What is a typical Icelandic cousine? What do they really eat? Is it always a rotten shark, sour whale or what not?

When I visited Iceland in 2001 in every tour I went, they served us fish and cooked potatoes everyday. So I thought that was the only food available in Iceland. Thank you for proving me I had a mistaken impression. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks Peter- please create a post on the 5 most popular fish dishes in Iceland. Also when you travel to the US- spend a week on the San Antonio Riverwalk and also in New Orleans. They are great for food.

Thank you Petr. I'm Mexican so I can tell you we eat goat head, cow head I love them both. We love potatoes too! We love sea food but it's a little more spendy. My curiosity about Icelandic food came from a picture but now I think I would love it! Yes I still believe in not wasting any part of an animal. Gracias Amigo

As an Icelander, that second dish... WTF?! Canned green peas, spaghetti, potatoes, rhuharb jam and minced-meat in sauce.... I have never seen such a thing! That is definitely something specific to that particular Grandma's cooking hahaha!

3:56 looks more like smoked lamb than smoked ham. also at 6:24 behind the milk that would be smoked lamb as well. smoked lamb happens to be my favourite food, amazing videos though so far

Hmm, I dont know if in english ham means it’s been made out of a specific animal. I sometimes mess up english still. 😅 But this is what we would call ham, it is made out of lamb meat though, you’re right. And thank you!

Thanks for not being disrespectful, this is pretty accurate lol. So many KZbinrs and bloggers are outright disrespectful towards Iceland, it's people and it's culture. Most videos are people doing fetish tourism, or the ultra cringeworthy "I moved to Iceland, I'm An InSeRt HeRiTaGe ViKiNg NoW!". It's so bizarre, especially in the context of if you did that to literally any other people, there'd be automatic outrage. I can't imagine someone being like "I went to/moved to Japan, so I'm a Mexican/Irish/American etc. Samurai! Look at my kookie pictures where I went out and bought stereotypical cultural clothing, and I'm posing in front of X culture's iconic landmarks/landscapes. People honestly only can get away with that because Iceland's total population is smaller than most small cities, and Icelanders are pretty non-confrontational. It's especially gross when you consider that Iceland lost 1/3 of it's entire population only a couple of generations ago in a refugee crisis after a massive volcanic natural disaster destroyed major areas of farm land and people were starving to death. I'm not going to lie, it's straight up infuriating watching people do these "EW!!! LOOK AT THIS PUTRIFIED SHARK! LOOK AT THIS ROTTEN STINGRAY! HOW GROSS IS IT THAT THESE PEOPLE ACTUALY EAT THIS! OMG THEY'RE EATING BOILED SHEEP'S HEAD! EWWWWW!" Then they proceed to pull faces for their cringeworthy click bait thumbnails and pretend to gag and vomit while eating it in front of Icelandic people. Like.... a huge fuck you, especially when it's usually the grandparents who survived on those things. Especially since shark is literally lethally toxic to eat unless it's putrefied, and finding out how to eat food that will literally kill you unless you do this very specific process to make it safe is a feat of ingenuity that allowed a population to survive. Like, I'm going to call a certain group of people full on out here, bc they're so common on KZbin and are honestly the main offenders. Americans.... unfuck yourselves. You're outrageously hypocritical. You'll full on group attack Icelanders for minor cultural differences while they travel OR WHEN YOU GO TO ICELAND, or just... straight up posting on KZbin, Twitter, IG, TikToc etc. about THEIR OWN CULTURE because it looks similar to someone else's.... yet be perfectly A OK making blogs like this trash which Americans would deemed 110% unacceptable if done to another culture. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bofNdp-dea6XZtk&ab_channel=AllThingsIceland At least when people from the UK or Asia do clickbait fetish tourism, they're not incredibly rude about it and maintain a semi-polite air while mocking aspects of Iceland and it's people for clicks. Seriously though, Hættu að vera dónalegur.

I've always found this logic absurd, as you say, 'eww, rotten stingray', at the same time those same people eat cheese and yoghurt, drink beer and wine, and probably quite enjoy worcestershire sauce or ham, all of which are the exact same type of product.

I’m American and always feel a need to apologize for those stereotypical Americans. We’re definitely not all like that. When I traveled to Iceland this year, I was very excited to try real Icelandic food and meet locals. We also stayed at a guesthouse on someone’s farm and it was amazing. I love Iceland and would love to spend more time there in the future.

Uh that’s not true. Research shows the healthiest people on the planet eat meat sparingly, with plenty of seasonal vegetables and local grain products- Mediterranean ethos has been shown to be healthiest time and time again Most important is just to eat seasonally/locally to maximize nutrients. Scandinavian people follow this mantra too. They eat a lot of fish and lean ethical red meats. Local dairy, seasonal berries, and lots of unrefined fermented “brown bread.” That’s why they’re healthy. He even stated that home meals are more potato/rice forward… as opposed to meat centric restaurant meals.
