest door to the train) was covered in thorns presumably when the nightmare chased jaune, pyrah and the 10 surviving baby wiess. I get that dreamworld writting allows for loopholes and grants leeway for "impossible" actions but the rules, logic and ability/action leaps in this are starting to be a bit too convenient.

@@ShahTalks was that proven? why did he have a relic sword AND the added cloak? and even if you could take your own relics into another persons nightmare, which again was not set up or implied to be a possibility by Shion, why did Weiss' perception effect the size of his relic making it unusable to him? also why can a nightmare destroy Weiss' relics but gets repelled by Juane's? The more points/questions like this that crop up the weaker the writing gets, the contradictions are becoming more bothersome.

Meanwhile the sword he always has was unaffected by HIS perception he didn't expect having the second sword (or the cape you seem to be ignoring). " it's manifestation of his immunity" his immunity was described as going "unnoticed" not an active nightmare repellent. "Also Shion didn't mention about the sword is because Shion doesn't what happens exactly in the dream" Shion would still know about taking ones own relic from a past infection into another's nightmare and they didn't say anything so quit making excuses and head canon/theory Show-dont-tell is an important tool in writing, yes, but you still need to TELL on occasion especially when you create a dream world and fail to establish most rules and still contradict what you have established multiple times.

When you mentioned the Dungeon McGuffin that makes the dungeon harder, I was distinctly reminded of the Keys in Warframe. Either for the Moon or the Derelict environment type, there are four different keys you can craft and hold that unlock hidden rooms with extra goodies, but they have sizable debuffs. Doesn't directly affect the dungeon, since it's a debuff straight to the player, but certainly makes those levels more difficult

Can we agree that RWBY shouldn't be the one to hold the relics. She just straight up drop two of the four relics and led them to being destroyed. I mean, seriously? Twice? For the McGuffin they need to save Weiss? It would have been better if the relic was just destroyed during combat or if Weiss specifically targeted it and caused it to be destroyed but this time around it was literally just carelessness both times. I'll stop my rant because it's legit frustrating me but other than that I'll agree. Crap nuggets hitting the fan this episode and this is likely my favorite thus far.

I personally enjoyed Ice Queendom a lot so far, especially how the characters actually get to be characters. And I'm looking forward to the next episodes. This episode was really neat overall, the only thing I kinda dislike is how Jaune(while already being a special snowflake) gets to be the one who explains Ruby what growing up is; not her older sister, not the seemingly mature Blake, not Pyrrha or Ren the "adults" of JNPR and not the teachers.. I mean it was just a small scene, but IQ makes the hate part of my love-hate relationship with Jaune stand out.

About the teleporting well Duh! It’s a dream and Weiss can do whatever she wants in it, remember she did start summoning until vol 3 and here she’s doing it now and perfectly. So i don’t see a problem here. It’s all her dream and the basic rule of dreams is the only limit is your imagination. Has nightmare on elm street 3 taught us nothing?! Also love that Evangelion reference at the end!

Something I was thinking about for a while is if I'll be able to take the English dub seriously. Specifically Weiss. Now, of course, I love Kara Eberle. She *is* Weiss, after all. She's Weiss' original voice actress and I've always enjoyed her performance. However, Ice Queendom Weiss isn't Kara's Weiss. This is Yoko Hikasa's Weiss, who is way more intimidating than we've ever seen Weiss in RWBY proper. And Kara really doesn't have an especially intimidating tone to her voice so I can't help but wonder if she'll be able to handle those moments believably in the dub. Hopefully she'll prove me wrong.

Honestly, Kara as Weiss is the only one I have no worries about. There's not a doubt in my mind Kara will absolutely crush it here! The one I'm more worried about is Lindsey voicing Ruby here. Lindsey's fine, but Ruby has a lot of soft, quiet moments in Ice Queendom, and I'm not sure how Lindsey will pull it off. But I'm hopeful!

Pretty sure Jaune had said the big sword was tied to the immunity he mentioned before, so it's not actually supposed to be his main weapon reimagined. As for how he got there I kinda figured it was a combination of the town's on lock down so nobody is really patrolling it, they made a map of where everything was for the final push, so he likely knows the way, and there's also been a lot of doors so correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the girls also lay one on the way there? So he could have snuck around, saved time with that door, used a decoy. I think it's more so that the anime left enough mechanics in the story and this is the second time we've gotten here it just leaves it up to the audience to go he got there because of X&Y no need to dwell on it plus he probably started heading there when he realized his call wasn't picking up properly. I also don't think he can be a decoy since he was able to board the train despite the sword, and would have no reason to really help Ruby and explain things rather than lead her into a trap.
