It’s all over the news and it’s all everyone is talking about here - a new volcano has started erupting on the Reykjanes peninsula. Just like last year, this eruption formed from a fissure in the ground, this time about 1.5km north east of the previous site. Lots of incredible drone footage in this one - why are you reading this? Go watch it!
Enjoy!

This is incredible! So many beautiful images and I wish I could see it in person. Four hours of hiking and all day on the rocks probably would do me in, so thanks for being there and sharing your experience.

You are most certainly welcome. I think they are fixing the trail up so it'll be a bit easier for most hikers. I need to go back soon and document it!

Stunning footages! This must be a unique experience to witness an eruption. I have just left Iceland the day before … coming back in March 2023

It is truly unique - something that has to be seen to be believed. Hopefully it's still erupting for your return next year!

Really enjoyed your coverage. The drone shots were great. Gives a good perspective/overview of the vents and how the flow is progressing. It appears that a large central spatter cone is forming, with a smaller one to camera left. It has been mentioned on other channels that the fissure eruption would probably do this. Will be interesting to see how this whole new eruption plays out.

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm also very interested in keeping my eyes on how this thing forms. I think you are correct with your observation - that central spatter cone will probably be the main one, with that smaller vent on the left forming it's own. I think in a few months it's likely they will join into 1 giant cone - which is similar to what happened with the previous eruption in 2021.

Thanks for putting this out Josh. We didn't bother to visit this place when we were there. Its good to see them through your videos. "To hell with the gas poisoning". YES we feel you 😀. Anything for an amazing shot. Which drone do you use and how the hell is it able to sustain that heat??

Glad you liked it! Come back soon and check it out! I was flying the DJI Air2S - and I just made sure to keep it moving quickly so that it didn't overheat or melt. Some of the locals here have already melted their drones from flying too close to the caldera!

Wow the footage at 8:10 really showcases the waves propagating through the liquid lava and how it seems to be very viscous near the fissure but getting thicker further out!

I was just about to comment about the quality of the video when the "sound of the eruption can be heard now" caption appeared at the very same time as the tacky music. Later the same thing, I could not hear "raindrops on recently cooled lava" for the ghastly music loop. What were you thinking? Rookie mistake. In the afterward in your car with the burger for breakfast you nose looks badly sunburned. Obviously there was no sun. Is that Gelfburn?
Iceland, which volcano will be the next to wake up?
