well, rwby at the start was heavily focused on quick episodes and animated fightscenes instead of long stories. So to go from that to a slow but steady setting up type of pacing, some people might get a bit impatient

Here are some fun train statistics about this episode: It took a total time of 5 minutes and 40 seconds from when they jumped onto the train to being seen off the train - That's a bit over 27% of the episode, excluding the opening and ending. This goes down to 4 minutes if we count from when Ruby slashed the last Nightmare White Fang member to being seen off the train - This would bring it down to a bit over 19%. The train was physically visible on screen for a total of approx~ 2 minutes and 11 seconds, with the longest continuous time being 22 seconds as the train pulls into the station and the robots chant - This doesn't include any shots of the city; characters standing on the train in which the train itself isn't visible; or shots of the unique red train visual on Weiss' monitor.

I kind of feel like Jaune's sword isn't an upgrade or cool mcguffin considering that he can't even walk right with the damn thing strapped to his back and him ditching immediately I think it can narratively make sense if maybe the sword and Jaune's inability to lift it symbolizes that Weiss think Jaune is inept, that he can't even hold much less use his own weapon properly. Or thinking larger maybe Jaune's family is actually important and Weiss knows this but thinks Jaune isn't living up to what she expects of a member of the Arc Clan or something like that

@@johanstenfelt1206 I haven’t watched it, but in my _opinion_ it sounds stupid. Everyone is trying to insert Pyrrha it’s honestly getting annoying. It’s literally what people complain Jaune of being, but I really don’t want to get into that. As for the sword itself, it looks like the sword that symbolizes Vacuo. (Vacuo is the one with the sword right?) Like how Vale has the crown and axes, atlas has the spear in it’s symbol, and Mistral has a weird drawing of the lamp. Their flag(?) has their respective relic. It doesn’t look like the silhouette shown in Salem’s backstory, but it matches the flag where the sword is located. Odds are it is a king of vale reference and you really can’t get any closer then that.

It’s probably a king of vale reference. It looks like the sword on Vacuos flag and unless I’m mistaken, that is where the sword if destruction is located. As to what it’s for? I’m really not sure. I doesn’t match the silhouette in salem’s backstory, but Weiss doesn’t know about the relics so she has to make assumptions, I guess. All she knows is that there is a “fictional” story where someone has a strong sword and it might be based off if someone Jaune is distantly related to.

@@bryana.escaleralopez Fun fact, Japan actually removed all Juane scenes from their version of RWBY. In all of their manga and novels Juane and his team are regulated as side characters only. Juane is also the most common complaint about season 1, as in people felt that his addition was unnecessary. Juane is really popular with diehard RWBY fans however it's been proven time and time again that he's one of the shows weakest links that should have never been included in the first place.

While I feel Jaune gets more hate than he deserves, I feel his presence in this operation was a mistake. Pyrrha would have been better story wise as Weiss feels she sees Pyrrha as someone who can understand her better than most. Jaune is someone she honestly doesn’t see too kindly, especially with all his poor attempts at trying to get a date with her. Don’t get me wrong, he is a good guy and a great friend that I think could go well with Ruby or Weiss down the road, but that’s just the thing. Down. The. Road. Right now? He’s just that good guy to have as a friend and honestly doesn’t have a big impact in Weiss’s life. Sure, he’s the only one the nightmare would turn a blind eye to mostly, but why isn’t at least Pyrrha with him? I feel she at least should have joined them to ensure Jaune’s safety, especially given he is getting close to a Grimm that could cause him to die by getting too close to or getting attacked by? But that’s just me.

Yeah, he doesn’t need to be here in this situation. The hate is just flat out uncalled for. People have _chosen_ to hate him regardless of where and when. As to Pyrrha. Well, she honestly doesn’t need to be here either. For a few reasons. 1. Too many characters 2. She is just as unnecessary as Jaune and I would argue to be an even bigger detriment. As Weiss’s lead singer, she would be noticed much more quickly and probably put in unnecessary danger even if she can fight. 3. Pyrrha has no stakes here. From her point of view she doesn’t _need_ to be there. As cruel as it sounds, she doesn’t care about Weiss. Weiss as of until now has been exactly what she wants to get away from. If it’s possible for her to help then she might offer assistance, but from her perspective there is already so many people trying to help. Weiss’s team, shion, Ozpin, Glynda are already there. That is 6 people constantly getting updated on her situation. Add that to the fact that they aren’t close… well, Pyrrha doesn’t care enough. The only reason I can see her joining is if Jaune is in danger. He is someone who she cares enough about. People keep saying “this is called RWBY, not Jaune and friends” and “Jaune is a side character so he shouldn’t be here” And I’m here thinking… but so is Pyrrha. What exactly makes her ok? I’m 90% sure most people want it for shipping purposes. Not for actual story purposes, but that’s a separate issue entirely. Not everyone of course. I need to make that clear, but a very large majority.

