Having recently gotten into metal, I have the luxury of not being partial to any particular line up and it's a real adventure to search "Dante's Inferno, Metal" and randomly find this performance. Not a lot of dancing around head banging here, these guys are clearly focused on how well they can play the piece. Matt or Stu? who cares, this band is unbelievably tight, the composition dynamic, and the phrasing, lyrics, vocal style avoid falling into the trap of terrible cliche out of pitch rock opera vibrato/warbling. Really epic metal contemplation of Dante Alighieri's profound Western civilization shaping masterpiece, *Inferno*.

mae fierros I think Iced Earth would say my opinion is important as I bring their music (which has cross appeal) to the attention of friends who are fans of old prog, jazz fusion, and classical literature. This potentially increasing their fan base, concert attendance, and sales. So if myself and friends support this band by attending their gigs and purchasing their releases, my opinion is considerably more important than yours if you are not doing the same lol.

***** I have been doing the same since 96' I was 12 at that age. they will always be in my top 5 best bands, I considered them better than iron maiden, a bit different in each way but in comparison better nonetheless, then again iron maiden are amazing as well.. well am glad you have gotten to enjoy their music.. atm am into Depressive Black Metal, that shit it's crazy. it's been 3 years since I started with that genre am also listening to some Aggro-tech stuff or Dark electro .. my bad. did not wanted to sound like a prick. glad you are enjoying Metal. . \m/

I agree Barlow is a fantastic singer live or studio. He did struggle with some of rippers vocals. Declaration day and ten thousand strong just to name a few but Stu is anther level he sings these songs and in fact all them with ease. This guy is beyond amazing. My favorite singer of all time. This version of of a classic is spine chillingly brilliant.

in my opinion... matt barlow IS the voice of iced earth... BUT stu is pretty good, too and he knows how to entertain the crowd... all in all he's a good replacement!

He is versatile, he does Barlow's baritone well and Owens highs really well, where Barlow couldn't do Owens material for shit, and Owens couldn't do Barlow's material well either. Stu is a fantastic singer with a ton of range. I understand why people were upset when Barlow left, but look at it like this, now we have an extra band in Ashes of Ares.

I know that Matt Barlow will always be the classic singer of Iced Earth, but Stu has done an amazing job these past five years. I enjoy listening to Live In Ancient Kourion album just as much as I enjoy Alive In Athens. They are both MASTERPIECES in my opinion. I love listening to studio albums from Iced Earth, but they sound much better live than studio. I can't wait for their next live album and see them again in person.

This is great. But the performance in Athens 1999 is marvelous lMO. To be more precise Stu can't hold the line with Matt in some parts especially related to the fourth and fifth circles. He sings very well but Matt gives life to the words. Matt throws detailed emotions on the lyrics and revives the Divine Comedy in this masterpiece of music, lyrics, playing, and vocals. Stu sings is as a narrator but Matt sings it as DANTE himself. Both performances are valuable but the one in Athens is more real than this one although Stu does a nice job in the final part and the high pitched scream at the end is amazing. In a nutshell lced Earth rocks even now🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 One of the most technical yet underrated bands in the world...

Why does no one here like Stu? he may not be Barlow, and he may not be perfect, but he's an amazing fit for today's Iced Earth. Dystopia was pretty bad, but Plagues of Babylon makes up for it. It's the their best album since Something Wicked This Way Comes. If Iced Earth is underrated, then Stu is the most underrated vocalist I know.
