3:10 - I've noticed that side spout growing for weeks. It's definitely tapped into the deep-magma plumbing (as opposed to being fed through a tube by the main crater pool), and you can tell this by the explosive outgassing and violent magma ejection. It's not "flowing"; the magma's being being forced out under pressure. Fascinating.
@sirmonkey19853 жыл бұрын
if the opening is at the base of the pool it could do the same thing given that the weight of the magma is about 2700kg per cubic meter. it's unlikely to be a separate fissure opening because it doesn't really follow the path of the fissure(you can see the distinct fissure line that every vent opened on). more than likely the magma found a path through an old lava tube that's under the current pool and that ended up being the path of least resistance instead of opening at the base of the wall like the short lived vent that appeared a some weeks ago and closed up during a quiet period.

Our little boy has sure grown! I've been watching nearly every day since the beginning, but for some reason, this view made me feel as if I am looking at something totally different. I think from this angle, I could clearly see, for the first time, the tremendous amount of lava that has built up. The original viewing hill is now just a little island and the area around the crater looks flattened out now when I remember what it once looked like. Just amazing! Keep up the great work.

I really enjoy your videos of this eruption, the drone images are amazing. I enjoy the music selection normally accompanying these videos, however, this one with only the volcano's sounds is even better. The video is striking with the various flow patterns, a new vent, gasses, and the sound of lava flowing. The only thing missing is how it smells,. Traveller, I appreciate your beautiful videos, keep up the great work.

Okay when you're flying over that crater how high are you up and there is is there any way of telling how hot it is at the level you're at above that crater

@juliusjames55773 жыл бұрын
Good question. I’d like to know too.
@simonmarlan85283 жыл бұрын
I fly the same drone (Mini 2) and it's a little, fairly fragile creature with rather soft props and flexible arms/legs, looking at the scale and the overall view range, I would be guessing that he is up near the usual maximum recommended flight height of around 400' or so. I fly at a similar height around the coastline here where I live and looking at the scale of the landscape, it does look similar in that respect, but without people or manmade objects as a scale reference, that can change how it appears as well. I wouldn't like to risk getting too close to the hot air above this creature as it would seriously affect the flight characteristics and the overall safety of the drone. The mini 2 does have some zoom capabilities with the camera as well, so you can get a bit closer that way, although the quality of the shooting does degrade a little when zoomed.

Thank you for leaving the natural sounds! Love the sound of the lava as much as seeing it. But is it official a new vent? Thought was was just a hole in the wall (developed over many weeks) and pressure from the flow behind makes it spit out as well as flow, looking like a mini-me?
@PoliTechBlog3 жыл бұрын
A hole in a lava tube is known as a "Skylight" not a vent. But the video is nice so we can forgive the misnomer.
@randallmarsh11873 жыл бұрын
No knowledge of volcanoes at all but it seems like all the other lava tubes just flow lava. This one is actually spitting lava out just like the major vent, no where else here is that happening.
@koharumi13 жыл бұрын
There are other vids of it and the lava fountain has become higher than the main.
@xboxbam39793 жыл бұрын
@@randallmarsh1187 It is spitting it out due to the location of the hole. It is right where the lava channel narrows significantly (forming a sort of nozzle there). So there is a ton of pressure occurring right in that area. As such, that pressure is getting relieved in the form of being shot out of the hole in the channel wall. Think of it like when holding a water hose and putting your thumb over the opening, you are thus increasing the pressure (like a nozzle does) and this causes the water to spray out instead of flow out. That is what is basically happening here (except with lava).
