That is a nice way to tie a deer hair caddis, my guess elk hair would work too for a variation of the Elk Hair caddis, I have question, as to hook size, my guess you are tying this in the larger sizes, 12- to 16? We have an alder fly that is a large chocolate brown caddis with a dark wing that hatches in june, 10 and 12's are the size, I am going to play with this this winter and see If I can come up with a pattern that is durable and floats a long time, the Alder is a late evening hatch so durability and good floating is a must for not having to change flies at near dark- means more hook ups and landed fish!

Awesome technique and fly. Can you do a demo on a snorkel hopper? Tight lines

Great pattern, tried my hand a few times spinning deer hair comes out nice when the hair doesn't fall out on ya :) I just can't see spending that kinda of money of those gadgets when a small needle, to split thread, and a bag clip, or bull dog clip, will do the same thing.

The trick to keeping it in the loop is wax and the clip. When you release the clip none of the hair sticks to it.
