I’m more and more impressed with Evion every time. He was quite comfortable against Icee, lots of control, no rushing, building the momentum.

After watching it over and over again, I can see the third round was the tie breaker. Evion had an excellent sense of pacing in both his first and second rounds, and he actually held his ground (very firmly, I might add) against _Icee-_ the actual fucking legend. His dance vocabulary is massive, his incorporation of flow and groove into every single gesture he makes is unreal- and his use of all that through his musicality made his final round much more consistent and complex than Evion's. However, props to Ev, cause that was no small feat whatsoever. I love his style and musicality, he's an absolute joy to watch and an incredibly versatile dancer. To top it off, I just learned today that he actually has asthma, which only makes me respect him all the much more. I'm looking forward to seeing how much more he'll grow, and just how far he'll go~

Apparently of the 300 pre selection in big battles the only 16 can only be Majid, Frankee, criminalz crew members, alex cage, p dog, kyota and the list we all know goes on. I ve seen so many amazing pre selection that never made it. This needs to change. ALSO the judges are usually friends with the big names, like in this battle, fabrice really good friends and partners with Icee. (This had nothing to do with this battle) What did had to do with this battle is, that I don't see what Icee did that he deserved to win, I did not think Icee was particular better than Evion. Why doesn't this work in Evions favor, but always to the older, experienced ''goat'' participant. I like both dancers tho, no hate, just something that always put me to think on battles.
@guy-marktatiefo60155 жыл бұрын
As far as my observation goes, and from what I learned from people that I know who have judged, it sometimes comes down to feeling who may keep showing depth as the competition goes on. Say if unknown dancer has a grade of 91 on his prelim round, and already proven dancer has a grade of 89, but the judge must chose 1. Judge will most likely pick the proven dancer on the assumption that the dancer can pull a round of grade 95-97 at some point in the comp; whereas for the unknown dancer, the judge might feel that that prelim round might have been the dancer's best round overall. Which is why it's also important to get in cyphers at events, a judge might be there and they'll get to know the "unproven" dancer more. There are actually a few events that are moving away from the traditional prelims because of the bias. The prelims are in cypher format where dancers may have 3 rounds to show their worth. Judges would have to be more observant though. I wish that was more common.
@guy-marktatiefo60155 жыл бұрын
@@kurokjo9107 It's not 3 rounds of prelims though. It's simple cyphers, with the dj playing music for 20-30 min straight, and the judges going around looking in cyphers. In that time the participants would take turns in the cyphers as they want, not necessarilly battling each other yet. So dancers can go once or twice if they feel like that would be enough to get them through. Of course that format would still take a lot of time or be super tedious and meticulous to sort out depending on the number of dancers.

Do understand all your point, Im from the netherlands and I have been dancing 15 years ive been to most battles and i ve experienced people Growing with my own eyes like luciano (lil blade, jeems, giorgio and more of the Dutch scene) and I have been going to maaaany mannnnyyy battles, and I appreciate all your perspective, but I don't agree with the new system ya'll talking about! You should get judged for THAT ROUND and not like "well im gonna give this guy a chance, because once I ve seen him dance really good" this sounds cheesy but thats how it sounds when I translate the judging into words how ya'll described it. Some people like cyphers and some people don't. For example, have ya'll ever seen waydi cypher in a battle, or paradox? The times I've seen them, they are focussed (not talking about when they are just with friends) Anyways have a good one! Thanks Dimension for these battles!
@guy-marktatiefo60155 жыл бұрын
@@Taattie I mean, I am not completely against the current system of prelims. It was just an idea to level out the percepted bias of judging in prelims. I've been dancing for 10 years and I have grown to understand that politics will always be involved at events. I currently live in the US but not around big hip hop communities like NY or Philly so whenever I pull up at an event, when time allows it, there always seem to be a "who is that guy" vibe about me. I've had judges admit to me that they didn't pick me because they didn't really know me like that so they picked one of the locals they know based on the perception that that person may do better later in the competion, but admitted that maybe I would have done better after the judge and me got to know each other through the cypher. It's all a game of politics in a way. I understand that some dancers may prefer battling than just cypher, but what you said, to me sounds like you are saying that a dancer can grow and keep moving on without ever doing cyphers. I disagree. Cyphers are part of the culture. I can understand not participating in cyphers at an event to stay focused, keep a certain headspace, and not drain stamina. I've seen dancers like Les Twins and Ice-e get into cyphers, just not mainly at events where they were competing. So I think that even Paradox or Waydi would also get into cyphers times to times, just not at event where they are competing.
@Taattie5 жыл бұрын
Guy-Mark Tatiefo Thankyou for your elaborated story! It just sucks that politics is also involved in battling! I mean everyday it becomes more and more mainstream. Oh well! And about cyphers, obviously they have cyphers with friends or wherever they train together!

