It did not get banned in the USA. Ice-T chose to pull it from the CD and gave away free copies instead. Wanted to eliminate the controversy with his label.

This is actually Ice-T's rap/metal band - Body Count. If you wanna hear his crime rhyme days, his break out hit was "6 N the mornin' " - it's early, but ground breaking. I would recommend "Lethal Weapon" , "Midnight" , "O.G. - Original Gangster" , or "Freedom of Speech" and there is a lot more. I saw him on the Iceberg tour in '89, Ice-T is a modern-day philosopher.

I am just now seeing this video in July 2020 so this is a late comment. I am lucky enough to have an original release with the album cover with the original artwork with the "Cop Killer" tattoo across the stomach. As you and others have said, there was lots of controversy, lawsuits, the record label pulled the album and re-released it with out the "Cop killer" tattoo. Ironic how this is 2020 and we still have these same issues.

You didn't know Ice T was a rapper? Damn. He was one of the founding rappers of the West Coast Gangster Rap scene. If you go back and listen to his rap stuff, he's pretty good, and always points out that you need education so you don't become a sucker in the streets. And, also he sampled and used a lot of metal/rock stuff in his rap songs so when he went full out with a metal band, and it was actually good, he took it to a different level. Honestly, I think he did better work with Body Count than his solo rap stuff LOL. Body Count has a new album out in March.

Ahmad, just for fun, you should watch the 1984 movie Breakin’. It’s fun as hell, all about poppin’ and locking and breakdancing! Ice-T is the MC in the club. And the fantastic 1983 documentary Breakin’ n Enterin’, also with Ice-T. Both about the hip hop dance and music scene.

Body Count is so sick. They have a Raining in Blood, Slayer cover, video that's tight. You've been reacting to a few metal/rock videos, if you want to see something really wild check out some Hardcore bands. Jesus Piece set at This Is Hardcore last year was insane. If you want a glimpse into underground heavy music that set would be a good place to start, but all of the videos on Hate5six's KZbin channel are straight fire. "I know your family's grieviiiiiiiiiiiiin'......fk'em" One of the most badass metal lines ever. I know this vid is a year old so this is a postmortem comment but it's so cool to see you enjoying this! As a near 40 year old man, I remember the controversy around this song. It got banned from being put on any album (it was supposed to be on a Batman movie soundtrack!). I recommend two things: 1) Listen to Ice-T's hip-hop albums for fk's sake (one of the OG gangster rappers!) and 2) Listen to the rest of this album (it's self titled, Body Count) just be aware, if you're sensitive to any use of the N-Bomb then skip it. A lot of the views he has one the album are more issues in his own head (like blacks not being welcome in heavy music.....false back then too) but most of it is a sick commentary on the issues back in that day. Metal is cool like that....we can say whatever we want (seriously, anything, no matter how offensive or illegal) and it doesn't get taken out of context by the community (most of the time).

He's been rapping since the early 80's. I remember him in the Breakin' movies with Chris "the Glove" Taylor. Still have most of Ice's stuff on vinyl / vhs. Saw the Rhyme Syndicate tour in '91, (Hijack & Donald D were awesome). Yes I'm old, but it's worth it. ;)

Okay but this a song by the band Body Count. Ice-T is the lead vocalist. They're a heavy metal / thrash band, although everybody blamed rap for this song back then. This is clearly a metal song, but the news kept leading with "is rap music too violent" and then talking about this song. Ice-T isn't just a rapper, he's one of the OG's. You have to check out more of his older stuff. In fact, his song "O.G. Original Gangster" would be a good reaction next.

I find it ironic the one who sang "cop killer" now is more known for portraying a cop on TV. Check out "new jack hustler", it contains one of the greatest lines ever, "all I want is my dope and dead presidents"

I bought this when it came out, so it still had the Cop Killer track on it (metal head, so had long hair, still do), was blasting this out of my gold w/white top 1977 Cutlass Supreme Fastback (very muscle looking car at the time, also with dual exhaust glass packs, so the thing rumbled just sitting there) with the windows down. See cops pulling up next to me at a red light out of the corner of my eye during the 'Fuck The Police!' chant ... well you kinda just turn that waay down and slowly look over. They are both looking at me, I just grinned and shrugged my shoulders and went back to a face front. This was in suburban Minnesota and thankfully I was a white guy (sorry guys). They looked at each other, back at me and just went on their way and yes, I let them get ahead of me. LAPD my not have been so chill regardless of the flesh tone. ;) Still one of my favorite metal bands!

How did they react to this? Well, they tried to cancel him and get him dropped from his label. It was banned from radio and even from some record stores. The politicians, the police, the church, the parents, the grandmothers, etc... none of them liked this song. They all came out in full force against this one. What NWA went through is mild considering what Ice T went through when he released this song.

this is a good opportunity to point out the gross way in which today's pop music inserts cursing here and there just for the sake of it. You hear the most mellow of melodies and all of the sudden you hear fucking this fucking that, bringing the song down to being vulgar or even ridiculous, perhaps under the desperation of "making something new". It was banned bigtime back in '92. President Bush bought it up in a speach for Christ's sake! They all missed the point though. IT WAS A PROTEST SONG 90's style! Unlike the kumbaya protest songs of the 60's, this one had balls and teeth. I remember sitting on my porch with a cam corder recording cops have young Chicano kids with they're faces in the pavement while they searched their cars illegaly. Their crime? DWB driving while brown (it was hella worse for blacks). Btw, police brutality was worse then. Nowadays with social media a few cases a year get blown out of proportion. Rodney Kings beating caught on tape changed all that back then. And CNN running it 24 a day put a much needed spotlight on it. I wore the shit outta my Cop Killer tee back then.🤘🇺🇲🤘