Still going on my original belief, having Pyrrha go in would just lead down a forced narrative that is really unnecessary. The shows main focus should be on RWBY as a team and having Jaune be very disconnected, yet still be connected enough in the story is better than trying to forcefully create a dynamic between Weiss and Pyrrha.

1:50 actually he couldn't pull the sword out of the train anymore. It was stuck, that's why he's using his normal sword now. He couldn't take the new one anymore, he's too weak to pull it out. (It was sorta an excalibur reference btw, Weiss thinks he's not worthy/able to use his weapon so he had another weapon that ended up being stuck and he can't pull it out. Honestly I actually liked this episode personally, I really enjoyed the interactions of pushing Weiss for a positive change in her dream while Shitley and Jacque push her back into the negative mindset of having to "fix" what she did. Also baby Weiss is adorable, I'm happy we finally have baby versions of all the Team Rwby members

I am enjoying Queendom, I aint gunna lie. But it doesnt seem to even follow its own "rules". Like, each of the characters in their dream forms are supposed to be Weiss represented. Blakes is seen as a conspirator, hiding her faunus self but we know she is a faunus so one ear is out. Yang is just Yang because Weiss obviously sees Yang at face value, she gets what she sees with Yang. Ruby is carefree. In a world ruled by Weiss, Ruby is wearing snowboarding gear and carefree. But then you get to JNPR and it's like, here are JNR as themselves but with winter gear and here is Pyrrah as... Volume 4 Weiss. It's not explained, nor does it help with understanding how Weiss sees them. Ren is just... Asain with an Asain hat. Nora got a snow jacket and Jaune ORIGINALLY had snow mittens and hat on. But then Jaune joins the fray and all of a sudden he gets a ridiculously ornate sword... plus his normal sword. There is no indication, even in ACTUAL RWBY that Weiss see's Jaune as this Orante weilding Knight... She sees Jaune as a "silly" and a bumbling fool. it'd make sense if in Queendom some mention of Jaunes lineage to Weiss was known and she also knew about the Arc's in passing as a noble family of royalty who have dedicated themselves to Grimm hunting in a traditional way and thus she assosiates Jaune LOOSELEY with that family with their knightlyhood and ornate decorations... but this is literally just me creating a plausible explanation as to why Weiss would dream Jaunne, as himself... WITH A MASSIVE SWORD.

IceQueendom's story is the plot of an anime movie, this story would be fine if it was 1 hour 30 minutes or 2 hours but as a 12 episode series is too long for it and you can see how they are stretching it. I like the little moments but overall is a drag to watch.

This episode moreso just annoyed me and for a really stupid reason, that being Jaune’s outfit. So before the show premiered we got a description of what their new outfits were called. RBY was lucid dreamers, Weiss was nightmare side, and JNPR was Dream Actor. Basically from these names I deduced we probably wouldn’t have anything meaningful from JNPR and they were to fill out the cast of Weiss’ dream while RBY was doing things until last episode when Jaune was brought in so that aspect was thrown out. And while yes they never said what the names mean, I’m pretty sure you don’t name an outfit what it’s not(like you don’t name jeans a suit if it’s not used that way). Then when Jaune did get brought into the dream he didn’t even show up in a Dream Actor outfit, it took him until the middle of the episode to be given it so now I’m confused to why Jaune was given another outfit. RBY didn’t get new outfits or have their’s change so why does Jaune get 2 outfits in Weiss’ dream. I would have accepted it like “oh, the first one is how Weiss perceives him, but as he goes in he was (somehow) changing Weiss’ perception of him” except that doesn’t make sense because we saw the dream actor outfit with the orange hat and gloves in episode 5. Yeah they’re just minor changes to his base outfit, but they made such a huge deal about it that I can’t just not be annoyed about it. Is there a reason or is Jaune just “sUpEr SpEcIaL” that he has to be given 2 outfits.

