THIS IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG
lyrics:
Through the fiery caverns we sail
Virgil at my side my guide and master
Questing through the nine plains of hell
Infernal wisdom shall fill my soul
Slowly now the days departing
The darkened air releases me
Frightening visions of my journey
Entrance me to limbo I'm not
Free
Abandon all hope who enter here
Enter the gates, Charon awaits
Abandon all hope who enter here
For this is where all things are left behind
Every doubt and every cowardice must die
Souls of rage and anger whipping in despair
The souls that wail on this plain pray for death
Denial is the reason for their suffering
Forever being stung by wasps and demons breath
The blood and tears that fall serve the maggots need
Descention, thrusting to the second plain
Minos judges as his tail twines
Lustful thoughts and greed whip these wretched souls
A hurricane of hate mocks their helpless pleas
Drifting now down deeper, into eternal flames
Awake at the third circle, the cold and filthy rain
Punished for their gluttony, languid for all time
The earth it stinks of corpses, damned for all time
The vicious beast Cerberus, three heads, blooded eyes
Tears his talons through the air, all the sinners cry
Down, be still thy cursed wolf
The master scorns its name
Dive to the next plain
The sullen and the vain
Suffer for greed
The prodigal they bleed
For all eternity
Plutus holds the key
Damned, the wrathful and the vain
Suffer the fifth plain
Cross the river Styx
Heed your crucifix
The mudded corpses cry
Howling to the sky
Reach the other side
Open wide the gate
Enter the sixth circle of barren land and flames
Passing through the gate of dis the furies scream her name
Belching forth in agony invoking her to rise
The spirit's rage consuming us the evil in their cries
Queen of vipers, queen of serpents
Cast their souls to stone
Spread to wealth of Gorgon's power
Medusa's inner soul
We're drawing ever closer to the seventh hell
They violate their neighbors, their god and themselves
We're sailing slowly through the boiling river of blood
Immersed in the depths below souls scream in agony
The twisted beast he laughs, he draws his arrow back
His sights on anyone exposing of their flesh
He impales their hearts with ease
And shrugs their piercing screams
Pity is they'll never die
They'll suffer here eternally
Imagine a place where every horror comes to life
Where every torture is real and time stands still
Eight fiery steps and we're closer to the end
In a cold and timeless grave buried head first in shit
Praying all the while for a quick & painless death
Scratching furiously at scabbed and oozing wounds
Lucifer ... angel of light
Cast below god of ice
Ruling hell unholy trinity
The traitors freeze for all eternity
Lucifer ... betrayer of god
Tormentor ruthless and cold
Judas' screaming here in agony
The traitors freeze for all eternity

Haven’t listened to this version in a long time but I always loved the contrast of Stu to Matt on this. Such an eventful masterpiece of a track and while I personally give the nod to the original version, there are so many little cool subtleties that make this version badass. There’s things missing but things added that give it it’s own identity in the conversation and allow it to breathe a bit on its own. It’s wicked. Sty’s whispered layerings behind key spots and his delivery of the outro are epic.

Important note of context for some of the changes. They do not normally have a keyboardist on tour which was one of the main things keeping them from playing the song on tour and only playing for special occasions like Alive in Athens where they has a keyboardist. They intentionally got rid of some some of the things so they have a version that they don't need a keyboardist for so it could sound mostly right as an option in a standard tour.

Stu's intensity at "Lucifer" is fucking ace but the simple changes like the lack of the Latin chanting throughout most of the song and change to the far-inferior riff after the 2nd and 3rd verses mean the original shall always outshine this one but this is still a treat live, especially for the aforementioned "Lucifer!" Iced Earth though! \m/

Wow, I never heard this. Completely managed to miss it when it happened! It's not perfect, but I love it. Burnt Offerings is one of my favorite Iced Earth albums and I think this version sort of lacks the venom and anger that's almost palpable on the entire original's album. @@Vazcular An important note of context for some of the changes is that due to the original having a heavy amount of Keyboard and not normally having a keyboardist on tours they would almost never play this song live outside of things like Alive in Athens where they planned on having a Keyboardist. So removing most if not all keyboard from the song in this version is an attempt to make a version that they are more prepared to play on a standard tour. That in addition to intruding Stu as being able to fit in generally well with one of the fan favorites were the 2 general reasoning behind putting out this version.

