Haven’t listened to this version in a long time but I always loved the contrast of Stu to Matt on this. Such an eventful masterpiece of a track and while I personally give the nod to the original version, there are so many little cool subtleties that make this version badass. There’s things missing but things added that give it it’s own identity in the conversation and allow it to breathe a bit on its own. It’s wicked. Sty’s whispered layerings behind key spots and his delivery of the outro are epic.

Stu's intensity at "Lucifer" is fucking ace but the simple changes like the lack of the Latin chanting throughout most of the song and change to the far-inferior riff after the 2nd and 3rd verses mean the original shall always outshine this one but this is still a treat live, especially for the aforementioned "Lucifer!" Important note of context for some of the changes. They do not normally have a keyboardist on tour which was one of the main things keeping them from playing the song on tour and only playing for special occasions like Alive in Athens where they has a keyboardist. They intentionally got rid of some some of the things so they have a version that they don't need a keyboardist for so it could sound mostly right as an option in a standard tour.

@shangri-la-la-la4 жыл бұрын
@@Vazcular An important note of context for some of the changes is that due to the original having a heavy amount of Keyboard and not normally having a keyboardist on tours they would almost never play this song live outside of things like Alive in Athens where they planned on having a Keyboardist. So removing most if not all keyboard from the song in this version is an attempt to make a version that they are more prepared to play on a standard tour. That in addition to intruding Stu as being able to fit in generally well with one of the fan favorites were the 2 general reasoning behind putting out this version.

@dhyt1496 Жыл бұрын
The production sucks here. It's like it was mastered for $8 earbuds with no respect for decent sound systems. Are you even familiar with the original? The remaster with Barlow's vocals sucks, and that might be what you're comparing this to. The remaster has no dynamic range, much like this version. At that point with all the dynamic range gutted it's just your preference for vocalist or subtle tone changes but the original is in a whole other class above the remaster and this version IMO. It's not even a competition. The real release actually had good production quality. Remaster kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJjEh2qXibOphZY Original kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2LJf3xmp7qJf7s There's so much post processing in this version that I don't even know if Stu is any good. All I know is I hate the overall sound of this version, but while the bit at 14:45 here is intense it's also lacking compared to the original. Between the remaster and this version though I think this moment sounds better here vs the shitty remaster so by remaster standards maybe this sounds good but IMO the original wins by a mile every time. This just sounds like it's coming out of shit laptop speakers or something.

Stu's voice in my opinion fit in best with Into Eternity but dystopia was one of the best albums iced earth has come out with since the departure of Matt Barlow which saddens me but there is a new beast around with Barlow out front, if you enjoy barlows vocals give Ashes of Ares a try if you haven't already.