1:42 they've already established Blake and Yangs weapon upgrades(?) on the second attempt into the dream in episode 5. There isn't a reason that they would have gotten additional upgrades just cause they went back in especially since Ruby, for example, didnt get any additional upgrades on her second dive; it still fired backwards as is did on the first run. Also Jaune gets an unusable sword on top of his basic sword and shield he already came with. i wouldn't call that an upgrade 🤔

I completely agree that the series feels a bit repetitive. I'm glad that they're not playing the dream out the exact same way, switching it up by saving the train and being transported straight to the center. But even despite these changes, things are getting a bit repetitive. Yang and Rwby DO have weapon upgrades, we've already seen them. We just hadn't seen Juane's yet because he hasn't been in the dream yet. Also... he can't even lift it, so it barely counts as an upgrade as far as this episode is concerned. Although, I can't blame you for forgetting about it, they really don't explore those upgrades as much as they should tbh. You're a bit quick to assume that they have no idea what they're doing with Juane's sword, and other things like that. It got stuck in the top of the train and left there, and they probably wouldn't have shown it off and detailed it so much if it had no purpose in the show. Give them time to make things pay off, the series isn't over just yet. I do agree that Shion telling them NOT to stop the train heist was stupid. Shion should've known that stopping it could've actually helped the girls move forward. Also hard agree that the first two trips to the dream should've been condensed. Really no reason for Ruby to go by herself the first time when that wasn't necessary with Juane's nightmare. Should've had all of RWBY go from the start. I was similarly impressed with the animation. You can tell where the budget went in this series. Too much exposition, agreed. It's one of my biggest pet peaves when anime wastes time showing or telling me things I've already seen or been told before. Like, I've been watching the whole show bruh, I don't need to hear it a third time. Cut out all of that and use that time for character development and world building instead. I'm glad you don't seem to be one of these people, but far too many people are letting their biases and feeling about original RWBY bleed into this show, particularly when it comes to Juane. Many people are trying to act like he shouldn't be there and that it's just Juane "stealing the spotlight" again, but, I'm sorry, he's the only sensible pick from team JNPR to be there, and they clearly have been setting it up all of IQ for him to be there. IQ is not original RWBY, it's not even the same studio. Juane is not stealing the spotlight, he's a natural inclusion. I'll also add he's the only one who has any reason beyond basic human decency to actually care about what happens to Wiess and team RWBY because he's friends with Ruby and has a crush on Weiss.

I think you mean Yang and Blake, and I didn't forget. I just mean a visual upgrade. Making their weapon completely unique compared to how it usually works. Blake's ribbon is just longer and Yang supposedly hits harder. Those are pretty boring "upgrades". Well, I think Pyrrha could've been a potentially more interesting pick, Weiss really looks up to Pyrrha, as we saw in the locker room beforehand. Also, while the animation studio is different, RT's writers are working in tandem with Shaft's writers for the direction of the story.

I do agree they could've done something visually like they did with Juane and even Ruby's weapons. In terms of Weiss' response, whether it was Juane or Pyrrha, both of them are sillies, and therefore would be treated very similarly by Negative Weiss. Sure, Pyrrha would get more respect probably... but Weiss would still just try to lock her up regardless. It actually wouldn't change all that much from Weiss' side of things, which is why I think Jaune is the better pick, because frankly Weiss' fate matters more to Juane than it would to Pyrrha as harsh as that sounds. Theoretically, you get more character development and emotion out of that. Of course, that relies on the writers to actually execute it well, which... well, y'know. The writing hasn't been the most amazing thus far. Plus, if you want my honest opinion, Pyrrha is too smart and good for this scenario. Things would get too easy for the team because she would kind of OP, especially in a world where the entire army and city is practically made of metal. I love the girl, and would've loved to get more from her... but from a story perspective, I understand why they chose Juane. I mean, let's be real, the correct answer would be take both Juane AND Pyrrha, but I guess that's too many characters going into the dream in their minds. I actually didn't know the RT writers were also working substantially with Shaft's writers, that's good to know.