The production sucks here. It's like it was mastered for $8 earbuds with no respect for decent sound systems. Are you even familiar with the original? The remaster with Barlow's vocals sucks, and that might be what you're comparing this to. The remaster has no dynamic range, much like this version. At that point with all the dynamic range gutted it's just your preference for vocalist or subtle tone changes but the original is in a whole other class above the remaster and this version IMO. It's not even a competition. The real release actually had good production quality. Remaster kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJjEh2qXibOphZY Original kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2LJf3xmp7qJf7s There's so much post processing in this version that I don't even know if Stu is any good. All I know is I hate the overall sound of this version, but while the bit at 14:45 here is intense it's also lacking compared to the original. Between the remaster and this version though I think this moment sounds better here vs the shitty remaster so by remaster standards maybe this sounds good but IMO the original wins by a mile every time. This just sounds like it's coming out of shit laptop speakers or something.

Telendar its definitely Stu. there are 3 versions of the song 1 with the original singer, 1 with Barlow which is far better then this one. and one with Stu. I love Stu's voice and all but barlow was born to be the voice of iced earth. as for ripper owen he did a good job on the few albums he was on but he is never a long term vocalist he is a fill in at best. Stu's voice in my opinion fit in best with Into Eternity but dystopia was one of the best albums iced earth has come out with since the departure of Matt Barlow which saddens me but there is a new beast around with Barlow out front, if you enjoy barlows vocals give Ashes of Ares a try if you haven't already.

Joel W Hey thank you for the advice i will check it out. But are you sure for the original singer? This track was released on Burnt Offerings which is the first album with Barlow (if i remember well) because Schaffer thought Adam didn't has the level to sing the new songs so he asked him to take lesson, the singer refused and left. So are you sure it was not a version with Rippers? Even if Matt's version is the best for me ^^

As much as I like this remake, I have to say I probably prefer the original more. 'Cause I'm a old fart like that.

I don't like the change ups they did with the double bass and snare at some parts but other than that, a great remix.

Stu Block sings this so MUCH BETTER on " Live in Ancient Kourion" than on this studio version.

Saw this live last night, it was amazing. Stu is definitely a suitable replacement for Matt. He's very Barlow-esque with his own uniqueness.

Stu's vocals sound a bit.....dramatic I guess would be the term I'm looking for....for me. I really wish, since they weren't able to keep Matt Barlow, I wish they'd been able to get Tim Owens back. Since their "falling out," if you could call it that, happened back in late '07, maybe they could patch things up. As much a fan as I am of the Barlow era, Framing Armageddon is my over all favorite Iced Earth Album.

This is a pretty good effort and I like Stu as a suitable replacement. That said...Barlow OWNS this song. Listen to the original "Burnt Offerings" version. It's noticably darker and feels more like a trip through Hell. Better yet and listen to the "Alive In Athens" version. The hairs on the back of my neck stand every time I hear it. LOVE Iced Earth....LOVE Stu and Dystopia....but sorry...gotta go with "Camp Barlow" on this song. A+ for effort.....B- for the end result.

i dont like stu honestly but he did a good job. i even got to like this version. Dont ask much thouugh alive in athens was a legend of a concert and it will be hard for iced earth to be back to that epic feeling dont misunderstand me all bands have their climax. im going to other topic fjsdklajlk both version are very good. i jus consider that when barlow sings he captures the character feelings i mean he seems to be dante in this song or dracula in dracula even more than stu