P dog the only real one..icee winning again only because he is icee...i know he is a master but so is evion in my eyes ...both real hip hop but evion took this
@iudexCervello5 жыл бұрын
I think it was very close first 2 rounds, slight edge to evion. But round 3, i think evion showed too little. Pdog could have interpreted it as 2-1 evion but fabreezy and charmant could have interpreted it as a composite score from each round. It might not be a legacy decision Like for example if I were to give a grade I think evion had 99, 96, and 88 respectively for each round, purely cause his last round some concepts were missing punchlines and didn't exactly flow together. He stayed connected though and showed a lot of discipline and creativity nonetheless But i think icees rounds were a 97, 94, 91 Icees last round he showed a lot of connection and the overall punchlines of the moves resonated with me, especially midway through the end. But in the end thats just how i interpreted it, despite me thinking evion clearly won 2 rounds, i felt he didn't win overall

Riccardo Sacrilege huh? I’m a massive fan of both. Evion didn’t really dance to his best intensity. He was crazy relaxed. I don’t even think icee pushed. The first two rounds was icee. The third seemed to me like icee knew he won and in turn evion won the final round as he showed more variety. You have to come with more intensity to beat icee. I don’t think this was a top top final. Very very chilled Evion isn’t a master his a dancer with great amazing potential. Chill bro

Really like the vibe of this battle..but Evion was definitely better here. I feel like he took round 1 & 3 pretty comfortably and I know people will disagree but I want to hear something else other than "icee is the master & OG" I actually want to hear based on what was he better than Evion in this battle. The sequence from 6:04 to 6:27 was enough for me to give the round to Evion.. just look at his storytelling,transitions,musicality,flow.. the level is just insane

I'm a big fan of Evion since I saw him on the qualifications of Juste Debout London. But, this time, it was only tied on the first two rounds : on the final round, Evion did less than before and you can see his own deception at the end of his final round. He's not happy about it cause he knows he did better before (around 7:04)

@@daytona-x7b thats just a pointles belief, a conviction that some people still live by. "u gotta go hard in the battle" - why? Why would that be more valuable, than being able to stay calm under pressure, become aware of the atmosfere in the space, the atmosfere of the music, and of ones body, and than consiously manifest all that shit on the dancefloor throught ones body. Im quite sure that can be more (even for people who dont really understand everything that for example Evion does here), than hurrying up, killing the beat and making physicly hard and really complex coordination moves. Dont get me wrong. Icee is defenetly one of the very few best dancers in the world if not THE BEST, and Evion is great but he's not on his level. But still objectivly speaking.... Evion took this one, obviously.

Okay but they must not be paying much attention if they thought icee won. Like I love both dancers but its very obvious evion won. First round & third round evion took that. This isn't about “being an OG or master" Yall always say that when that clearly don't mean shit. Evion has came a long way and this made me respect him even more than before. Its about the musicality shown in these particular rounds. Icee did his thing but it wasn't anything too deserving to win. I've seen better battles from him.

Granted, Evion's dancing is kinda nice to watch but you can see that he's still young and have a long way to go. It's not about Icee being older so he won, naaaaah.