0:22 couldn't agree more. When this is all fully out, I think anyone who watches it in one sitting will have a really difficult time adjusting to the pacing. The start is so incredibly condensed that I think the current pacing will completely disjoint the experience, moreso than it is right now. This episode definitely had better animation, but I noticed that Jaune's outfit just kept changing. You pointed out his train bit but I also noticed his sheathed sword kept changing sides at some point, and it doesn't really make sense for Pyrrah and the others to give him the hat and gloves things for his alt if he had them before (Pyrrah waving scene) - idk how to explain it, it's just very confusing. Curious to know what's going on with dream!Pyrrah though, they focused on her a lot. TLDR: the pacing is frustrating.

I've watched a few other shows produced by studio SHAFT, can say that they mainly handle dialogue and presentation heavy shows pretty well. Which makes me question why they took on a fight-heavy show like this, as well as how the dialogue feels forgettable and unnecessary. At least in Mekakucity Actors, repeated or unnecessary information is told in entertaining ways that make sense for the characters. Though for animation, SHAFT made the questionable decision to animate half of episode 10 with CGI that will burn your eyes.

Idk for me it was the most fun episode of ice quindom so far. Yep, stuff kinda happens for seemingly no reason, but, firstly, its a dream - dreams are chaotic in general, and they really pushed it this episode, which I personally like, and secondly - bruh, it was just FUN. I personally actually REMEMBER what was happening, while i remember nothing from 2 previous episodes. I dont even really care about plot, characters, narrative and stuff like that anymore - my bars for rwby are THAT low. AT LEAST, it was entertaining ( almost all of rwby ice quindom was boring for me, sadly ) One of my personal favourite episodes of IQ so far

I believe that Ice Queendom is about the opposite of early RWBY seasons, heavily story and character focused instead of lots of well animated action. Not a personal problem for me but it can always lead to issues in the longer run with some episodes falling a bit short in comparison. Since this is more of a setting up episode, I didnt really mind it as much as some other people should.

I thought the episode was intriguing where it showed the Sillies and how they represent Wiess' feelings and that they might be repressed. Went they were let out, it became chaotic due to how she didn't have the necessary mentality to deal with them besides repression, but that's just my interpretation.

I get spending extra time to show off the dreamscape, and would be fine if that time was spent showing us more cool things. But as is, it's just kind of the same cityscape over and over and Weiss having repetitive dialogue. Probably a very accurate representation of a dream, but not as fun in execution as in premise.

I felt Jaune was necessary for this part because none of team RWBY had any reason to go into the silly's cage, meaning none would have found that chess piece. Also I believe the giant sword that Jaune had in the beginning represents the weight of leadership that Weiss no doubt believes belongs to Pyrrha and by extension herself. I guess that means Pyrrha would more than likely end up using it later on.......I think. IDK all I know was that I enjoyed the episode

While yes, they could have cut allot out had Ruby saved the train earlier in the series. I understand why she wasn’t allowed to. This was supposed to be a stealth mission, and you wouldn’t want to go messing around with things in peoples heads when you don’t know what will happen. And you also wouldn’t want to risk getting discovered by the nightmare too soon. That being said I did feel like the train ride did drag on. I have no idea why Jaune was there. All he did was just let out everyone in the “silly cage,” and anyone could have done that. Though I do have a theory about how the cages may have in fact kept the nightmare from infecting certain parts of Weiss’s psyche. Over all its not bad, but not much happened here.

I literally cheered when Weiss tried stabbing bat Whitley. The train scene definitely dragged on a bit much, even though I felt like the lead up was, well, sufficient. Some dialogue from Weiss, indicating some internal struggle coming from the result of literally letting her friends in this time around would be nice. Baby Weiss must be protected at all costs. I think they stated in episodes prior that Weiss kept everything in those cages in order to protect them from the nightmare. So when they were released, the "victory" was short lived, as, well, the nightmare seemingly started to warp them. Indicated by the vines on Rin, Nora, and the bots returning. Though, I can see how that can be unclear.. Anyways, maybe something will actually happen next episode based on that cliffhanger? One can hope.

Juane's sword stayed stuck in the train, I don't remember seeing where he got the regular one tho and I can accept ruby still messing up her dream rifle because the way I see it she's been using the real one for (presumably) years by this point, imagine using something so much its just muscle memory... but now its completely flipped over! Anyway I've seen the next episode and I while I like it a lot more than this one, I think this whole arc prolly could've been finished in like 3 episodes, 4 tops

What do you mean? Out of team JNPR, Juane is the only one who has any reason to be there and the only one with any connection with Weiss and team RWBY. He may not have a relationship with Weiss persay, but he does have a crush on her and he's friends with Ruby. That gives him real reasons to care about what happens to team RWBY and Weiss beyond just basic human decency.

