What a load of rubbish. These effusive eruptions are tiny in comparison to some of the huge eruptions that have happened on Iceland. Just look at the catastrophic Laki eruption in 1783 - 84. It was an 8 month long eruption with about 130 craters opening up along a fissure that was about 15 miles long. 25% of the Icelandic population died in the resulting famine after the eruption as a result of vast quantities of the livestock on the island that died.

The title of the video is incredibly misleading and hyping the risks to both Icelanders and tourists. These eruptions actually are not a very big deal for the nation nor the economy.

This is pretty "click-baity" Iceland"s eruptions in any part of the "divergent tectonic plates" zone (that includes the Reykjanes peninsula) are NOTHING like the "exploding volcanoes" visuals used at the start of this video. And as Iceland was (like Hawaii) created by an underlying mantle hot spot, it's magma/lava is unusually liquid and less likely to "stopper up" volcanic conduits than in, say subduction zones (think Mt St-Helen's) whose strato-volcanos do, on occasion, "explode". The main "catastrophic" (with sudden, fast-moving ejecta) volcanic eruptions are those that happen under glaciers further east and north: these can and have provoked enormous clouds/thick layers of heavy ash. Since the entire island is volcanic in nature, the recent eruptions are more like free tourism advertising: it's not often (on human time scales) that you get to see flowing lava and there's a lot more to Icelandic tourism infrastructure than the Blue Lagoon in any event.

I was in Iceland in August 2024. I certainly wasn't put off visiting because of these small volcanic eruptions that have happened on Reykjanes. I was there when the August eruption started & I wasn't worried at all. I got to see the eruption as i travelled to Keflavik Airport to fly home.

So what? We live with vulcanos. Up to now one person died and Grindavík was several times evacuated. There has up to know little serious damage occurred. The eruptions did not come suddenly, they were predicted. We have lots of sensors around Iceland to check for changes and predict eruptions and heavy earthquakes. I would hardly describe this Vulcano as Iceland´s most dangerous. And Iceland is hardly doomed.

I live in th West Fjords of Iceland, and in 1995 we had a couple of catastrophic avalanches and fatalities. Justifiably, the people in "Sodoma Reykjavik" grilled is for building houses in avalanche-risk areas. These days, I take great joy in turning the tables on them: Why did you build your houses on top of a live volcanic area? All the same, this video is rather crappy in many respects, like using graphics for a subduction zone for a divergen zone place like Iceland. I classify this a pure clickbait.