My thinking is it seems the writers felt it was mandatory to bring in someone from JNPR to make them relevant, so who do you pick? And to me Juane makes the most sense out of JNPR for that. I don't wanna make Weiss' situation about the people entering the dream, but in this case we have no choice because all of team JNPR are sillies and therefore Weiss would treat them essentially the same, just trying to lock them up with Dopey Klein. So we have to see who out of JNPR has more stakes in the situation, and that would be Juane. I also would disagree that to Weiss, Juane is just an annoyance (at least in Ice Queendom). It's specifically stated in the show that Weiss is locking up the "sillies" because they're precious to her. That includes Juane. I ain't gonna try to claim she's got a thing for him or whatever, but she clearly cares about him and the rest of team JNPR to some level to label them as precious enough to keep safely locked away.

I loved this episode! One of my favorites so far. It reminds me of early RWBY with all of the chaotic things happening. The atmosphere felt different compared to previous episodes, and it seemed the writers cared about what they were doing. I'm noticing that many people aren't catching onto it, and it's sad to see. Either they don't care, or they aren't paying attention.

One is when someone doesn't take the time to learn something when it has factual evidence, or at the very least has a strong indication (95%+), and they deny that information. That showcases their biases and invalidates their "opinion." It's a lie at that point, not an opinion. If you thought I was implying you in the context of my original post, that wasn't what I was trying to convey. I was talking about people, in general, who don't have a keen sense of that stuff. First off, how is it so many are missing the detail that the fancy sword gets stuck on the train? They freaking take a second to show that Jaune can't pull it out. I mean, from the reviews I watched, including this one, only ONE noticed that detail. Everyone else seems to forget about it. Either it's really that forgettable.(which is understandable) Or some people are far too used to verbal exposition, that it's the only thing they notice, and they miss visual details like the sword getting stuck on the train, and Jaune unable to pull it out. Second, there is a rumor that the show's plot was originally meant to just be eight episodes.(not counting the recap) So this might be why it feels stretched out. They kept most of the story meant for just a shorter amount of episodes, but never planned filling up the rest of the time. Which clearly did not help the series at all.

Because it's easy to assume Jaune stopped trying to pull his sword out when he started using it as a handle to hold onto the train while it went through the city. And then could've likely pulled it out once the train had stopped. Also, no one else got a second regular version of their weapons. Why should anyone assume Jaune would also have his normal sword when Ruby doesn't have her normal scythe alongside her backwards one?

I also see this series as heavily flawed. But what it does well is the visual story telling of Weiss' dream world and the symbolisms related to the main series. (sometimes you can even say they use it too much.) So the moment that Jaune is shown with two weapons, and they clearly elaborate on it. You know it has to be some sort of foreshadowing. Whether the pay off of said foreshadowing is satisfying or not is up for debate.

@@thejudgmentalcritter6584 Yes we do. Even Celtic Phoenix pointed it out. Calling it a animation error that Jaune has both swords. You can see both while Jaune was first trying to lift the big sword. And he STILL considers it an animation error when he and Fatman also didn't notice that the big sword was left stuck on the train. And uses his actual sword during the rebellion. Hell, Phoenix/Night goes beyond just notice the two swords. He theorize that maybe the big sword was actually meant for Pyhrra. As he points out that she is the only person in the episode that doesn't fight. Nor has her weapons on her. In fact, all she did was look worried and scared, especially when Jaune gave the Relic to Ruby.

Well, looks like Pyrrha is a part of the missions. And people were telling me she had no reason to be on the mission prior to this episode and there was probably a reason she wasn’t with Jaune and team RWBY on the thing. Did not agree with that comment or then, but I hope that they don’t end up being right with a lack of interesting dialogue. I am keeping my faith based on earlier episodes.

I dont hace problem with repetition, the show has implied the nightmare Grimm has Weiss trapped un a timeloop. Trapped with her abusive family until ir breaks and the devour. Literally no chance. The original mission was save weisses life, not make any positive change that the resolution the girls Came with until last episode and Shion accepeted later.
